Holohan scored a 96th minute equaliser for Grimsby in their first play-off game against Notts County - they went on to win 2-1 in extra time.

Doing it the hard way again!

Sits deep, yet always manages to score goals.

Im not sure about this, but I think goals could be an integral part of winning matches. Its almost like as soon as we got rid of him, we struggled to score.

But he wasn’t playing before we got rid of him.

Cullen another injury prone player, Hendrix and Zara unlucky because we had better players in their positions and not really missed.

Hendrie would walk into the side now - if Timi goes and Lidds doesnt see as much game time - pathetic letting him go. ZFA was the ideal sub for Ferguson - im sure he would of signed on for another season as cant see Stockport wanting him nor needing him according to their rumblings on their forums. very bad decisions - maybe Raj even winced at those hence another cross against Spike, hence why he got bagged !

Gav has found his level at NL - even DC didnt have him starting never mind Spike. We only seemed to look like we missed him because the midfield we unfortunately left with went down hill soon as the pizza cup semi was done

...am i the only one on the planet who thinks lidds is 1.a defensive midfield player playing centre back 2.weak in the air and 3.too old and his legs have gone?...great servant for the club no doubt...but should be no room for sentiment in dishing out contracts..zfa and hendrie over him every time for me in any back three tbh..

OK we could have payed them for sitting on the bench. The fact is they would not have got on the field sadly the positions we needed were midfielders and forwards. Oh and Cullen played four games after leaving us and was out for the rest of the season injured which was par for the course.

...so....lets put it this way...do you think if we were struggling like... and are 1-0 down... and there are 20 mins left on the clock... it might have been good to at least have had the option of having experienced players with goals in them.. like cullen and gav.. on the bench.. ready to come on in midfield or up front and maybe snatch a goal for us ..do you think that might have been worth "paying for them to sit on the bench"..or in your world is the bench just really a plank of wood to sit on and nothing else?

Agree with point 3 - albeit his ball winning in the air isnt his strongest side of his game.

We cant be taking him into next season and expecting him to play every game - he did have a few horror shows last season - plus when he came on as sub he looked very rusty at times too. Confident we use him in cup games and his experience around the place tbh.

if we loose Timi - we ideally need 2 new CBs of very very good quality - either both starters or infact 3 - one good defender on the bench at least too

Poolie 1 - yes I would have liked them on the bench. You say they have goals in them. Not this season they had.( admit better than we had) Now playing Devils Advocat - They were unable to hold down their places in the side and were unhappy and wanted to be away which they did at the first opportunity. Their contracts were up at the end of the season and obviously they would be off so the chance to get some money for them was too good to be true for Raj. Of course being blind they didn’t bank on Grey,Morris and Cook being injured.

jon..."You say they have goals in them. Not this season they had."...."They were unable to hold down their places"

.do you go to many games?..they weren't played because we had a bonehead manager who decided early on they were not part of his long term plans...not playing because of any lack of form..but because of a lack of sense by a mug clueless manager who lasted only a few months in his job before being shown the door...and just go check out the stats on whether either player has any potential goal threat...ffs

I haven’t looked it up but they weren’t getting in before Lee took over and who was bothered about Cullen he was another crock. Since he left Gav has scored twice and that’s in the Nat. League which I believe most people think it is his level. Zafa was just unlucky that his position was covered by a good player. Look I think it was obvious Gav wanted to be away kept playing the injury card.I believe Zafa was well liked by most supporters but at the time the others went I don’t think many were unduly bothered.

Gav started the season well enough (2 goals in August) then had problems with injuries. Daly came into the side and started scoring regularly .

Lee gave Holohan a little run of games in January after Daly had been recalled. The Oldham, Carlisle and Stevenage bore draws and the loss at Bristol Rovers. Pools were dire, Gav was a long way from his best too and didn't manage a goal.

So Morris, Fletcher and White come in on loan, the fans can't wait to see the new lads in action, and Pools suddenly have 7 midfielders on the books.

Gav goes out of the first team picture completely and off down the road for good on 22nd March.

Meantime, the other six midfielders score 3 goals between them in 21 games - 1 apiece for Crawford, Morris and Featherstone (a penalty!)... bbolt

It's not so much about what Gav would or wouldn't have done if he'd stayed as what a massive let down those loan signings were.

snowy..."Let’s stop kidding ourselves, he wanted to be away, he was always gonna go."

..of course he was going if bonehead wasn't going to play him...but that should have been at the end of his contract...even if he pulled sickies...or started to cry...one of the mistakes that ended up costing bonehead his job imo...silver lining and all that...

It’s just my opinion and I believe many others. Let’s be honest apart from Pools he hasn’t played league football and whilst comfortable in the Nat. League he’s done nothing much in the League

jon.."It’s just my opinion"

..about what other peoples opinion is...."most people think its his level"...i really shouldn't have to explain this to you but you have no way of knowing what most people think unless you have asked them..right?..as i say i think the opposite to you on gav....and most people i know think he was a decent player for us ..definitely a league two standard player unlike that cotton bud charlie we still have on the books...and certainly a mile better better than the lads that bonehead played instead of him... like lead boots fletch or prima donna white.. bonehead made a call on all those players gav and cullen hendrie and zfa.."plenty of cover"..he got it well wrong and was shown up as the abject fool he is..we ended up with a team with no goals in it and an empty bench..we couldn't even beat a team of scunny kids ffs..in effect the man dug his own grave...

gav....P260 ...51 goals [from midfield and counting]
culls...P342... 75 goals [will no doubt be adding on return from injury]

hope grimsby do go up and then we will see if gav is a league player or not in how he does for them. if he scores 20 goals next season this board will be in meltdown. just cannot see it happening though.

Gav lasted 109 minutes against Notts County and 102 minutes against Wrexham, so I think it's safe to say he's over the mystery ailments that plagued the end of his Hartlepool career

He's quite the talisman for Grimsby - "They've got an Irish midfielder..."

Fully expect them to beat Solihull in the final.
