It isn't, and the timing has a direct bearing on a lot of things, including football:

The passing of the Queen would start a period of mourning across the United Kingdom, as detailed in a document called “Operation London Bridge”.

As part of that plan, which is set out for the nine days following the monarch’s death, sports fixtures would be postponed.

Various other events would also be cancelled, while the Stock Exchange would close, and Parliament would hastily reconvene if not in session.

Flags across the country would be put to half mast, and TV and radio stations would broadcast alternative schedules."

I thought this was a wind up but it’s true.

She has been and still is an outstanding Queen for our country and will be a hard act to follow.

Agree Mr Infidel (and Mr Snowy) about it being a little unsettling.

She's just been a permanent fixture all my life.

I'm really not fussed about the Royal family but this is odd I must admit.

Any chance of locking this at the top till the funeral, a bit disrespectful having the Queen in between assorted chuntering factions.

Mr I …I was privileged to see that horse once when I was driving up Seaton Lane one morning in the early 70’s…I did a double take.

There was a rumour that the council gave residents on Seaton Lane money to buy new net curtains.

I've always had the thought that after a hard day meeting people and shaking hands she would head back to Buckingham Palace and spend the evening with Philip drinking hot chocolate, relaxing watching TV, especially East Enders.

RIP Ma'am, the likes we will never see again.

With no disrespect to the Queen how long are we going to be subjected to the constant re runs of the Queens life, for sure it’s going to put people of the royals.

Well don’t watch it then, no one’s holding you down and making you, what did you expect when she died, Scooby Doo cartoons all the time? Get your arse off the chair and stop watching the telly, or switch over to other channel’s. There’s plenty of alternatives.
Looks like momentous moments in history just pass you by….. I bet your ancestors found the war a bit of an inconvenience.

you both make good points but surely there should be a limit of the amount of coverage on any issue. its not as if anyone is letting history pass them by either. thing is we have not seen the end yet and i,m sure there is a limit what the most avid royalist can actually soak up. if we got hours of pools on the box plus in my case car, bus and steam train documentaries i,d be looking for an alternative by now.

I believe that to be true. At the time I was working for HBC Street Lighting and we had to fasten all of the banners to street lights along the route - working on any lamp along Seaton Lane was a challenge - the kids used to rip the covers off, smash the connection box with bricks and then, using the live wires, throw empty coke cans into the base of the lamp and - boom - the can would get fired out like a mortar - once saw an Alsatian piss onto the exposed wires and what happened next still haunts me. Anyway, in the days before HRH drove past it was a constant battle to keep the banners in place and to keep the general area tidy - and, yes, the residents did get new curtains and I believe that many moved their horses upstairs (for a better view?).

I’m not watching it, but there’s those who want to take it all in for a brief period of time. There are loads of alternatives, so I don’t see a problem.

this alternatives thing is all well and good but do you think those broadcasting the royal stuff are thinking, well its fine they have an alternative to watch something else. i feel the same thing would have happened if we lived in the days of only having two channels to watch, no computers, smart phones or even dvd to view.

But that was the past, but I bet most ordinary people then would have wanted to see the coverage, different times. My nana got her first TV specially for the coronation, plus the neighbours!
There are alternatives though,…… we rarely watch regular programmes on the TV, but the wife’s nailed to watching it and you don’t prod the crocodile with a stick.
I’ve got my own bunker in the garden, so I’m loving it.

whilst i.m fine in this respect but imagine there will be thousands of blokes in your predicament. it will be the same with the funeral and certainly the next coronation. for some reason women love these type of things especially any wedding where blokes have little interest and possibly the same on their own. could not wait for all mine to be over to get onto far more interesting things wedding nights can do. even took the dog on a good walk on the second to break up the monotony and it was certainly not just round the block either.

Me and the wife were in Canterbury on Friday and signed the book of condolence at the Cathedral. Sobering experience queueing up in silence apart from the chatter of children, a noise The Queen would have encouraged.

We had passes from a previous visit but I would imagine they would, because after signing the book you had access to the rest of the place. There is quite a lot of history attached to that building, that's for sure. English heritage members get an automatic 20% discount. There is an ongoing facelift going on which is impressive. I wouldn't like their leccy bill !!!!!

The Church of England use a lot of their finances (multi billions) investing in of many things stocks & shares. Shell are a prominent investment so perhaps they get a discount on their leccy bill.

Maybe we’ve went full circle and like in medieval times when the knights bought their place in Heaven. The Church of England has maybe offered a discount pass to Heaven for the top bods at Shell. You never know

Those protesters today should be thankful that the Police arrested them rather than they be dealt with by the crowd.

I do fear that some sections of fans from certain teams may not go along entirely with the tributes to the Queen.

Did I hear someone chanting ‘climate change’….?

She who must be obeyed called me in to see the walk up the Royal Mile…. Thought it best to comply as her KGB training doesn’t allow her to take prisoners,
I walked in and my world fell apart catastrophically when I realised I was unwrapping a Cornetto, major mistake…it was a bit frosty after that as she kept giving those piercing looks for being disrespectful.
Wives eh? Can’t live with them, ……that’s it.

As soon as i heard the family were going to Balmoral after the announcement on her health, i thought the end was near.
We were at the David Essex concert on the 8th when word came through of her death.
RIP

I watched a documentary on Balmoral. What a beautiful place that is. No wonder it was the place she retreated to every summer. If she had a choice on where to end her days I am sure Balmoral would be somewhere near the top. Fifty thousand acres of pure magic.

You are right about Balmoral Mr D. it is stunning around that area but I think it was the favourite place for the Queen Mum. Sandringham was really where the Queen was at home particularly when she could walk along Holkham beach with the corgis.

The only downside I hear is that Andrew is going to look after the corgis!

I did hear a report that it may be gifted to the nation.
That would be a terrific gesture by the King if true and a change in direction of the monarchy.

I was watching the changing of the guard and the line of people walking past and didn't realise I had tears running down my face till the missus pointed it out, the most emotional moment I have experienced in a long while.

That’s quite a normal reaction, it hit me when they announced it. I was told I never reacted ever to relative’s deaths, but why this particular death should effect me in this way baffles me, not embarrassed about it though.

but is it normal or what actually is normal though i suppose.never been subjected to a young person dying amongst friends and family. all our lot seem to live to a good old age. just aint for me getting worked up by the death of a 96 year old woman who i have never met or has had nothing that shaped my life whatsoever. like everything in life its each to their own. not knocking anyone who did get upset but hope i,ll not get knocked for my point of view.
