They haven’t won a match since the 8th of February and only won four matches all season and have a stunningly similar recent run of form to ours.
I wouldn’t like to even guess how this could turn out at their place.

It'll be like losing to Orient's youth team in one of the last games of the season, the year both got relegated to the NL. At least that one wasn't with the added embarrassment of it being the fancy dress party fixture.

Remember that match well, Pools looked they’d been asked to play in those big deep sea diving suits with the brass helmets….. a disgrace of a performance.

accrington..."nah, pools will hammer them and the last few games will be quickly forgotton with talk about promotion next season coming up."

..scunny are mainly kids because of their efl loan and transfer embargo...but their manager keith hill is certainly no bonehead...and of course lee turnbull will know our many weaknesses inside out ..decided to put a tenner on at 16/5... decent punt...

As they used to say on ‘Stingray’ as a kid….”Anything can happen in the next half hour!”, same applies to Pools if you change ‘half an hour’ to ninety minutes, mind you the performance will be more wooden than the Stingray puppets.

could be an interesting but sad day for anyone who travel down. will the scunny fans stay away in numbers or will there be some sort of action by fans as we saw at oldham last saturday. just cannot see it being just an ordinary away day. if things do turn nasty i hope no poolies get involved in it.

First article says that average attendance this season has been under 3000 in a relegation struggle. Raj needs to realise that we are heading that way if cash is not made available for some decent recruits.
Defeat at relegated Scunthorpe would confirm that the current squad are wanting!

Not just the squad, if the ships not working, question the Captain first, not the crew.
He who steers the ship etc.

geeky data analysis....for those who like shots to goal ratios and such shite...scunny form....bottom of the league and already down...

"With the 2-1 away defeat at Bradford, Scunthorpe United have lost their last 4 away matches, bringing their winless run to 14 matches in the league. The team has lost 7 of their last 8 matches in League Two. Scunthorpe United stats show the team has picked up an average of 0.57 points per league game since the beginning of the season. Their form stats indicate that in the last 8 league matches the team's points per game value has been averaging 0.13, which is 77.2% lower than their current season's average."

..in other words..this should be a walk in the park...right ??...then bring on the nurses outfits.....

Speaking beforehand, this match is a minefield. In theory, this should be a win, but football isn’t like that, it likes to kick you in the fundamentals.
However, in the real world, fans have expectations and the ‘expectations’ in this case must be a win.
A draw would probably be just as unacceptable, a defeat however would be the cake icing on the headstone.
A season that started with chaos and turmoil, levelled out and took a good turn then collapsed has been like a ride on a roller coaster with greased wheels …. It has given no real pointer to the future, just confusion.

It's a shame that proper clubs seem to be felling through the cracks annunally to be replaced by plastic playthings of millionaires.

Mt first Pools game was against Scunthorpe. They were flying at the top and we were flying at the bottom. 1-0 to Pools, Ron Young scored the winner.

actually saw their last ever game at the old show ground. knew one of their players at the time and themoving to a new ground with a wedge of cash in the bank seemed the main thing being talked about. nothing much really changed with a few promotions quickly followed by relegations.

Ron Young Aaaah. what a worker. I remember him scoring a very, very late goal as I hovered at the exit…. Y’know, hoping we score but wondering if I should make a dash for the Number Six bus… an overcast day as I remember…… anyway, missed the bus got talking to a mate and got a later, quietish No 6 and who was sat on the long back seat opposite me on the double Decker, John Gill, lived around the corner from us, wanted to say something but you tend to get a bit tongue tied at 16

keith hill talking about the game on scunny os site...wise man.....

https://www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk/new ... encounter/

"Hill is hopeful of a good turn-out of home supporters for the match, which should see around 2,000 away fans make the trip from the north east.

He added: "The supporters have been magnificent in what's been a really, really difficult season. I've got to thank the supporters on behalf of the players and football staff for the courage they've shown in supporting us away from home and at home. It's been incredible really and we want to pay them back.

"What we don't want to see though is the type of scenes that happened at Oldham last week, where the ramifications are not about the group of supporters running onto the pitch but the sanctions imposed on Oldham. We've already had so many sanctions this season with respect to the embargo, and not being able to trade like other clubs have been able to in the summer and January.

"What we don't want to see is supporters invading the pitch, because the ramifications on the football club will lay heavily financially. I hope the supporters can see common sense and realise the future will be bright. We need them 100 per cent and I'd encourage as many supporters as we possibly can to support this young group as we play Hartlepool on Saturday."

naturally enough scunny fans are of course getting all emotional and sentimental about their experiences supporting the club over the years....some classics on this twitter thread....feel for these lads.... :(

George Young
@GiorgioGiovane
As Scunthorpe United prepare for the final games as a Football League club, here are some of my personal memories of 25+ years of attending games. Most of them have little to do with the actual football.

https://twitter.com/GiorgioGiovane/stat ... 8004008966

e.g
"Winning 4-0 at Rochdale but spending the whole game singing "Megson Out" songs because he'd been linked with the managerial vacancy. He was not appointed."

e.g
video clip of record breaking f.a cup penalty shoot out...well worth a watch.....32 penalties... .

"Whether people dismiss last season’s efforts or not, the quick turnaround simply has to have had an impact on the players at various stages this season - none more so than over the last six weeks.
To, again, put this into context you only have to think about international players who compete in summer tournaments and their condition when they return to duty at the beginning of a season. It takes its toll."

https://www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/sport/ ... de-3671324

..some classic arse licking here by the fail in the run up to the big game....never changes...recent loss of form ?...the problem is the players are possibly tired...no other possible bonehead related management causes for the ongoing abysmal performances considered ...not a mention...not a sniff...the issue is only..are these players on the beach or not ?..sorry but this is just the usual unsophisticated crap tbh.....

surely for scunny... it has to be bilo between the sticks ?...surely...but... i reckon if it wasn't for the weight of his hair bun holding him down ..flapper might have got a punch on that ball and prevented their third ..from 08.27..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAGWoo8WfnE

..maybe not...even without the bun..

says here flappers jump is all wrong...is the club not using this free internet stuff to help our players improve.?....only using it for the geeky trotts recruitment stuff...??....ffs...

think all that is true. the question is would the players attitude over these last few weeks have been different if they has been involved in a normal pre season with the longer break they are used to. do know myself when i changed jobs once it worked out i,d done nearly 2 years without even a week off. i was knackered in every respect. went to the docs and explained the situation where he gave me 4 weeks off and had to go back to see him after those 4 weeks. first time, and i was in my early 30,s at the time, i knew my body had limitations.

Just 12 players trained at the start of the week…. Never mind the bench, will we have a fit 11 to play the game?

I believe we will struggle to have 4 on the bench again this weekend - its nothing more than embarrassing. If Smith starts we get beat simple.

hell we might even see Killip don an outfield shirt and play at the back - this club worries me at times

We’ve had more injuries than a lemming convention at Beachy Head.
