According to the Sunday Sun is under investigation by the FA for gambling on matches yet still is expected to be named in the World Cup squad. As per usual one rule for the premier league and another for smaller clubs. Yet the FA will not allow Chris Maguire to be registered with Pools.

Yes, one player is being investigated but still allowed to play (premiership) and the other is suspended while under investigation (non-Premiership).

Please explain…

The Ivan Toney investigation has been going on for seven months….. how long does it take to sort these things out, it’s ridiculous.

Must be the amount of evidence or another factor. Maguire isn't suspended from playing by the FA or EFL.

Lincoln suspended him then released him. Pools offered him a contract that wasn't standard and the EFL and PFA rejected it.

Neither player actually banned from playing, Brentford are obviously backing their player - something Lincoln didn't do, and something Pools weren't confident doing, innocent until proven guilty?

Looks like clubs making a judgement on the Maguire case and not liking what they see.

We both know the longer the FA take, The more thorough it makes them look, hence more important.

The bloke is coming to the end of career, FFS

or a case toney is a far more important player to brentford than maguire was to lincoln.

Maybe so, but it’s still seven months and he’s still waiting. It appears the FA now take a now take a Puritanical stance on even the smallest of gambling, yet like a constipated duck, can’t decide what to do.

know for a fact that even 30 years back players were not allowed to even do the pools. something i doubt any of us who did them classed that as gambling. not a gambler or a lover of it but unless there is a big gambling situation across the league with loads of players involved i just cannot see how single players can affect games if there own club or league is not involved. longer this goes on it does show the fa in a good light with both players being found guilty on facebook and twitter which could make it harder to defend themselves.

Do the same gambeling rules apply to Employees of the FA (All Levels), Because the FA really can influence games in many ways.

Notice Toney not in the World cup squad was this Southgate's choice or was he told not to pick him by the FA while their investigation is ongoing. Will be interesting to see if he is called up due to any injuries.

I suspect the majority of players nowadays are far more interested in things other than gambling….it all seems so dated and old fashioned now. Bingo for men.

yes with a bigger interest in the stocks and shares market with their own personal financial advisor at hand. the says when managers attempted to find out if their players were drinkers, gamblers or womanisers are long gone as is ryan giggs.

Be interesting to know the sums involved and the nature of the bets. For example if the players has no interest or connections that clash with his role at Bournemouth, I don’t see a problem.

I reckon that is the true reason he is not in the world cup squad Southgate was told by the FA not to pick him as it appears a bit suspicious that after not being picked the 7 months long investigation has come to an end and charges have been made against him. Does anyone know jf Maguire is still training with Pools?

there isn,t really but its easier to have a blanket ban from there point of view. nev.nderstand why you need to put a bet on yourself or using your name. if it was me i,d get a relative or mate to do it for me even if i had to give him a small percentage of the winnings. am i a devious bastard or are they as thick as some think they are.

One thing is certain, Ivan Toney's case will be resolved one way or another a sight quicker than Chris Maguire's. Maguire should sue the FA for restraint of trade.
