Media hype.
In Hartlepool we will have sea mist and two of the early morning Seaton swimmers will get hypothermia.

I’m down there most mornings and frankly they scare me, with their massive bulky, flower pot men hats and waddling gait, even rat boy winces.
As for the heat….. l may get away with a T-shirt and light fleece…suppose trousers as well to avoid a fine and conditional discharge…..it’ll be hell in London, it always is, they keep telling us.

don,t they love to frighten those who are always shit scared. why cannot they just forecast high temperatures or when its windy saying that instead of naming the wind as storm arsehole or something. wonder if the extra heat will persuade the masked raiders that are still about to ditch the muzzle till they can breath. will a new strain of monkey covid crop up due to the high temperatures.

The Red Alert fuss is a great excuse for fit people of working age to have a couple of days off and sun themselves in the park, garden or beer garden.

If the very elderly folk who are most at risk take note, that's no bad thing. My old mum got into a terrible state with dehydration during another heatwave. By the time I called round after work she was delirious and I had to send for an ambulance.

the old folk who are at risk will mostly have the sense to stay in and do the right thing in the heat. most if not all do not need a warning al it anyway without being told and have witnessed it in their lives before. It will be club 18 to 30 again that will be going around pink and half naked spending their time getting pissed under a big umbrella. Wonder how many fires there will be due to the barbecue lot with their burnt on the outside and raw in the middle sausages having a good old jolly.

You never here people complaining when they go holiday abroad about the sun, now in the London area they are being recommended not to go to go work on Monday and Tuesday.I bet the ones who don’t will be in the back garden, in a park, on a beach or a pub garden.
I have been fortunate to work, holiday and live in countries where there is a hot climate, in general the locals hate the sun and cover up to avoid it while only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the middays sun.
People who live in hot climates put clothes on to keep the sun out, they don’t like to be tanned as they could be classed as poor farm workers, in fact here women ‘bleach’ their skin too look white.
Currently where I am in Asia there is an English fella probably late fifties who every day BBQs himself, he is burnt to a frizzle with wrinkly skin, nice fella though.

know now the asian women will be out covered up as usual and never showing signs of heat. you can always spot women who cannot keep out of the sun once they reach late middle age. they have a skin that resembles a pair of worn football boots that have been patched to the inch of there lives. thank goodness i have retired as i get tanned without sitting in the sun and it saves me from being called a pakki bastard again by some irate passenger.

I can imagine it will be even worse for the young uns who thought it smart to sunbathe and get tattoos, once the skin stretches etc the tattoos will be be mere blur.

Reminded me in 1995 booked a holiday through teletext (is this still going?) for 2 weeks in Crete at short notice. This included me (46), the wife (42), my 3 children 14, 8 & 6 and my parents 74 & 75. I later went down the local travel agents to see if they had a brochure with the apartments in the brochure.

I quickly found the Disney apartments in Malia but it was exclusive (apparently) for Club 18 - 30 so you can imagine my surprise that of my party of 7 NOT 1 filled the age criteria.

Anyway we had a great holiday (there was no bar there which helped) and the young uns were really good helping my parents with the various stairs around the building.

Been to Crete 3 times, all in Malia, once in the main drag & twice in the old town area. Hired a car every time as this is the largest of the Greek Islands. Enjoyed the 3 holidays there and took in a lot of more remote areas, eating more traditional Greek food.
Have also been to Kos, Rhodes twice, Aegina, Corfu twice and probably my favourite and less well known is Spetses where have been 3 times. From some of these islands have been able to visit half a dozen or more of smaller islands, just for the day though.
Not had a bad holiday in any of these Islands but if you go to Crete and don't want the young party scene I would suggest looking at Hersonissus. Enjoy whatever you choose.

This is what gets me, thousands of people will be flocking to much warmer places on holiday this summer and we’re panicking over two day of heat. Crazy.

Missed Zante off the list where the sites are mainly offshore with that classic boat laying in a bay on a sandy beach

Obviously you know there are 2 airports - Chania & Heraklion, although most holiday flights go into Heraklion.

Another destination in the Med is dear old Malta with the adjacent islands of Gozo & Comino which is another worthwhile trip.

I forgot to say I did 2 weeks in Corfu in Mid August, followed by 2 weeks in Spetses a month later.

Landed in Corfu looking like Boris and left Spetses looking like Rishi!

The power of the sun is quite amazing.

Pleasantly cool at Seaton Canoe.
Cycling home it was much warmer even a mile inland.
With global warming the house prices should go through the roof.

out at 6am. seems everyone had the same idea as the local moor was full of panters with their dogs acting the same. surprised me the number of runners out as well, but they must have been semi pro ones as they hadn,t the big water bottle with them.

Trains are going to have to go slower, when I was at school long time ago they said in the science railway tracks were built with an expansion gap and bolted together that’s what made the clikity clikity sound. For some reason as far as I know rail tracks welded with no joints so there is no tolerance when they get hot ?

The bloke on the radio for network rail said our tracks are designed for a ‘temperate climate’…really?
So if trains in countries with wide variations in temperature can manage, surely we should work to their tolerances and we’re covered. Simple….. or have I missed something….?

When I was at school they had steam trains and where I lived trolley buses.

Such memories

Took the kids to Sandtoft Trolleybuses Museum once and they loved it. Asked why they stopped using them.

Nice sea breeze in Hartlepool.
I went to a local pub last night and at around 6.30pm the wind was blasting up the car park to the beer garden............bliss!
Gods country!

I agree probably different grades of steel and Network Rail went for the cheaper option.
Why do reporters not ask these questions, train tracks all over Asia and never hear trains have to go slower or even cancelled.

I've been on trains in India and they only have 2 speeds - dead slow and dead slow in reverse
