That’s quite a normal reaction, it hit me when they announced it. I was told I never reacted ever to relative’s deaths, but why this particular death should effect me in this way baffles me, not embarrassed about it though.

but is it normal or what actually is normal though i suppose.never been subjected to a young person dying amongst friends and family. all our lot seem to live to a good old age. just aint for me getting worked up by the death of a 96 year old woman who i have never met or has had nothing that shaped my life whatsoever. like everything in life its each to their own. not knocking anyone who did get upset but hope i,ll not get knocked for my point of view.

It must be normal, otherwise it would be abnormal, which it is not.
People react on different ways, simple as that.

going from this to a question for any ex forces personell on here. do you look at the death differently from those who have not served. could be just a generaisation of the two i do know on my small estate but one has erected a flag pole and bought the union flag to fly at half mast and the others wife has gone down to london to show her respects because her husband is too ill to do so.

Maybe it’s just a reaction akin to watching, for example, The Champ, or the Green Mile. Both had the tendency to reach for the hankies.

Mr A, I’ve never cried for anyone at a funeral, yet the dogs I’ve had to ‘put to sleep’ have had me in tears every time…… explain.

So right Snowy, I had a chihuahua from 1970 until 1985 when she was put to sleep. Just being in there when the Vet injected her, I burst out crying and the staff let me out the back door to save going through the waiting room.

I drove up the road to a layby and must have sat in there for well over an hour before I could drive home.

At the time I lived in Norfolk and every day I would take her over to a disused American Airfield (452nd Bomb Group flying B17 Flying Fortress) where one of the runways was still intact and gave a very pleasant walk, off the lead for about 2/3 miles.

I've never had another dog since.

Mr C get one. I’d had a long gap without a dog and the wife said I needed one when I retired …… I wasn’t happy and said no thanks, too tying, holidays etc. Eventually I gave in but stipulated a rescue dog. Went through to the Dog’s Trust and fell in love with an emaciated, raggy terrier, the staff assured me he was a character. How right they were.
He blossomed and is my constant companion…Ratboy actually did change my life, get yourself over and give it a try, you won’t regret it.

thats always been my advice to people whose dog has just died. get another that suits you both and they are all different even if you go on the same walks as you did with your other one. always remember they want you possibly more than you want them. so many shithouse owners about and it will help to address the balance if you get one.

i,m just the same, but in my case i have never been to a funeral where the person who has died was under 88. could be different if you buried a young child though.

A child yes obviously and thank God I was never in that position, but I suppose it depends on the person, even my parents never raised a tear from me or anyone else for that matter, which has always baffled some.

Is it because they never answer back? :) Only kidding, I grew up with dogs and they're very good companions with a lot of endearing qualities.

It's cat lovers that mystify me. Don't need a so-called pet that can only be bothered with me when it craves attention or food - got our lass for that.

cats have an advantage on the other half as they never come out with i/we need a new this or that and have far less headaches and always fail the fitness test one week in a month.

Well I think she has had the send off she deserves.
Thank you Ma'am. Rest In Peace.

It had to be epic and measured at the same time. Indeed it was.

Yes agree and maybe will never be repeated as things will inevitably change. RIP

The circumstances which resulted in her being Queen so young and the sheer magnitude of change in the world during her lengthy reign are unlikely to be repeated. What a human being.

We all sat watching it in silence, which is unusual in our house, but it was breathtaking in it’s presentation.
We had one hiccup when a large fly entered the room and Ratboy had 30 second rampage till he killed it by leaping on it….peace returned and stayed.
The side table will glue.

Just a thought, taking Ratboy to the beach after tea down the headland I passed ASDA, the only supermarket to re-open at 5 pm, the car park was rammed.
Can someone please explain to me why people need to rush down to get anything which wouldn’t have waited till tomorrow, are some people just so addicted to shopping?
Also, why re-open when you’ve been closed all day of all days, bet the staff were over the moon.

its the same after they are closed on christmas day and easter sunday. think for some the supermarket is the highlight of the week instead of somewhere we practise the supermarket dash to get to hell out of the place as quickly as possible. when its bad at the vic you can always think, well i could be walking round a supermarket or even worse a diy store.
