Does anyone actually know the reason for there being about 300 seats not being used? I’ve heard problems with the roof and problems with the concrete but if either are true, why wasn’t it fixed? We’re missing out on about 600 fans in these next two games which is about £12,000 plus over £1,000 in food and drink. There’ll be more games which could have sold out too. This isn’t a dig at Raj by the way, it’s more just wanting to know what the issue is and why it can’t be fixed?

porter.."Does anyone actually know the reason for there being about 300 seats not being used?"

...no idea...damage to seats from last year?...but needs levelling imo and a complete rebuild....reckon concreting is pre war...seating must be coming up 40 years old and was past it when ron manager was last there ffs...

"It is understood to relate to the fact a section of seats are not currently in use. It has not been commented on whether the damage to some seats at last season's fixture is connected to the lower allocation."

I agree the whole structure is past it's sell by date. Raising it to the ground and rebuilding that end probably isn't the only solution but it is the most attractive suggestion in my opinion. There was rumour once that Darlo's East stand was going to be rebuilt there, with a capacity of 4000 but that seems to have died the death.

possibly because no club in our league would fill it and be a bigger waste of money than losing a few hundred on away fans sell outs. Unless the vic or league rules change we cannot move em to the town end before the season starts as we are obliged to offer some seated accomodation for away fans. the whole thing is a bloody mess.

Thanks everyone. I don’t think it would be from the Carlisle fans as they only smashed a few. May be some health and safety issue though like you say from the old concrete. The seats were put in back in the early 90s. My first season ticket was for that stand but it’s meant to be a crap view for fans. I was only a kid so can’t remember the view being good or bad really.

Heard stories about how full that stand was for the Leeds game in the 70s was it?

Its about 15 years since that stand was demolished. Its probably long since gone now. Mind you I'm sure it was 3500 capacity and the length of the pitch so not sure how they intended to make it 4k and the width of a pitch without major rejigging. They may have realised it would cost less to build a new one instead.
I'm sure Elvis C (Phil Dunn) had seen what they had planned, although I may be wrong there.

Wasn’t it rumoured to be stored in its component part at a warehouse near Tees Dock?

It was allegedly put into storage, somewhere south of the Tees in the Wilton area was mentioned. I believe the capacity included a standing terrace at the bottom of the stand with seating above but how they were going to do it and it's height I can't remember. Obviously the terrace part would hold more than if it was all seats.
At the time IOR thought they were going to own the ground and when it became clear that they weren't their enthusiasm for ground improvement waned.
That's about as much as I remember.
Like you say it might be a heap of rotting junk now, or even scrapped.

I remember doing a drawing of the proposed stand for the Rink End in the Monkey Biz…I over egged the cake a bit with the Executive Helcopter Landing Pad.. Conference Centre etc, etc, etc.
I did another one when it was installed at Feethams in the Monkey Biz, but showed it’s capacity as 20 seats wide, and 200 rows high….. very narrow with the top level in the clouds.

It's in there, right next to the tracks for the Tees Valley Metro.
