My brother in law is a Newcastle fan and can be a wind up merchant at times. He just told me that Andy Carroll is coming to pools and Garath Bale to Newcastle. sctatchinghead

All Toon players to learn Welsh as a special match tactic.

I could see Blackburn pair Aynsley Pears (keeper) and Harry Chapman (midfield) possibly being on the radar, neither getting game time there and with ex-Boro connections.
Pears has only played 6 first team games in 2 seasons there and Chapman had been on 6 months loan at Burton till last January after his two and a half year contract at Rovers ran out in July 21.

Bloody Welsh language….years ago on the first time I drove into Wales I wondered what ARAF meant on the road…. turns out it meant ‘slow’… how about important signs in both languages …..?
Went in to a tourist information in North Wales of all places and the three ladies working in there were having a laugh about their holidays…. as soon as the wife pointed something out to me they changed to speaking Welsh.…..they don’t help themselves.

Bale was coming to Pools, but FA rules allow only two man buns per club so Killip must be getting a new contract.

back to when we went to cardiff for the sheff wed final i got totally lost trying to follow those two language road signs. kept looking at the welsh ones and by the time i looked for the english ones i,d gone past where i wanted to turn. too much info on one sign for me and it would have been better to have had two separate signs one in each language. thing is i cannot imagine a single person who is welsh that can only speak welsh and nothing else. they,d be in for a lonely life if thats the case.

I can see having the language in an historical context but in practical terms the world moves on. They’re trying to make relevant a language used by 28.6% of the population of Wales and nearly nobody bothers in South Wales with it at all. It’s all based on flogging their supposed nationhood, a delusional political smoke and mirrors bit of political chest beating.

If you were in north west Wales its their first language so they are quite entitled.
When i see the signs ARAF i always think in my head "RARF" which makes me laugh

Allan means "out".
It would sound a bit strange if the crowd started chanting "Lee Allan"

cannot see any difference to gaelic in scotland or even the cornish language or manx. from a historical point of view no one wants a language to die out but the welsh have pushed it more than one step too far. Bit like the afrikaaners in suid afrika who insist on the praat afrikaans and nothing else if they can avoid it.

As over 60% of Welsh people don’t speak the language and the vast majority of English visitors don’t, common sense would advocate bi-lingual signage on road warning signage.
You are not ‘entitled’ to endanger someone else’s life because you live in North west Wales.
Anyway, the English are recolonising it a gain regardless, especially Manc’s and Scouser’s.

Visited Chester Zoo 2 weeks back. Stayed in a hotel which labelled itself as being local to the Zoo and in chester. Was 5 miles inside the welsh boarder. The signage baffled the mrs and in turn we did the same. Got lost. Iphone maps on and ended up in traveller heaven. Caravans and lurched as far as the eye could see. Went into the local boozer for food. Everyone was a scouser. Bizarre part of the world.

All the North Wales coastal strip for 10 miles inland is a Scouse colony…… gets better past Conway.

been like that for years though. my first visit to wales was ebba vale in the south. a few years later went to colwyn bay expecting the accent to be the same. no, it was more new brighton than newport. thats over 60 years ago. imagine anyway all those who do speak fluid welsh actually think in english, even those who rarely get out of a little village where they are all the same.

I like hearing the language as it makes me feel I am on an expensive foreign holiday yet I am camping on cheap campsite in the Nantlle valley.
