wouldn't surprise me to scrape a 1-0, hopefully Hartley doesnt then use that as an excuse to put the reserves n against Colchester

It is mentioned on twitter etc but crucially the latest news item on the website "Matchday Information: Harrogate Town" doesn't even mention it!

A staggering and inexcusable oversight.

I am coming down from Northumberland for the game, but if I hadn't read the Bunker just now before heading home for a quick change of clothes, I would have arrived close to half time.

It will be a poor crowd anyway but at least do the basics to get people to the ground at the right time!

anyone able to help with what formation we are playing?
No one up front it would seem, and a back 5 with 2 additional holding midfielders in Niang and Featherstone,

So our only 3 non defensive outfield players are Crawford, Mcdonald and Ndjoli. !
I can only assume Umerah is out injured for Saturday which is why Hamilton is being saved but to be honest am at the stage where nothing would surprise me

Cant complain at 2-0
Not sure how many changes Harrogate made but they look very poor.
One thing i will say is we are benefiting from it being a less competetive game--we are weak all over the pitch physically that gest exposed more in league games.
If we only sign 1 player before Thursday I hope its an experienced centre back in the style of when we signed Mirfin--defence needs someone physical to organize them as I don't see a leader/organizer in the current 3 center backs

warming to Mcdonald !

Niang different class in midfield. Ndjoli, Killip and McDonald also looking bright.

The game's not over, especially if Armstrong comes on, but canny good so far.

Niang done well--he is raw, but one of the few players we have with any physical presence
I would take Sterry off, already been booked and no value keeping him on.

Killip 8 - MOM saved everything put at him and distribution was good
Sterry 6 - playing within himself but showed class when he needed to--no idea why Hartley made him play the full game though
Lacey 5 - Unconvincing again
Murry 4 Must be playing with an injury to be that immobile--new centre half before Thursday please
Menase 6-best of the 3 centre backs--cant be easy playing next to the chuckle brothers
Patterson 6 - Did well looks promising going fwd, brain fart almost cost us a goal 1st half
Feathrstone 6- steady but not v mobile
Crawford 6-showed good touches but weak as piss and gets pushed off ball too easy
Niang 7--excellent--a little raw but great mobility, and one of the few scottish signings who looks phyiscally ready for this level-did himself credit all game
Mcdonald--7 instrumental in both goals--needs to be told to release the ball earlier
Ndoji--7 --tooks his tap ins well and held ball up--upgrade on Wastie
Hamilton/Grey N/A didnt do much

It'll be interesting to see how Pools go at Colchester. Get a result down there and it might be fairer to say we are a bang average lower half of the table side than a real basket case.

After tonight's performance Hartley has surely got to stick with 5 at the back and Niang in one of the midfield slots.

ToTheHartlepool 2-0. MOM Ben Killip. Thank you Luke Armstrong for not spoiling it. What's happening here? Is it another cup run and no league wins for first 11 games? As I have said on here earlier "We hate Colchester U because they beat us 6-2." One Paul Bielby from Manure scored twice that day then did f all. Let's hope Saturday changes thing in the league. UTP.

Maybe Sterry had to play the full game because Hartley has concluded that Tumilty is neither use nor ornament.

After that performance I would be surprised if Hartley left anyone out except possibly Crawford, who never made an impact on the game. Surely he will stick with the same formation as well, I couldn’t understand him switching to a back four away to the league leaders.

Niang, Menayese, Featherstone and Killip stood out, the latter making half a dozen good saves, one of them top class. Ndjoli played well also, in the right place at the right time for his goals, and worked hard. More of the same in the league please.

agree with most of that but thought crawford grew into the game after being annonymous for the first 30 odd minutes. The only problem nowadays is that players were once as good as there last game. Now it seems with managers that they are good at their reputation. Would love to see ndjoli starting with umerah if they can get some sort of understanding together. at least last night gave us some hope to believe again.

Watching that when he went to the corner after scoring the second goal it was noticeable police inside the ground. I’m sure that’s a cost to the club, when Pools took a huge following to York it was only much cheaper stewards in the ground. Is this just an easy shift jolly for the police or were they expecting the Betty’s Massive to kick off?

Two goals scored, a win and a clean sheet ( thanks to Killip) is not to be sneezed at. We need a fair bit more of that but it's a start. The manager said he is expecting two or three more players in, I hope one of them is a no nonsense centre half.
Armstrong still looks the business and I'm glad he didn't start the game and I think Killip will be glad as well.
Let's see what Saturday brings.

From what i know the club pay for the Police inside the ground, no idea who decides how many. I don’t ever recall the Police being involved in any altercation at Pools ?

1500 is pretty standard for this comp at this stage, we had 1,572 how the home game against Morecambe last year in it.

Even the third round tie against Bolton only pulled in 2,529.

Ferguson For Patterson
Cooke (if fit) for Crawford
Sylla as emergency CB for Murray

Hopefully we have signed a new experienced CB by then (not some kid)

I do think people are getting carried away with performance last night (though there has been little to cheer for) those games are less competitive than league games so interested how we do physically on Saturday.

I think a centre back is essential to replace Murray who maybe needs more time to adapt or just isn’t good enough.
I also think Crawford should keep his place as while he didn’t have the best game he stretches play which I don’t think you get from Cooke.

I agree this doesn’t mean we’re a good team all of a sudden but it’s a positive performance. Colchester are very beatable and I think this is going to be a good test to see if we’ve turned a corner/just aren’t as bad as we seem.
