Byrne was very steady away for us last season. Tranmere certainly thought so if they're going to pay a fee for him! Hope it's more than we paid Halifax!

Disappointed. Thought he was very solid last season. Perhaps didn't do enough in the opposition penalty area ? Hopefully getting a decent fee in return.

Another player leaving for a league 2 team. Doesn't take a genius to work out why.

Spin what? Are you serious…? It’s football doing what football does.
If this is how worked up you get about football I wouldn’t you want you as back up in the real world.
Most of these players leaving were getting slagged off last season, yet now they’re the cement holding the team together. Really?
I got over Terry Bell going to Reading and never looked back, no one’s died, WW3 hasn’t started, a bit of football horse trading has gone on.
I’m chilled.

Must be some excellent Loan deals lined up!

Hartley will be a master manager if he gets us out of the bottom 6 without some big deals.

Shouldn't be letting players like Byrne go if we're serious about progressing. One of our better players last season, all our players available if there's money involved?

It’s not ‘how football works’ though is it Snowy. I’m not getting worked up either just always find your responses amusing.

I don’t think there’s a team in bigger transition than Pools in the whole EFL. Losing all their best, replacing them with gambles is how I see it right now. Byrne should not be sold.

Falkirk

Did read the Falkirk fan response to Hartley signature. Large upheaval and all went wrong but you’d hope he has learnt from this - and this exodus is by financial force rather than choice.

Even Sergey Lavrov couldnt put a positive spin on this one, although HUFC's self nominated propaganda officers could have a good go. This isnt selling our best players.... this is a Special Transfer Operation.

The top 5 players from last season for me were Molyneux, Timi, Ferguson, Sterry and Byrne. To be starting the next season with just 2 of those isn’t good. There’s no benefit to Pools to sell Byrne, I don’t imagine he’s on a particularly high wage having come from Halifax and I’d rather ensure we have a solid league 2 player to fall back on if PH’s new signings don’t hit the ground running.

Oh the wailing and teeth gnashing over bang average players on their way.
These players were never going to get you promoted, because with a number of exceptions were nothing special…. Some of you even went to the ridiculous, self delusional lengths of believing they were that good Challinor would come back and buy them ….. and what happened….ZILCH, NOTHING…..he wasn’t remotely interested in anyone….apart from one late season back up who didn’t even figure in this wonderful team’s line up.
Obviously some on here see Byrne as another comfort blanket being shredded, while Hartley has seen different ….. unless things change.
The usual suspects naturally are out seizing any opportunity to denigrate the club remorselessly to what end I have no idea.
The we want, you listen, you comply mantra still being banged out like a cow farting, pushing hot air into the atmosphere, adding to global warming but little else.

‘Best player’ category for Byrne….. if we’re talking Russian comparisons you appear to be the the one with the NKVD mindset, the little commisar who pops up on occasions like this to add to the confusion.

Have you noticed how all these players are going to teams who finished higher than Hartlepool last season? I hope we replace these outgoings with players who played 30+ games at our level or above for next season. Perhaps rather than another 8 Scots who haven’t played EFL football before.

more of a case that challinor had the money to sign better players than the ones he left behind and not rating those who he left. he is shopping now in a completely different league where money is the least of his worries. be interesting how all these ex poolies do with their new clubs and if they are regular starters or not. got a feeling that more than one will think back to the good old days where they were regular starters and not bench warmers picking up a few quid extra and around where we are in the league.

clappp Great to see someone make an actual point for a change. Automatically talking down the ability of every player who leaves Pools this summer isn't particularly smart and always begs the question, 'How do you know the ones coming in are going to be better?'

Pools finished last season in relegation form but the same group of players exceeded all expectations in cup competitions. Pretending that players who are leaving are average or worse makes no sense when they are being cherry picked by League 2 rivals with deep pockets.

Like every other Pools fan I'll take it on trust that Paul Hartley knows what he wants and will produce a better side next season. Can only hope there's some exciting incomings just around the corner - lads who have played at a higher level than Pools are currently at.

pesh..."I don’t understand how you could’ve watched him last season and come away believing he’s non league quality"

..afraid plenty of others have seen it my way and not yours...that's why last year as i say was his first and only season playing league football...and he's 29 ffs..his career shows you how good he is...hes a central defender with no aggression in him...i would be happy to play against him and i'm a wimp...he is soft as soft can be..when did you ever see him make a crunching tackle?..or more to the point stick his head in where he might get hurt?..he does not attack the ball or the opposition...if you like a gareth southgate type as a centre half then yeah this is your man..personally prefer a john gill, billy ayre, john mcphail, mick smith, mickey nelson type of a defender tbh..i'll wave him bye bye with no tears..he will be forgotten quickly by the fanbase..reached his peak with us...

billy..."Better wages"

...byrne has a year left on his contract..he goes only if hartley thinks hes shite ..has played a lot of his career in the north west..tranmere would suit..believe he has just got engaged to a lass from around there...for gods sake give the "cheap option" a rest and have a day off...just more of the "more money at shields"garbage again and again and again..from your club insider the "horses mouth"..talk about a broken record..ffs.. yawn1 :liar:

Perhaps some Pools fans need to come to the realisation that we're not at big draw in this league, there's many teams bigger than us who have the budget to offer our better players a better deal, Byrne is a good defender and it'd be a kick between the legs if we sold him, Raj promised a playoff budget this season let's see what the squad looks like when the window closes and then decide if we want to hang Raj by his ankles.

Probably will end up at Tranmere... didnt feature yesterday for long so makes sense.

if anyone watched yesterdays game you will have seen new signing Murray basically handle everything Hibs threw at him - given hes weeks away from actual match sharpness he looked very good to me - suspect there will be another CB through the door should Byrne leave.

The fact is apart from a short period of time pools have never been a big draw for any player out of the area. Regarded as a last chance saloon by some and i know one ex player who said to me when talking about pools, that although there are nice people up there they had not got enough money to make him sign for them and would rather go anywhere but us. Both Raj and Hartley have a job on their hands to sell the club to prospective players when they see present players making sideways moves for a few notes extra in their pay packets. The question would enter my mind would be whats the crack there.

Its the other end of the pitch that worries me the most. Finding at least an adequate CB is far easier than finding and signing a couple of goalscorers up front.

Until someone comes up with the money to take over this club and spend, spend, spend, we’ve got to realise that we’re a middle of the road club who can’t compete with the flavour of the month clubs.
That is the harsh facts of life.
If Hartley wants Byrne he’ll stay but just suppose Byrne wants to be away for personal reasons, non money related. Why does the answer to everything have be get your hand in your pocket?

If Hartley wants Byrne he’ll stay but just suppose Byrne wants to be away for personal reasons, non money related. Why does the answer to everything have be get your hand in your pocket?
Financial advice from fiscal Pygmy’s

think in byrnes case if what i have read is correct is that he is getting married to a lass in the wirral area. Knowing how women can be home birds it could be personal decisions in his case. Unfortunetly in most instances moving clubs or jobs can be about a few extra quid in your pocket which most moves in my life as been about that. Thing is like it will be with players that the moves ended up being bad choices. You never know till you move if they will be or not and thats the problem. Even if a team or workmate has done the same move and did well its not to say you or they will.

Judging by what Neill Byrne tweeted just last month there's no reason to suppose that:

"First season back in the EFL complete. Enjoyed every minute of it, 2 brilliant cup runs and some great memories made. Thank you to the fans for there amazing support throughout, created some of the best atmospheres. rest up and enjoy the summer  "

Mols and Timi Odusina made it clear they wanted to be away. Wouldn't be surprised if Omar Bogle hasn't settled. But if Neill Byrne goes that'll be the club's decision, not his.

I can’t even take that ‘bigger transition’ comment seriously enough to do a micky take about it.

That's why we shop in the lower leagues in Scotland and our players head off to other clubs in our league. Wakey wakey.

This Byrne thing sums it up nicely. According to the doom merchant’s MASTER PLAN X….

1. None of our players should have been allowed to go as they’re brill.

2. Money (not theirs) should be thrown with gay abandon to sign everyone that pops up, irregardless of cost.

3. We are recruiting Gaelic vagabonds to come and play for us, who’ve never seen a football in their life.

4.Er, that’s it?
