Just had a form PA302 from HMRC on which they believe I owe them some money.

Other than this is completely wrong and they, in fact, owe me money, I was surprised that on this form it says that a copy of my personal tax affairs had been sent to MORTGAGESMITHS LTD.

I googled these people and found they are (supposedly) tax consultants.

I've never had any dealings with them and from some of the reviews, they appear to be "dodgy".

I've spoken with HMRC this morning and they say it must have been your wife gave permission for us to forward your information to MORTGAGESMITHS LTD. I told him this was completely untrue and for him to send me written proof this happened. Of course they cannot.

This is just a warning in case anyone else falls into this trap and from the reviews, HMRC have sent these people cheques, of which they have taken some 40%+ commission and a further admin charge of £120+ leaving one chap from expecting a refund of £250 only getting about £30!

It’s a shell company ran by a single Indian bloke in Bradford. Only been going a couple of years and will shut up shop in an instant. Sounds like a Police matter to me.
