Not exactly the goal scorer we’re looking for but hopefully plenty of assists.

I don't want to be negative I really don't but I'm becoming so with every signing. I was expecting us to sign some really decent loanees to supplement the crop of let's say emerging talent and players who seemingly have a lot to prove that their last 2 clubs have been wrong in letting them go. Added to that no team has successfully signed a swathe of unproven Scottish players. I was not an instant fan of nwc either but the atmosphere they brought helped. There are always positives and negatives but Raj must be becoming concerned about his investment even at this early stage.

With Pools finances they are not in a position to throw money for transfer fees, what does a decent proven player cost nowadays ? We have to take what’s on offer and hope they come good, Rhys Oates was poor on his first spell but he was one of the reasons we got out of the N.L. Loans, it’s difficult to attract players to the N.E. we have had most of them from the Boro with little or no success. I can never understand why Sunderland or Newcastle don’t lend Pools players, is there a stigmatism about playing at Pools.

can never understand this difficulty in attracting players to the north east. i might be biased but if i was a kid at villa and they wanted to loan me out i,d much prefer the NE or barrow and carlisle for that matter than being sent anywhere in london. think the other NE clubs especially newcastle may send us more if we were closer to them in the leagues. all we,d get at the moment are possibly the poorer ones that others are not interested in.

Players who live in the Midlands, Manchester and the London areas are spoilt for choice when it comes to go out on loan. They can probably still live at home surrounded by the bright lights and commute. to a lot of players Hartlepool is a small village on the coast only famous for Andy Capp and monkey hanging.

whilst that maybe true to a point why did newcastle want Cass playing on loan away from the area. didn,t stop us getting Burey either last season. clubs will be happy to let players go anywhere as long as they know they,ll be looked after and get a chance if their form shows well in training. pools have always given a chance to players even the poor ones. some loanee kids are lucky to make the bench elsewhere.

Cass was at a couple of our games late in last season after he got injured. I had a chat with him one time and he told me (seriously) that it was his decision to go to Port Vale cos he thought it was time he got away from his mam!!!

Sorry lads, I know it's an article of faith with a lot of Poolies that we struggle to sign players from outside the area but it's just not true.

Last season Pools had 10 lads on loan at different times in the season. Only 2 (Isaac Fletcher and Joe White) were from North-East clubs and only 3 grew up in the North-East. The season before in the NL, we had another 10 lads on loan - 2 from North-East clubs (Lewis Cass and Brad Jones) and 4 grew up in the North-East.

Over those two seasons we had as many lads on loan (2 apiece) from Blackburn, Huddersfield, Rotherham and Stoke as we did from the Boro and Newcastle. If you look at the current first-team squad there's only 5 players out of the 23 with any North-East connections before they signed for Pools.

and thats possibly higher than at most other clubs in our league. it aint the old days where every club was full of local lads with youngsters and those finishing their careers back on home turf. think fans prefer local lads as they think they may try harder and give evidence from the past of those who put shifts in but ignore those who were not good enough.

In the Chris Turner days there was only one player from the Hartlepool area, I think it was Evan Horwood, I don’t remember any in the Neale Cooper days either.

Forgot about him, he was also there when Turner was there, I remember he scored a goal from an impossible angle against Shrewsbury in the dying minutes, he was only 17 years old. Turner ran along the line jumping up and down, it was in the days when the dugouts were on the Millhouse Stand area.
Neale Cooper shipped him out to Boston United initially and that appeared to sort him out, came back a revitalised player.

If the 3rd goal had been in the Premier League it would be repeated again and again even his second goal was decent, he was under pressure from a couple of their defenders.
Paul Arnison was another local lad, I lived near him in Seaton, used to chat with him now and again, emigrated to Australia eventually.

I was in the seats in the Mill House stand near Boydy.........its the best goal I have ever seen live. He not only beat the other players but also the puddle.
