I'm watching the game tonight on the Sunderland streaming service for £7.50. It doesn't appear to be available on Pools iFollow - unless I'm being thick.

Just hope the Mackem commentators remember to give name checks to the Pools players who are on the pitch - I only know about half a dozen of them by sight!

Half time observation -

Featherstone, Cooke and Crawford cannot start in a midfield 3. Far far too slow.

Joe Grey only Poolie bright spark.

I see he's kept Featherstone and Crawford on for the second half although he's made loads of changes.

Questioning - aside from fitness & defensive shape - what we're gaining from this friendly.

We've not had a shot on target. We're barely touching the ball & are so so far off Sunderland's quality. Jack Diamond has had us on toast all game.

Hopefully things get a bit more exciting in the final part of the game.

Featherstone and slow midfield in the same sentence.
That's a shock.

Finished 1-1. Umerah's backheel was on target and nearly crept in!

Joe Grey was my MoM - played the full 90 minutes, looks stronger than last season and was lively at the end.
Hartley will have to find a place for Sena in the defence - he's the only one with any real pace.
I like the look of Tumilty at right back, which is just as well as Sterry has missed the entire pre-season with his injury.
Letheren is no threat to Ben Killip's no.1 spot in goal - need a decent loan signing to put any real pressure on.

Cheers for this. I was following on official Twitter and while I got the impression it was all Sunderland it is not like either of our keepers had a lot to do. The Mackems hit the post and scored with the pen but their other chances were hit wide.

Killip scooped a couple of crosses cum shots from out under the crossbar that would have gone in if he'd not got to them.

Midfield very pedestrian, Featherstone in particular never got a look in, Cooke getting caught in possesion all the time, needs sorting before Saturday or we'll get overran. Team looks nowhere near ready for the new season.

Interesting takes on the game. Shows football is all about opinions.

Seen ‘encouraging and positive attacking display’ from a Poolie on Twitter.

I saw the opposite unfortunately, with a lot to improve on.

I also thought Ndjoli, Cooke, Murray and Hamilton looked so far off it. The more advanced role he’s got Crawford playing for me doesn’t suit him. We need a Jack Diamond style player in that role.

Tumilty is a more than capable replacement for Sterry though.

I might agree we are no where near ready for the season if we were playing in the Championship, but we obviously aren't - we are league two.

Our midfield was very disappointing without Sena in there, we really struggled without him.

Second half we were so much better and created a couple of good chances, even without Hastie. It was clear the players that came on had that physical edge, desire to win the ball and pace.

Be interesting how he addresses the midfield three (hopefully by starting Sena there!) as the rest of the team is an improvement on last season without doubt.

aint bothered really. its a pre season game that pools managed a draw in anyway.and not at the back of some sub standard performances previously that gave an impression of the manager being clueless who and where to play lads. next saturday is the big one where it really matters.

Thought we looked okay but got battered by Sunderland's reserves ultimately, as been said Saturday is where it counts

I imagine Hartley will start on Saturday with a side that's very much about the players he's had the most time to work with. 10 games into the season, the side might look quite a bit different.

New lads have been coming in all the time and it sounds like there's a few more on the way. Ndjoli only arrived at the back end of last week. I think he's one who needs a bit more time before people start passing judgement on him. For me there were encouraging signs - he looks like a scrapper who is difficult to knock off the ball.

Let’s get real, on these occasions when we play Sunderland in friendlies, the Mackems turn out in numbers, we always get beat and everyone goes home happy.
Why some people are examining a gnat’s fart over this result is beyond me.

Oh sorry, I forgot, analysing a pre-season friendly is forbidden under ‘Snowy’s Bunker Dictatorship Rules’. Noted for next time pal.

If I actually had have been, no one would have lived to tell the tale.
