Should be entertaining - Higgy has always had a Scouser's gift of the gab.

I'm playing catch-up with the podcasts, but the Tommy Widdrington episode was enlightening in respect of having a database of players (& managers)

Great podcast and a decent insight but can anyone enlighten me as to what the craic is with these comments about Micky’s fridge on Twitter? Like, is it supposed to be funny?

Yes, the Hodcroft one was absolutely fascinating.

I think it was along the lines of Pools being part of IOR and registered in the Virgin Islands and Pools were a tax write off.
I don’t Raj Singh does that with Pools.

It was more the discussions about the play off final, the letter about the penalty, the EFL chairman saying he was looking forward to having the Wendies in the championship, hiring Neil Cooper, working with Coops and running the club that I found fascinating.

Interesting listen. Two sides to every story.

Can't get past his praise/ excuses for Coxall and slagging off Raj. Makes the whole thing sound unbelievable.
It seems that football shouldn't be run that way means 'it should be a job for as long as you want it despite performance '.
Wasn't he done for drunk driving around then?
He did have to contend with dickie dosh and was replaced by Dave Jones - tough that.
Are those two the worst 2 appointments ever made at the Vic.

Disagree with that. DOF should be overseeing the whole football side so recruitment of players + staff etc not the coaching thats down to the manager. It's like your boss at work coming and telling the staff you manage how to do their jobs differently to how you've told them to do it.

The Coxall comments are not a good look for him and a lot of the Raj comments should be taken with a pinch of salt. An interesting listen either way, the Richard Money situation sounds bizarre.

Why does a team in the lower leagues need a DOF, the job description you state is a Managers.

Oh I’m not saying they do. I think Hignett was more saying he was acting as say a Head of Recruitment kind of figure who was more senior than the manager. I’m sure no one would want to see Chris Trotter popping up and doing some coaching, especially not if he was effectively Hartley’s boss

Coxall…. that says it all.
Remember going through to see Pools at Morecambe, sat in the cafe at Kirkby Stephen having a breakfast as the much heralded coaches of ‘Coxall’s Free Convoy’ barrelled through and one of the lads said “that could be the most expensive free bus ride in history”…… Coxall knew how to have the ‘grazers’ eating out of his hand.

Taking the bits about Pools out the equation he does talk some decent stuff. As per you’re being rather aggressive Snowy.

The piece around continuity of your team’s style, formation and identity and finding managers that fit into that mould is exactly what a lot of the best teams who have climbed the ladder have done. Swansea used as a very good example of that and also Pool’s IOR team also a good example used.

You then sell players you can’t hold onto for good money, reinvesting in more players who fit the same ethos. So as you build, you sell a few each season and sign only 2 or 3 more with additional quality along with a few loans of up and coming PL players that are too good for the level.

Personally think he nailed that given what we’ve seen from those who have climbed the divisions - and the alternative being a rebuild every season, a risk on a new manager who then impacts on the next man who inherits a mess and another rebuild if the first one doesn’t work.

Perhaps Hartley will be the start of this longevity for us as he has referenced building a consistent culture and ‘club’.

In Hodcrofts interview he said if Pools had been promoted to the Championship they had big investment plans albeit Scott wouldn’t have lasted 5 minutes as manager I don’t think as his signings the following season got Pools relegated.

‘Aggressive’…?yes the truth can appear that way.
He said nothing any other manager doesn’t know when it comes to continuity etc, he came in and thought he was going to be the bee’s knee’s and turns out that to everyone but him apparently, he was coming into an area of damage control after Coxall.

I always forget you’re Snowy. The beacon of footballing knowledge. A man who clearly always know more, the truth. More than Craig Hignett a man who played at the top level and has worked in near every job in football. Good god banghead

dogbreath.."has worked in near every job in football"

..yeah..exactly..we have "postage stamp" level knowledge as mere football fans..higgy's a pro so he must know what the f/k he is doing..of course..makes sense ..and this is why he made such a success of football management....and why there has been such a high demand for his services from football clubs across the land..we could start digging a little deeper into his personal life and relationships but lets not go there..eh?..heard it was a good night at the longlands club..

Not really, but what’s he done since he left Pools….? The way you’re bulling him up you’ll be getting a petition up to re-instate him.

Scott had small man syndrome, reading between the lines he went to Hodcroft and mentioned all the problems Cooper was going through. I think Ben Clarke had a go at Scott in the dressing room. Scott later turned up at a Durham pub where some of the Pools players were, there was an altercation there, not sure if Scott’s wife was mouthing off and it kicked off.

I remember that about the Durham incident, wasn’t it Mark Tinkler who brought it up?
