Has anyone on here ever known a feller from Accrington who was actually called Stanley? If so, what were the consequences if any regarding banter etc. I am not trying to offend anyone, I am just wondering. I spent all my working life in the South of the country so the issue never cropped up. I used to know a girl called Chelsea and we used to call her Man United.

I genuinely knew a Michael Hunt, I'm really can't believe how naive his parents were. He always referred to himself as Michael, never Mike or Mick.

always remember when the current tranmere manager was a player for blackpool. he got sent off in a game where my ex was with me. no one knew why he got sent off but she chirrep up saying because he had a stupid name. do not think parents thing deeply when they name kids especially when names make up odd initials. Knew a guy with the initials KGB and he said he must have heard it all.

There was a Danish goalkeeper in the 1960's (I think he played for Odense) called Bent Koch (I kid you not).

Lol.

There was a time when Fanny was a perfectly acceptable name for female. Isn't strange how the language develops? I gather that fanny started to become a rude word in the 1920's so either your client was born before then or her parents were ignorant of the evolving meaning. I dont think anyone would use the word as a name these days.

Remember a few years back at the Father in laws funeral reception, one of my old instructors was there a lovely bloke who called me ‘Cornwell’ , but never questioned it at 17, you don’t !!
Anyway, I thought here’s my opportunity to solve the problem, he laughed and said it was because of a boy seaman called Cornwell stood by his gun aged 16 at Jutland when all his gun crew were killed and he was fatally wounded,, being awarded the VC.
When I asked him to explain he said because the rest of the buggers with you were off at any opportunity, but if you were told you had to stand by something you obeyed to the letter…and pointed out one of the other instructors called you the ‘Good German’ because you always ‘obeyed orders!’….

I’ve just had three days away at Otterburn traing with a lovely blonde call Eva.
Bit of dog actually, ….. a Labrador.
She was a gun dog, but couldn’t take Ratboy.
On the first night for the evening meal, her owner was asking where we were from and told him Hartlepool, said he loved our beaches and smiling said his neighbour has a Hartlepool connection. Turned out it was Chris Turner.

Aw come on. With a name like that, you'd have to change your name if you were running a business.

Very funny though less so for poor Richard. I guess he was lucky he was called Bate rather than Bates.

Some people just loooooove these double barrelled names nowadays. Once the preserve of the upper class, I suspect if they use it, it makes them feel a bit posh too. It doesn’t.

Summat to do with the rise of feminism, I suspect. Some women don't see why they should take their husbands name when they get married so both names are used. Also, some couples choose not to get married at all and bestow both names onto the child. All very modern.

 I could never have a double barrelled surname with our respective surnames as it would be open to ‘manipulation
Mind you, if your double barrelled name is Heckingbottom-Winterbottom….. and your aspiring footballer son is called Alexander ….. it ain’t gonna work.
