Referee Sunny Singh Gill will become the first British South Asian to referee an EFL fixture since his dad, Jarnail Singh, over a decade ago.

He will take charge of the Sky Bet League Two game between Northampton Town and Hartlepool United on Saturday and is the most senior referee of British South Asian heritage in the country.

I dont understand why this is news unless you happen to be a Sikh. Football fans dont care who refs their games as long as they do a decent job. Dont we just look at the team sheet to see who is playing for and against and the ref's name is totally irrelevant unless you happen to be a certain type of anorak. I presume this non story is being disseminated by those who think race is the be all and end all. It really is not. The content of a man's character is more important than the colour of his skin. I believe Martin Luther King said words to this effect. As long as Sunny Singh Gill referees the game properly, no one will care about his ethnicity.

cobblers 2 pools 0. we will eventually score but not today. i,ll blame the weather for this one. seeing as its been mentioned about the ref i hope he is a traditional sikh and wears a bun bun on his head as they,d do and not one of the new breed of stepford refs who seem to use the same hairdresser.

Take a draw.. Any draw, would like us to score to 'get off the
mark'...however, it's going to be scorching down there today, so that will have a bearing on the game at some point. UTP.

It was Northampton Town 5 Pools 3 (Newton 2) on 17 September 1977. There is no Bob Newton today and who is going to score? Northampton Town 1 Pools 0 6,309 Pools 390.

The dog and duck probobly has a bit more upfront than us. About time we won at Northampton, just can't see it being today.

Northants win 2-0 against the dog and duck reserves.

The interesting thing is that Wellingborough Town FC (close to Northampton) have a ground called the DOG & DUCK.

Played a FA Cup game there many moons ago.

Score today I'll keep in my head because I seem to be cr*p forecasting anything so soon into the season.

So if he has s poor game you will care about his ethnicity?

That is not what was meant as well you know. Maybe take a rest from race grifting? If he has a poor game the ref gets criticized for his refereeing regardless of any other factors and if he has a good game he barely warrants a mention regardless. Have I managed to pass the the woke test or is there something I need to do prove I am not a member of the EDL?

2-1 now. We have had lions share of possession but only the one shot on goal. at the last count they have had 8 shots on goal and 4 wide of target. If we keep letting teams have that number of shots it seems inevitable we will concede more than we score. Ah well that's my moan over and done with.

Yep, flapper Killip gifts Northampton their 2nd goal. We need a keeper who can deal with crosses into the box.

All over with 2-1 loss which I guess is not too bad a result compared to the Walsall hammering. We had 56% possession but they had 17 attempts on goal and 10 of them were accurate. What can we do about this? Play 5 in midfield or something? Wondering what others think.

I hope so. I hope we never go back to that league, not looking good though is it? Whether it's 3 games or 15 we do not look capable of winning football matches.

I expect Wes McDonald will come in for Hastie on Tuesday night. Hopefully Umerah and McDonald will play off each other and develop a good understanding - that hasn't really been happening with Umerah and Hastie.

It's a real worry that Joe Grey is missing a bunch of games again. He looked sharp in pre-season but it's starting to feel that he's injured as often as not. When he's at least available for the bench the options up front won't look so threadbare.

Must know a little bit more about football than you tbh Snowy. That’s all. We will turn a corner, we just have to hope it’s turned before it’s too late.

I said ‘let the football do the talking’ upon my concerns re a totally new team and manager. You called it negativity. A threadbare squad are learning how to play with each other now, and today we weren’t even bad. We’ve started as slow as you’d expect if you knew a jot about the game, old boy.

The Hpool public can smell a rat.
Plenty or warnings from them who know the score!!

That's the thing 600 to 1000 first game could smell a rat yet lads that go game in game out can't see it in front of their noses. Until raj allows Hartley to bring in football league quality only one place we are going. The alarm bells will ring eventually with some .

So far, so predictable. yawn2 yawn2
You appear to be suffering from halitosis of the ‘intellect’. (I use the word ‘intellect’ in it’s very loosest sense….squirrel?).

The poor results aint down to me
Billy or Bigdog etc.
We just tell it how it says on the tin.
Its so obvious the truth hurts you old chap.
Carry on with your fantasy world of Sing n Stello are the best thing that ever happened to Pools.
I like Squirells regularly see them in the park.
They probably know more about football than Grandad Snowflake.
UTP.

Your egotism is astonishing,…… ‘you must know more than me’? Obviously I am in the presence of delusional greatness with such an attitude as yours running rampant in your head.
You display the narcissistic qualities of someone who criticises and just neeeeds to be agreed with, yet can slip effortlessly into top backer of the team If things pick up, without even blushing at the hypocrisy.
Don’t worry, I’ll be here to keep pricking your conscience…if you ever had one.
