The arguments in pre-season about whether Hartley was any good or not and the signings were any good or not were only ever going to be resolved when the season started. Not buying the idea that any Poolie is an 'expert' on Scottish football. I think most of us had an attitude of wait and see. The big worry was the massive churn of players.

Don't think any of us seriously imagined that either Molyneux or Odusina was going to have a change of heart about staying at Pools. That says more about Pools 'play off' budget than any idle speculation about how much Hastie and Murray are being paid. Added to that, Lee's big signing Omar Bogle was allowed to leave - surely a sign that Hartley and Trotter needed to create more elbow room for the signings they wanted to make.

As it turned out, the Scottish signings that Hartley wanted have been almost as big a disappointment as the man himself. Trotter's signings are a mixed bag at best.

Raj is going to have to dig a lot deeper in January than he was prepared to do in the summer to give Pools any chance of staying up - and have a manager that he believes in to make the right transfer calls.

lets get real. we can only sign who are actually available for a start. we are not going to sign players for a 6 figure fee to get us out of the shit even if they,d come anyway. its down to the best loanees we can bring in or players out of favour by newly appointed managers. if it was the case of bringing a couple in then it would be fine. at the moment there are 5 or 6 who should never wear the shirt again and i doubt that number of improvements in a month is a bit too much of an ask.

Never mentioned 6 figure fees. Good loan signings cost money too. Carlisle signed 9 players and released 6 in January 2022. It was enough to secure their League 2 place.

where those 6 released only contracted till january anyway as clubs just cannot release players anyway. there is nothing to stop anyone just seeing out their contract and refusing any offer to leave. even if they accepted some money to leave it would cost the club a good bit just to rid em all. then there are replacements. having a manager who may or maynot be with us in january how can plans be made to bring players in. you cannot wait till new years day to start looking for lads and going through the long drawn out signing that seems the norm nowadays. planning should be happening now like summer signings are planned before the season is out.

Would not surprise me one bit that Curle already has a list of players.

Wonder if Curle was given the full breakdown on things like contracts before he took up the ‘interim’ post, to see what his options are, because if not, I’d be heading out of town at speed on the horse I rode in on.

You should know 'signed' and 'released' is shorthand for comings and goings. Since you ask Carlisle shipped 4 players out on loan (something that will surely be happening this January with Scottish players returning north of the border), terminated 1 contract and 1 short-term loan (a certain Brad Young) returned to his parent club. They signed 4 players on 18 month deals, another till the end of the season (and gave him a new contract in the summer) and got 4 in on loan.

Agree that planning for the loan window needs to start early. If Keith Curle is still with us after the 2 home games this week and we've amassed some points it should be him. If not, he needs to go.
