Surprised to see with five games to go they’ve only got a one point lead over Wrexham after a 2-0 home defeat to Borehamwood. There’s me thinking they had it all sorted, squeaky bum time it appears.

Yes and they have Wrexham to play at their gaff

Could DC be jumping ship again soon?

I can hear the sound of the rations going into the lifeboat. Seriously though, the over confident Stockport fans must surely be thinking Uh oh….they’ve lost two out of the last three and it appears no matter how many you win there’s always someone on your shoulder closing the gap all the time
With Wrexham a point behind, that rear view mirror will be getting some stick.
As long as there’s only one automatic place there’s always gonna be a driven pack behind.
An awful league, a bottleneck of a league, with a need for two up automatically and one playoff spot.

They are trying to impersonate torquay from last season. We know how that ended and how they have done this season. No matter what my lads says i have a feeling if they do not do it this season they never will for a few years and challinor will be off around next christmas time to a club even closer to where he lives.

well he might have an end of season clear out if they do not make it so could do us a favour by pushing players our way. well thats if we could persuade em to take a pay cut.

10 of the top 13 in the National League are ex Football League sides all vying for promotion.

Stickport play away at Chesterfield tomorrow (tough one!) whilst Wrexham are away at BoringWood

Then next Sunday (8th) the big one - Wrexham v Stickport - that surely will sort out who gets automatic promotion?

Stockport had a massive goal difference swing about two weeks ago of around 14 that has disappeared to 2 better than Wrexham, if they lose at Chesterfield it could well be game on for Wrexham.

Teams in the National League play 44 games. Stockport with 4 games left are still the favourites for automatic promotion, but only just.

Depends which way you look at it. From his angle they were no more than squad players who at the best made the bench. From plenty of fans angles some of them should have been regular starters or at least got more time on the pitch. Gav was the stand out one who was not having the best of seasons even before challinor left but before or since others have hardly set the pitch on fire but their place is guarenteed.

The Titanic all over again, getting shot of players is like the Captain of the Titanic ordering all the lifeboats and life jackets thrown overboard because everyone says we’re unsinkable.
We aren’t and neither was the Titanic….which actually didn’t have enough lifeboats.

agree with you, but no one at the time knew the unavailability list would be like it has been I,ll still stand by what i said before that the players mentioned should have had more game time and there was a bigger case for others to be shipped out especially loanees but doubt pools would want to upset their parent clubs for possible new loan moves. another case of being penny wise pound foolish.

Getting rid of these players worries me in another respect. Might be wrong but i have a feeling it was a form of cost cutting going hand in hand with footballing reasons. This does not look good for the summer if true as the savings made were hardly that great. anyone sitting on the fence to renue a season ticket might decide not to bother especially those who do not watch every game.

the fact Sage have took probably a large % of the unforcasted Revenue from the Cup runs - plus any tax owed on it etc... it now all makes sense as to cut the wage bill - gather extra funding from Holohan and ZFA and maybe use that cash for the summer. As i presume cash from sales of players isnt included in that unforcasted revenue ? I dont like the idea at all - nor does it sit well when we cant field a full bench and get knacked off a bunch of kids but if it means bringing in more quality in the summer or even replacing the flapper then fair play for this one. Still shite that we have to sell players i still felt had value at the club but stranger things have happened in football so we will see how the next few weeks pans out

..its unbudgeted income..of course its included... like the cup run monies.. sterry sale money will be going direct to blackledge..read mr i's recent post below ..and he should know ..."a chunky percentage"..

"There is indeed a clause that a proportion of unbudgeted revenue goes back to sage. I don't have the figure but I do know its a chunky percentage. Pools obviously get the league payments but a lump of the cup run money goes back to Blakeledge."

Didn't raj say they get cuts of player sales and money when we get back in the football league. He did an interview about it or am I dreaming? They do not get all the money from a sale they get a percentage.

nightmare - was hoping player sales where out of it due to their nature, but then again it is unforcasted revenue if say PSG came in for Sterry and offered us a few mill. If anything... the cup runs make our debt smaller and quicker to pay off - silver lining and all that. Lets just hope whats left plus the EFL moneys (Challinors severance / Fulham money) all get thrown at the new players - my worry is our management wont pick the right ones

Hickton is coming in as goalscoring coach I was told….. and welder extraordinaire Alf Tupper has been touted as fitness supremo, I kid you not and the Wolf of Kabul has come as ‘Incentive Enforcer’.

I’m starting to dread what the signings will look like. Yes, I have no idea, but I don’t know what to expect. I still feel like we’ve got two people in charge of the team who won a competition to be manager for the day and no one’s dared tell them.

If you feel underpressure what would be your first move. Just bring your mates and friendly faces in around you in some sort of siege mentality.

Another brick in the wall….. if the keystone moves on we’ll have no staff left, they’ll just form a huge column of his disciples heading for the A19.
I still don’t get how anyone can be in charge of player recruitment behind a screen.

Data analysis can go a long way (Moneyball is well worth a read, even though it's a different sport). Fenway bought that forensic data analysis with them to Liverpool from the Boston Red Sox when they bought the club. Data science is at the heart of player recruitment and their tactics on the field. Their head of analysis was on the Christmas Lectures a couple of years ago. It's from about 28 minutes on here and is well worth a watch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q4DrUHKC0Q

Obviously, the problem is that you've got to be very good at data science to make it work (I've no idea whether our guy is or not) and a Premier League club (Liverpool in particular, but even a club like Brentford who use that approach too) will have vastly greater resources that we have. Plus bad analysis is often worse than no analysis at all.

I guess we'll know whether it's a good idea for Pools in about 6 months time...

all this data alysis will only give you part of the picture of a player. its pools we are talking about and not the premier league. they,ll have their own jamboree of scouts to back this up and its another ball game in recruiting top players to a mid table div.2 side with at the best an average budget to work with. another case of mimiking the top but doing it on a lesser budget.

Basically you can have someone like this if you have the money to splash, but only as part of a team, never as a stand alone did it all on the internet model. If you have scouts as well to assess the player you can get together to assess the prospective signings suitability, stats only give you part of the picture.

Pre season will be the usual sign 2 players after a few weeks, fans will claim they are fantastic signings, though they will of played 10 games between them in the last 3 year's and probobly come from Halifax reserves.

Then be 4 weeks of quiet everyone is on holiday, then we will have the star signing from Boro under 23s that Boro fans rave about despite being 10th in their pecking order of midfielders, maybe some lad that can't get a game for a league 1 club and another couple of kids.

Basically nowt once again will be splashed on the first team, but we will have a data analyst and some guy signing players off fifa.

No faith in this club showing any signs of ambition yet.

snowy...."stats only give you part of the picture."

..and the prof backs you up i think..

"the role of statistical analysis is secondary to the expert identification of the characteristics of optimal player performance. It is concluded that effective analytics in sport must always be coach-led."

.."always be coach led"...except at pools where the boneheads geek boy mate is the top man......
