Currently Boro only have one train to London a day and we have 5 or 6.
If only we could get Trans Pennine Express to run down from Newcastle or Sunderland this would isolate Boro. Boro residents are not that far from and could use Thornaby or Stockton stations.

I can not for the life of me understand why the Grand Central doesn’t stop at Stockton.
I remember back in the early 80’s I used National Express for work courses if it was more convenient than the train.
I found out that once Cleveland County opened up the new Scalextric Bus Station in the Boro nearly all the services were transferred through to the Boro and only the London coaches remained…..when I asked how got back to Hartlepool from the Boro after midnight, the gormless advice was get a taxi, it would have cost more than the bleeding coach ticket….. then you use the car to travel.

I read that a Sunderland fan going to Wembley last weekend found the cost of return travel by either train or coach very pricey - about £200 return.
He came up with the solution by flying, firstly from Newcastle to Palma for £24 single, spent the night in a hostel which included breakfast for £8, then flew the next day to Stansted for £13. He had a friend who lived nearby who then drove him to Wembley. He then was contacted by a fellow supporter who was driving down with just 3 in the car and said he would give him a lift home.
Total cost about £50 and travelled 2500 miles instead of 600.
What a crazy world we live in.

No government has splashed the cash on public transport unless it was within the M25 and it came by the skip load…”.another underground line sir?”

worked on the buses pre and post de reg as well as privatisation. A disaster for those working in it as well as passengers. A case of luck where you live rather than that dirty word service you get. Even the name service was removed from your licence name. profit, profit and profit to look after shareholders seemed the moving force of the industry. Possibly the only good things to come out of it was less admin and office staff and closing of badly placed bus stations which hardly ever got used and the land sold off for better purposes.

I think Stockton platform is not long enough or the car park insufficient. Eaglescliffe is actually in Stockton Borough and easy to get to from the more affluent areas of Stockton and Yarm and has a long platform.
Fortunes were made selling off old bus stations eg Ambleside.

The bus industry has been run since de-regulation for the benefit of the bus industry.
