Mowbray now 1/1 ...

Surprised Turner hasnt thrown his hat into the mix to be involved with the club again somehow.

Grayson is an outside surprise but does make sense - was part of that Man Utd game above wasnt he ?

Does anyone seriously think Tony Mowbray is going to be Hartlepool United manager?

dog.."Does anyone seriously think Tony Mowbray is going to be Hartlepool United manager?"

...no idea how the bookies arrive at their lists of candidates tbh..mowbray has never managed at our level always much higher..saltburn lad but has no connection with our club or the chairman that i know of ?.. ex borer player and ex-teammate of raj's mate pally....but why would he be interested in taking on pools at this stage in his career?...no idea....certainly has a history of proven managerial success..and the kind of personality that we would want in charge...but likely to decide the pools challenge is for him?..very much doubt it..but some on here seem to think different..not sure why ?....again the bookies second favourite is robbie f/kin stockdale...currently making a right pigs ear of a job at rochdale....no history of managerial success at all...why is he even in the frame let alone second favourite for the job..?..because hes ex borer ?...cant think of anything else..and don't think he has a chance in hell but probably not interested anyway...just like his turnip head mate woody woodgate... maybe he is also best pals with bonehead and cant stomach the "horrific" way his mate has been treated by our club ?..

Your starting point with the Wikipedia table was Mike Newell, who of course took over Chris Turner in November 2002 when Fatty got his 'dream job' at his old club Sheffield Wednesday.

I think I was even more gutted when Turner left Pools than when Challinor did (also in November!) because we were walking the division. Mad Mike Newell didn't manage to stuff it up completely because we still got promoted. The side that Turner built then was basically the one that Neale Cooper inherited for his great first spell at Pools.

BTW, it was kind of you to overlook Neale's disastrous second spell in charge (17.5% wins!). Think in hindsight Hodcroft bringing Neale back as manager when he'd been out of the game for so long was an early sign that IOR were losing interest/losing the plot.

i think the main point i took from all those stats. how little time we give new managers and how much we seem to take the better ones for granted.

yes, and then sack em for someone as bad. Very rarely have we seen an improvement in the team with a new manager after the honeymoon period is over. in fact many times we never had a honeymoon but business as usual. the real stats say that there is a better chance of raj getting it wrong again than right. Not knocking him as this happens at most clubs like pools.

if Mowbray does somehow come to Pools - id like to think we give him the longest we have shown any manager. He has all the right workings to get us back to league one - he would just need time to first ...build a team.. tinker to get it right... bank an automatic promotion spot and then build upon that to keep us in L1. This i imagine would take us somewhere in the realms of 3 seasons tops, with him and a decent budget.

Eiphos - in a perfect world that would be right but this is football and sadly it doesn’t work like that. Not only at Pools but virtually at majority of clubs at all levels.

But the biggest problem is US…. we are the demanders, the expectant wannabe’s who want success. We who criticise, who are impatient when things don’t work. If the fans back a manager en masse and are patient, no owner in most cases would dare be rid of them.
That does not mean we back anyone regardless, no, if you really are crap you’re binned, but most fans know a winner when they see one.

We all know the warm fuzzy feeling of the manager when its right ! - DC gave me just that around the last game of the curtailed season when we had that march upto 7th before Covid struck. Im pretty sure i even mentioned on here at the time that should that form continue into the next season we would be promoted - luck would have it the rests magical History ! Hoping for that same again when we appoint the new manager and he kicks us into the top half of the table before Xmas

Tony Mowbray wants his next club to be someone with 'ambitions of getting into the premier league.'

Surely every club has ambitions of getting into the Premiership, so surely what he’s really saying is …. is capable of getting into the Premiership.
If that’s what he means, we may have a problem.

yes ambition and capability are worlds apart in football - i suppose any day now we get the bbc radio 'Buuruu' interview where Mowbray laughs off the speculation and Stockdale becomes fave.

Doubt the names of mowbray or stockdale would have come up if they were born say in hitchin and played for watford and managed them. North east obsession once again.

Someone on the other board has said that Simon Grayson and the current Gateshead manager were interviewed yesterday. Grayson has a good history but not so good recent history at Blackpool and Fleetwood.

Interesting if it's true. I mentioned to a mate yesterday that Williamson had done a good job at Gateshead and that, if Pools haven't already got someone lined up, he would be a good outside bet.

Not even in the running according to Betting Odds!!

Grayson and the gaffer and Williamson as his number 2 - id settle for that.

but are we not just going down the route of getting a young manager in again. No League experience etc..

someone with Graysons experience would be good just dont think he is the man for the job unfortunately.

..i wonder..would it be considered "disrespectful" and "bad timing" to announce the new manager so soon after boneheads exit?...might upset some?....maybe the new boy has been decided upon and its just a case of waiting until the appropriate moment ....with due consideration given to others feelings like..? ;)

yes this was my thinking also - Alot of people speculated even on the other board aswell that his replacement was already lined up due to the nature of the dismissal 1 game off the end of the season. Not sure why he wasnt given just the last game but a suppose Raj showing his hand and having no sympathys - show em whos boss kind of thing.

Interesting rumour - member on the other board claiming that Curtis Fleming was spotted down seaton few days ago. Obviously was our number 2 back in 2016 - Bristol City assistant manager just now. Knows the club and the area (Boro connection again unfortunately as left us for them). But i reckon he would do a job for us.
I have a feeling we will end up with an Assistant manager from a championship club looking to get a head coach position.

Possibly we can all make a case for or against any manager who is available or who ever gets the job in the end. We are not in a position to have a choice of anybody in the game, so whoever gets the job will have no experiance or baggage from previous clubs. They start with a blank sheet of paper for me and whoever gets it should be allowed to get on with it till they prove one way or another if it was a good appointment.

According to Matty Jones in today's Northern Echo: "the club are now in the process of shortlisting candidates for the vacant manager’s position and are hopeful of completing an appointment in a month’s time." Presumably he's not making that up and it's HUFC's description of the process that is in hand.

Not sure how that squares with sorting out a retained list and currently stalled negotiations with the likes of Molyneux? On whose say so will any recruiting of new players be done before, say, the middle of June?

The first fixtures of the new season will be on Saturday 30th July because of the Qatar World Cup.

It's starting to feel like what's in store is the same mad scramble to get a squad together as the beginning of last season.

Doubt I'll be renewing my season ticket on the Early Bird offer!

after the better ones have been picked up. you would have hoped and expected to see smoke coming up from the boardroom well before a month is out to give the new guy a fighting chance in recruiting players and discussing contracts of players not signed up yet. the theory of having someone ready to step into spikes shoes has gone if the report is correct.

the fact the club are saying its going to be a month long drawn out process - my theory of having a man already lined up us right out the water - little annoyed by this - crucial time to get a new manager and we are going to wait circa 4 weeks to mess about - should of been lining up weeks before Spikes departure as Raj must of known he was going to be swinging the axe. Saving grace in the comments made though would be they are not just looking at out of contract managers - very interesting.

Raj was Interviewed about new manager, doesn't sound like there will be an announcement anytime soon, Halifax manager was mentioned though and he said he wouldn't be interested yet in job as they are still in the play offs.

Could be another Neale Cooper, I think he will take the Raith Rovers job as he won’t want to hang around for Pools if indeed he has applied for the job.

If I understand correctly we have Killip, Ferguson, Byrne, Sterry, Featherstone, Crawford, Grey, Bogle & Carver all signed for next season.

Liddle, Ogle, Smith, Shelton, Fela, Timi and Molyneux all to make decisions on.

Timi has already had an option exercised but he is under 24 so if he leaves we will be due compensation which will include a sell on clause.

I am hoping and praying Molyneux has an option in his contract which is a possibility. It doesn't stop him leaving if his head is turned, but it means we won't be out of pocket.

So we are actually in a fairly strong position, be interesting what announcement is made tomorrow tea time as we had Killip on Wed, Grey today - I think there is a deliberate communication plan in place - maybe it will be the retained list in full but I hope its something positive about Molyneux.

Yeah really good interview and nice to see him making the point, of moving on from what happened 4 years ago. It's a ready made excuse from a lot of our fans still to this day why we can't do well after what happened 4 years ago.

I think there is a deliberate communication plan in place - maybe it will be the retained list in full but I hope its something positive about Molyneux.

Molyneux will do what’s best for Molyneux. If he’s here at the start of next season it’s because nobody wanted him. End of!

The article indicates he signed a new contract last summer, rather than the club taking up the option of another year.

I have no idea if he has a 1 year option in his contract that the club can trigger, I just hope we included one.

..no thats not my reading of it..he signed a 12 month extension to his original 2 year deal...an agreed "option"..and there are no other options in reality..if a player wants the contract to end at expiry then thats it...."forcing" an option "UEO" on a player generally accepted as unenforceable legally.. and player anyway would just go sick or suffer surprise loss of form if it were done ..think we once tried with porter..so generally considered not the done thing..think mols had an agreed extension to his original 2 year deal..thats where it ends..extensions dont have indefinite options to extend...its over and he can leave..we cant force him to stay..so forget about "praying"..

It says in the article that he’s signed an extension e.g he’s signed a new contract to stay at the club for another year. This is different to an option which continues the same contract as has been done with Killip and Grey.
If a contract is signed with an optional extension within it’s definitely legally enforceable seen as both parties have agreed to this when agreeing the contract.
