"Since Victoria Park (Ground) had opened, there had been an open terrace on the Mill House side of the ground or 'tips' side.
Finally in 1969, work began on the Mill House Stand which was to cost £40,000 and would seat 1800. The plans were for dressing rooms, offices and bars underneath, but it was unclear when this was to happen.
Today the Mill House Stand is much as it was built and rather strangely does not run the full length of the pitch. Although there is a bar and food outlet under it, the other plans never came to fruition."

I miss the bogs behind where you need a canoe to navigate the gallons of piss that did not drain away :)

When the stand opened I popped down to see a reserve match, didn’t usually bother, but thought why not. I approached the stand with one turnstile open on the Mill House side and received my ticket to enter the new stand…walked up the stairs at the town end turned the corner to find it totally empty at ten to three. The embarrassment increased as it was jus me sat there till I decided I’d slip furtively away and ended up in the town end with familiar faces from work…did I get some stick at work on Monday which is blush inducing when you’re 17.

Why they never put a roof over the terrace as well was beyond me. Anyone know why they built it as they did.

To be fair Mr A even if the built a roof over the terrace you’d still get wet, rain has funny habit of not falling vertically….. particularly near the sea.

Hardy souls on the Mill House Terrace.
Is it not a part of the recruitment training for the SAS to endure a full 90 minutes at a Tuesday night game in January?

They took Bear Grylls out on a stretcher after 7 mins one night match in August from there suffering from exposure and frostbite. I kid you not.

Get yourself a ticket for the away game at Harrogate if you're feeling nostalgic - the one tiny urinal provided for all the away fans is barely up to Northern League standards.

Though I did hear that at South Shields there are gold plated taps in all the netties

home season ticket holders though are very happy. they can reserve their own personal toilet when they renew.

Going on their average gate that’s an over provision of toilet facilities.
