Wow there is a lot of energy on this board. Oh yeah.

Anyways after last week's disappointing result I'll be happy if we could keep a clean sheet. So a point would do, 3 would be a bonus.

I'm at work. Anyone got a first half summary/report?

Pretty tedious to be honest, no goal threat at all and god knows what happened to the pressing game.

Hopefully better second half

Can we have a laugh as Sticky were 1 up with 5 to go and lost 2-1.

Were these lot saying they were going to walk this League?

Played 2 - POINTS NIL

Maybe Dizzy Dave is lulling us all into a sense of false security….or maybe his gold leaf is starting to come adrift.

We were better in the second half, much better to be fair. They were the better side first half and Killip kept us in it a few times, but we could and should have won it second half. Our centre halves looked more composed and Cooke imposed himself on the game and was MoM for me.

Some promising signs and hopefully we will keep improving.

Thought the first half was fairly drab and even although they had the best couple of chances. Second half I thought we played really well and upped the tempo, just lacking that finishing touch or bit of luck. Back 3 looked pretty comfortable, Menayese and Lacey in particular were impressive. Murray was poor on the ball in the first half but picked up a lot in second bringing the ball forward on numerous occasions. Thought Nieng looked lost most the game, couple of decent challenges but didn't look comfortable on the ball at all, certainly not as good as Crawford or Shelton on that showing but he's young and hopefully will improve. Cooke was cracking in the second half linking play and getting into good areas, he looks a player. Umerah battled well and got nothing off the ref, looked a bit isolated against 3 defenders and nobody was really helping him out, especially first half. Hastie I like the look of, put everything he had into it and looked knackered when he came off.

All in all a definite improvement from last week and the formation worked better but we are definitely needing more goal threat.

Yep agree with all of that, far more detailed than my half time report but I had lost the will to live.

I have never been Killip’s biggest fan but I thought he was really good today and even came out for crosses, made some excellent catches and punches. He has clearly been working on this so hope the progress continues.

Josh Umerah got through a ton of work and his hold up play was excellent. He needs more support from midfield though. A 5-3-2 with Hastie out wide, 2 defensive midfielders and only Cooke in a more advanced role was a bit overfamiliar from the set up last season, as was the slow build up from the back.

That said, the second half was much better all round and Pools made the two best chances of the game. Wimbledon had the best player on the pitch (their No.10) but their side as a whole was no better than Pools.

The new seats in the Millhouse were - an experience. There are no seat numbers as yet and according to the stewards the row letters painted on the aisles for yonks no longer correspond to reality, so the message was 'sit where you like.' Or for anyone who arrived late, sit where you can!

A couple of season ticket holders near me had had emails from the club advising them that their reserved seats 'no longer exist.' Dunno what that's about as I didn't get the email, but it seems like there are fewer new seats in the stand than there were garden gnome stools that they replaced. No doubt it will all get sorted out in due course.

Couldn't figure out why Hartley didn't try Jack Hamilton up top with Umerah for , say 10 or 15 minutes. Think the game was there to be won if we'd showed a bit more desire. Also would have liked to see a bit more spark from Hastie. More to come from him, I'm sure.
Liked the look of the lad from Walsall & thought Kilip was nice & solid throughout.

Disappointing crowd for first game of the season.

Haven’t seen the Town End that empty for a while and the away following wasn’t bad.

I guess Walsall put some off and the cost of leccy etc won’t help.

Hopefully the form will pick up as I don’t want to see a return to sub 4,000 crowds.

Plus there will be a few on holiday. Walsall certainly put me off as its the first home game i,ve missed for a few years. A case of finding reasons not to trail up instead of reasons to do so.

Carnival parade as well, plus if they read some of the doom and gloom posts on the message boards it would be a waste of time turning up.

Starting the season early didn't help. Last week in July and the first week in August is the most popular holiday fortnight in the year.
I don't know how popular the Carnival is these days but it used to affect gates if the weather was decent.
I wouldn't read too much into the attendance yesterday.

it was the same saturfay as the crawley one was last season with the carnival on. think being back in the league boosted the attendance more than it would have been.

Thought no23 Rollin Menayese was good in the second half. Overall we got better as the game went on.
Killip had a very good game. The club have persevered with him through some tough times and i am delighted for the lad and coaches who have backed him.

Quite a few reasons for that, a lot of the nwc been banned by the club, kids not allowed to go without adults, that alone probobly took 500 off. Losing heavily to Walsall and quite a few aren't fooled by yet another poor transfer period.

Saw an old pro in the queue for yesterday's game Mick Harford. Now there's an old fashioned centre forward. Spoke with him and wished him all the best. Said we could have done with him up front lol. Did anyone else see him...
