Always fascinated me how with the advent of the Premiership, the title Division one would not be good enough for the founders and some grandiose title celebrating the superiority and bling values would be needed. The wannabe’s in Division Two would be wetting themselves to get in on the act too like the aspiring ‘up where we belongers’ they sadly are and the Championship was born.
Oddly enough Leagues One and Two appear for now to have no such crass ambitions though doubtless some would love to try a bit of debatable rebranding out of pure egocentricity.
Possible names for Div One could be the ‘Dream League’….the ‘If Only League’ or even the ‘ We should be so lucky League’.
Div 2 could become the ’Safe for another Season League’, or the ‘We know our place League’ or even ….’ The humble League’.
The National League would just be called ‘The Quicksand League’ because once you’re in…….it won’t let go.

Perhaps leagues 1 and 2 could have a sponsored name.

Div 2 = Spam league :character-spamcan:
Div 1 = Spam "Lite" league :character-spamguy:

After our debacle in the basement world of Football - it gave me a considerable appreciation for just how good that league could be, if it was given a bit more notice by the FA. Its certainly not just the Conference anymore. The part time bricklayer with 60 goals a season simply just doesnt exist anymore - the fact there sits some 5/6 teams who have seen their day in the highest of the divisions just gives precedence to how football has and still is changing. I believe it could and should be called League 3 - before long it probably will be made up entirely of ex league clubs and good ones at that. Should York and Gateshead find their way back and say Southport. It wouldnt look out of place being a Div 2 league 20 years ago.

its only getting better aswell and as more teams become full time and we see lads getting dropped from academys at alarming rates and ending up at these small clubs.

Agree it should be aligned closer or in the EFL given your points made above. Currently its like going into a gulag and the keys being thrown away.

I once heard it described as sitting in the middle of Morecambe Bay when the tides right out and asking yourself……. ‘How do I get out of here and avoid the quicksand’
