Yep. Scored 21 goals for the youth team in a season in 2010-11 but wasn't offered a pro contract, according to Wikipedia.

He's 29 now, had a good scoring record for Orient the season before last (19 League goals) but only got 4 in 22 at Mansfield last season with Rhys Oates one of the players keeping him out of the team. Pools could do worse.

I used to live just around the corner from Mark in Seaton & quite often chatted to his dad, Barry, while waiting for the Footy Mail to be delivered to Mick Sweeney's.
He told me that he had spoken to Vince Barker at the end of the season where Mark had played a few games in the first team & mentioned that, as Mark was on YTS terms, ( about £25 A week in those days ), how about Vince slipping him a little bit extra
by way of a thank you for his efforts. As I recall, he was "gifted" £40. About a fiver for every first team game he'd played. Wonder why he never sugned thst contract, eh ?!

I think I must have lived close to you as well. I have a vague memory of speaking to Mark's dad while having a drink with my dad years ago (might have been the Marine or Seaton Club?) Let's just say Venus senior was not an advocate of HUFC and from what you have said, I dont blame him. Such a shame we allowed such a talented youngster to slip through our fingers. But all water under the bridge now. I am glad despite everything Mark had successful career in the upper echelons of pro footy.

Snowy I think you are being a bit harsh on Barker. Similar to Raj he kept the club going in hard times. I don’t think he was in the same financial bracket as Raj but did put money into the club and Vince was a true Hartlepool fan. I can’t remember but who took over from Vince?

As regards barker i used to hate him until around 15 yrs back when i just happened to be staying at the same complex in tenerife as bob newton. We talked about the old times at pools and i mentioned barker in a negative way but bob said the fans were misled by a personal vendetta against barker by a counsellor and the his mate the hartlepool mail editor. He reckons barker almost bankrupt his family farm businesses cas be spent all the avalible cash on his pools dream. The family had a massive fall out over the way he squanded it all on pools but eventually got out the mess due to land sales n land owed. He laughed when he told me the bloke was loved by all at pools but the fans fed shit.

They appeared after he bought Pools, they did minor re surfacing jobs in the town, I think they went into liquidation after Smarts son Johnathan took charge of the company.

It is not a first team squad, several could not travel as they had, presumably, not been vaccinated. Lots of academy players gone and have acquitted themselves well.
As I said before Banks is very highly thought of by Dougie Freedman, who is proving to be very good at spotting a talent. He will be an excellent loan signing for you. If I hear anything from this end will let you know
