Good Luck Gary - absolute legend of the club in my eyes - turned our season (s) around and was a major factor in why we won promotion that season !

claims he made his mind up before the new manager turned up - perhaps not offered a new contract or the contract he wanted by the club - or has he made the clever career decision to maybe take a step down a level on a longer contract - either turns up at Boro as a coach or more than likely heads up to South Shields or .. might even see him at a Gateshead or York ?

Time to go… you can only go on for so long at that age so I suspect the timing is right for him too.

Any news of Morris :auto-ambulance:

There was a post on Facebook that read quite interesting regarding our new management team - Dundee Fan was interviewed speaking of their former gaffer - Basically stated that he doesnt take any crap (hopefully thats Shelton off then) - doesnt suffer fools who arnt committed to the cause, fitness is key and sounds like he wont just nurse a player through for the sake of a pay packet - Lidds wouldnt of seen much game time so defintely the right decision

He may well have been offered more cash - however is this based on appearances - clean sheet bonus ? or just pure cash in the bank every week based on a longer contract too. Players talk but ... chinese whispers is a very real thing in football !

Maybe he was offered a reduced rate and just a years contract at Pools(this is common in football as one gets older) especially at our level. We have subsequently saved a wage that will now go towards paying hopefully another CB with guaranteed 40+ games a season in him. He leaves with everyones best wishes - lets not forget he was on painkiller shots for almost every game and didnt train as much - on a personal level this is probably the best scenario for him - if SS are wanting to seriously push on then he will be an asset for them in the games he does manage. good luck lad

Gary has been a great servant to Pools but he is 36 this month and probably wanted a two year deal. Good luck to the lad.

No way could they justify a two year deal when he was hardly a regular. Best case scenario all round if it’s actually been confirmed he is going to Shields.

time comes to us all. in some ways i,m really glad he has gone as i feel with his availability issues he did have last season his good work for the club would be forgotten by one season too far.

Pools probably offered what he is now worth whilst South Shields are paying over the odds which sounds about right only Billi Pooly knows the exact terms.

Liddle going to Shields solves a lot of problems all round. The lad get’s a new contract with possibly a coaching role included so might be on more, which I doubt.
His time here was up and he wasn’t fit for this division fitness wise anymore, so even a one year contract would be pushing it, fact is, he just wasn’t up to it at this level, when we need players who can mange a full season and not just make intermittent cameo appearances when available

Lidds clearly took the test last season and unfortunately the league had other ideas - his body couldnt take it and Pools have been bitten by crocks the last 4 seasons and i think we all know Raj probs wont carry passengers anymore - im sure he didnt want to become someone who we moaned about on here weekly for all the wrong reasons so bows out as a legend - good call from him !

hopefully shows the clubs ambitions for the future - no more dead wood

just need Cook to bugger off now - unless he can prove League standard fitness with the new manager and passes a rigorous fitness examination

In all honesty not sure.. wasnt there something in the paper the other day about it... Has he been released by Burton ?

again same rule applies - he should have to pass a rigorous examination. As much as i like the lad and thought he had great promise - hes one good tackle away from being the next Williams. This league has stepped it up a notch from last season - we cant afford passengers or bad playing staff.

eiphos.."he should have to pass a rigorous examination."

.. forget these "rigorous examinations"..they prove nothing..its playing week in week out that crocks cant maintain..and there is absolutely no reason why we need to gamble on bang average players like this...there will be better out there with no gamble necessary on fitness...

Even as a fringe player they need to be available when required. Signing anyone with fitness problems means you have to sign another in the same position as cover for when they,ll be out.

Apparently Morris has been told he has to wait to see if the new manager wants him. He is still under contract at Burton. As far as Cook is concerned, 32yrs old and only played in 14 games over the last two seasons mainly because of injuries, the mind just boggles as to how he was even offered a contract.

I can only think... towards maybe the end of Mr Spikes tenure he spotted something i was talking about before... the lad does possess quality and no doubt is good enough at this level - unfortunately, if you aint fit you cant score goals so no good to anyone ! He maybe was on the road to 100% recovery and told the club to offer him a new deal... weird situation but hopefully he doesnt cost us a wage and is gone come the summer. Swap him for Scott at the Heed.

It’s a bit like an E type Jag with a flogged out engine and transmission…. still looks impressive and very nice for a ride out in but not up to the full rigours of competition and prone to constant break downs.
You’ve enjoyed having it, you’ll be really sorry to see it go, but not up to the job or reliable enough anymore.

A perfect summing up of Garry Liddle, however seemed to have a calming effect on those around him and brought out the best in those around him. We will need a wise experienced head in to replace him.

He may well have had a calming experience Mr E, a point most people fail to appreciate, but it also depends on the ability of those around him to get the message sometimes.

would love him at the club if he could play 40 games a season like the one he did in his debut last season. thing is it aint going to happen.

...morris was only here because of bonehead..absolutely no other reason...and strongly suspect that what was happening with him was one of the triggers for raj wielding the axe.. now bonehead has gone no chance he will be returning...facts are the lad is crocked..he has another year left at burton who want rid..next season he will end up being loaned out god knows where..then after that shields maybe.??

I wonder if any of the Cove Rangers lads are good enough to make the move down here - they had a pretty decent defensive record.

also their striker from last season notched a fair amount and looks decent on the videos ive watched of him - better than Carver put it that way.

can see him being loaned out aswell under the new regime

quicker the better and hopefully pools will get him off the books to cut the losses. always wonder which game they watched him in to sign him to move up two leagues at his age. not carver i blame but those who signed him or recommended him.

What standard do you imagine Scottish League Two is in relation to English football? None of the clubs in that league managed average attendances last season above 1,000. 8 out of the 10 clubs in the division didn't even average 500.

My guess would be it's no harder to get out of than the Northern Premier League - South Shields would walk it, just like Kelty Rangers did.

Carver was scoring goals for fun for Southport in the National League North. He's never looked like scoring once since he came to Pools. Any player Hartley brings with him from Kelty will be an equally big gamble.

Its often difficult to see where teams like Cove & others at a higher level would fit into the EFL.
I am always a bit shocked to see some ex pools players playing in the Scottish Premier league.

Carver? I dare say Hartley will rapidly assess him and who knows what he’s like under his leadership. Funny old game football in that sense.

I allure to that also... i dont have the slightest of ideas where the lower realms of Scottish football sit - about 10 years ago I played some pre season games with a local Aberdeenshire club playing in the highland league, we played teams like Cove and Peterhead and tbh i was quite impressed by the standard at the time having given absolutely zero respect to it in the past and thought nothing more of it than maybe Wearside standard.

Now maybe a whole different story - I had this argument with a Mackem at work regarding PH's appointment, his tone was that hes had success with a sunday pub team playing farmers and ex Rig workers seeing out their sick pay packets. I begged to differ etc ...
but thats just it - where does a Scottish League one winning team fit into the say English football pyramid ? are they NLN level or lower? or are they say a solid NL side who wouldnt now look out of place in League 2 - the Scottish Championship isnt the Welsh Prem Division lets put it that way... Some cracking sides in there just now!
im presuming you also meant Cove Rangers that Hartley would be bringing players with him from and not Kelty ? Thats the other manager we was after former team (Mr Thomson).

indeed though any player would be a massive gamble - the 2 we now have in charge i feel have a lot better nous about them when it comes to finding a player good enough to play at our level and not just bring with them any old lad cos they are his pals.

have no idea of the actual standard up there. all i can say is that it seems easier for lower division english players to do well in the scottish prem and their next division, but many struggle going the other way. on top of that some players you thought were finished move up there in the bottom two leagues and start scoring again. its still football in both countries but possibly played differently up there like it is abroad compared to the english game. its back to the same old pub argument of where celtic and rangers would finish in the premier league.
