Cancelled forever. The local Council have decided to meet their carbon neutral targets by getting rid of events like this.
Apparently they’re replacing it on Roker front with a triathlon event…..Oh dear.
I assume the Sunderland’s Yoghurt knitting Councillors won’t be flying anywhere on holiday….?
Talk about Woke mania….. tokenism like this won’t make a jot of difference to anything.
Can we have it down here.

It was here originally in the late 70’s but the Coincil in there usual lackadaisical style lost it to Sunderland….combined it with the Raft Race when it was outside the Kirkham.
I remember it very well because I had my eldest son on my shoulders and USAF A10 flew low over from the north giving everyone a right surprise and my son pulling my bloody hair out in shock.

For a long time the Sunderland Airshow organisers claimed that the event had upwards of half a million spectators. I think they were counting everyone in the North East who looked up when they heard a plane...

Thing is, I have to ask the question how gormless are these Councillors … people who like air displays go to watch air displays, replacing it with an athletics event probably won’t appeal to those who enjoy the sound effects of full afterburner on in a turn.
A bit like Hartlepool Council kicking Pools out of the Vic and telling us not to worry as they’re showing League Maypole dancing, Premiership clog dancing and Extreme Morris Dancing…we’d be over the feckin moon.

Tbh I would support the ending of all fireworks displays and public sale of them.

no i,d keep the public ones but ban the sales of them to the public. its not just bonfire night they are let off but every single occasion people see fit to let a few off. yes, and bonfire night is the 5th of november and not 5 days before and after that date.

air displays are not my thing but thats not the point. i am totally sick of others telling me what i should and should not do and think in todays world. carbon neutral, if i hear those words anymore the boot will go through the box. still got to meet face to face anyone whose life depends on it or have any interest whatsoever.

What pisses me off is we have to take the dog out in the car for four hours as he goes mad in the house…… My next door neighbour must spend a fortune on fireworks yet his missus says he’s out there on his own as even the kids weren’t interested. sctatchinghead

Thinking about it, how can Sunderland Councillors in all their woke glory ban an airshow that actually takes place in the North Sea…? Their authority ends at the low water mark.

Who's going to pay for it then? Maybe if someone asked the Russian air force nicely they could put on a show over the North Sea... After all, Vlad's not woke.

The last despot dictator who tried to put on a show over our waters got a smacked arse and sent to bed with no supper.
I'll pay to see Putin try it.
He can send his ships as well and get a lesson in sea faring aggression.

He’s far too busy putting on a shit airshow over Ukraine.
He could send the Russian Red Arrows….The Dead Arrows.

been there and spent a fortune on fuel with a dog like that. you can get something from the vets to calm em down but giving medication for a full week is not on. bonfore night should be that, 5th november only and a criminal offence for any let off on another date. mind you nothing will happen as a number of these fireworks are made abroad so we do not want other countries economy to suffer do we.

Do you know Snowy I have been wondering the same. I am beginning to suspect that there is a highly organised group of moles, whistle blowers and fifth columnists at work here.
Momentum have infiltrated the BBC and the Civil Service is my conspiracy theory.
They have been too quiet of late for my liking. That's how Marxists work. They are even trying to control social media and constantly stirring up hatred and the smelly stuff. They are told what to post, who to target and post in groups for the best effect.

or has this been going on for years. 50 years back about 3 came up from london to work on the buses. caused utter chaos in the union for the year they stayed before just all departing overnight. every other week we had a walk out or strike for one reason or another that they orchestred. they knew how to talk and had an answer for everyone.

Surely it’s a complete coincidence that all these unions in big organisations have decided to come out and naively add to the general feeling of chaos., we all know they are totally impartial in their political views.

There was me thinking that the unions are striking because their members' real earnings have fallen far behind rises in the cost of living in recent years. I realise that idiotic 'globalist' conspiracy theories are swirling around in Far Right circles but there's no mystery about the astonishing incompetence of Liz Truss and her cronies during their 45 days in power.

Fun fact: Arsenal won every game they played (men's and women's teams) while Truss was Prime Minister. maybe Stan Kroenke is behind it all???

Why are the strikes only by people in what I’d class as ‘safe’ jobs, or imagined safe jobs.
The people who could really do with a rise at work don’t seem to have a voice. There’s a lot of people at the bottom of the jobs market struggling who don’t have a voice.
This belief that anyone querying this is portrayed as a ‘Far right, eye bulging loons’ is getting a bit tired.

Nurses are currently being balloted and may be be the next group to take strike action, I guess you can say their jobs are 'safe' as people are leaving the profession as fast as new ones can be trained or recruited from overseas.

And "I wonder just who’s organising this Kamikaze embrace of political suicide" sounds like the language of conspiracy theory to me.

I was referring to the Conservative Party, no one else. Tell me I’m wrong about it applying to the Tories.

is that NHS nurses only and not those who jumped ship to the private sector.

Tories are deluding themselves with stab-in-the-back theory stuff when a series of bad choices is the simple explanation for their predicament. Boris Johnson's own character flaws are the reason he blew the chance to serve a full term on the back of an 80 seat majority. Casting Sunak as the pantomime villain led to the members choosing gormless Liz Truss. To be fair, plenty of their MPs are being brutally honest about their own party's failings.

Because they are concerned about losing their parliamentary seat and have no idea how to turn things round.
Truss collapsed peoples pension funds and investments also people had to pull out of house purchases because of the rise internet rates. This happened over a period of 3 weeks I can’t see a recovery before the next election either.
