Cheers mate.
We're alright so far, it's just like a heavy cold. Tonight I'm attacking it with a drop of rum.

they did say it would have a slight resurgence once all restrictions lifted and essentially everyone went about their business as normal. China are suffering with it again - quite under wraps by the media but i have a friend working out there and he said few large towns have been completely locked down again

China is in a different situation of their own making because they try to stamp out every outbreak and there's no herd immunity in the general population.

Was listening to Radio 4 this morning and the report said there's definitely a new variant in the UK but it's milder than previous ones. I guess we'll each be the judge of that when we've had it!

Thanks lads. I think it might be the new variant. Rasping cough and throat feels like broken glass.
Feeling a bit better this morning.

Sorry to hear about your news, Mr.D but obviously happy to learn that you are feeling better.

I had noticed over the last month or so that that the word "Covid" had completely disappeared from all the news items I had heard/seen on the radio/TV which seemed odd. Having a couple of medical appointments myself, I assumed they would be the people "in the know" but they could only corroborate my thoughts.

I also noticed that when Johnson was put on the spot for his latest wrongdoing (just for a change), he no longer trotted out his standard bombastic, "Fantastic Covid results" to each and every question instead resorting to his trademark meaningless waffle.

I said to the missus that the smell of a rat was becoming overpowering and that I suspected the case numbers were almost certainly increasing The very next day, it was announced that Covid numbers had increased by 25% in all categories.

Ho-hum.

Numbers would naturally increase if all restrictions were lifted, that’s a no brainer, but don’t see a problem.

It is a nuisance but no more than that. The vaccine has turned it from being a deadly disease into a nuisance.
I have had worse with what the girl's call Man Flu. I have not been able to go out, obviously to stop me giving it to others but that is an inconvenience which it is infinitely better that the stop start of lockdowns.

During this whole episode, neither me or the wife has been tested whereas we know people who seemed to be addicted to it, yet have had it and don’t even realise it.
I do believe the vaxxing took the bite out of the virus and had no problem whatsoever with it, but some people went way over the top at both ends of the spectrum.

that was the problem, fear at one end and any information they could get was used by the other end. some of this info was taken out pf context for them. imagine a good majority of those who lived in fear were the ones who visited the doctors at every available opportunity. never got tested as i have had none of the symtoms in the same way i,d not go for an eye test as long as i can read the small print with my present specs on.

My wife and daughter are regular testers but that is because they run girlguiding in the village and every Monday they hold and organise meetings for around sixty children. I don't test regularly and, prior to Monday just gone, have not had a test since November, which was a compulsory one for re entry to the country. When, on Monday morning, my wife tested positive I felt obliged to take a test for obvious reasons. We immediately went into self isolation and girlguiding for that day was only attended by our daughter and other helpers.
This morning, the fifth day, I am still positive but my wife is negative which indicates she caught it first, with me following behind. The advice we got was to remain in self isolation until a negative test is achieved on three consecutive days. Seems reasonable to me so we're following that advice.
So far our daughter has been clear.
As a footnote, because of the family involvement in girlguiding I have always thought that if we caught it, the likelihood would be that it would come from the girls but it hasn't appeared that way. Although hardly a week goes by without a parent informs us that their child has it. Those children are told to stay away until clear.

Thats one good thing thats come out of the whole affair. Do think it will stay with us for many years that if you are ill you should stay at home. How many of us in the past have gone out and to games when not up to it with illness passing it around to others. Went to a game at burnley with her indoors a few years back and within a day we were both took to our beds. Must have picked it up there as we had been nowhere else for days prior to the game.

Yes I remember working with a bloke in his sixties who always seemed to be absent with bronchial problems. He said it stemmed from when he was my age (mid twenties at the time) and ignored respiratory symptoms, just went to work and elsewhere in all weathers. He paid the penalty later on when his bronchial conditions went chronic, and eventually killed him.
Made me think but he maybe couldn't afford any time off work

The worst for ignoring viruses are the 'hard men' at the gym (it nearly always is men) who work out like a maniac then sit in the sauna or steam room trying to 'sweat out' the flu or whatever. It's a badge of honour that they don't let anything get in the way of their training regime - and stuff what anyone else thinks. Of course, excessive exercise when you're already running a high temperature is a good way to kill yourself...

Completely agree with you earlier comment, Snowy. You only had to step outside the door after each relaxation of 'guidance' etc. to see the change in people's behaviour, culminating in "Freedom Day" signalling a return to pre-pandemic "normality". It's called Human Nature, I believe.

Johnson had prepared a "Churchillian" speech to coincide with the announcement but was more than a little pissed off when he was advised that it was deemed to be "inappropriate".

My point was that we were all, suddenly, being kept in the dark about a situation which, admittedly, appears to have peaked (currently) but still remains a very serious matter.

Could tell you a few stories about their obsession and the need to break the pain barrier, didn’t always end well either. Squash players seem to become possessed for some bizarre reason and the older ones appear to have something to prove.

you could put many of those joggers in that catogary. the look on their faces show they are not enjoying it one bit so why do it in the first place. life is short and hard enough without watching your diet and exercising when its not for you. i,ll stick to 2 hours dog walking every day, eating what i want to keep my old body only half a stone heavier than when i left school. 6ft1in. and 12 stone 10 without running and eating food i do not like.

I read a report once that took place in the 1950’s to define the fittest group of workers and dockers came out on top, they were constantly on the move lifting and carrying, however their average life expectancy was just 48.
That said, why would anyone doing a physical job need to go to a gym other than for social purposes.

Some people used to start to play squash to get fit.
In reality you have to be fit to start to play squash........or heart attack beckons.

and its funny how there is a bar at these places where they,ll have a pint after. same when they go to have their 18 holes of golf to keep the pounds off. always think the clubhouse is the main attraction of golf anyway.

Is squash good for anything other than getting a sweat on? It's the world's worst spectator sport and playing squash is to tennis what pool is to snooker.

Not that working class kids get the opportunity to play tennis these days - or squash for that matter. When I was a teenager in County Durham local authorities still had enough money to maintain sports facilities properly and you'd get tennis courts next to the bowling green - both in great nick and cheap as chips to play.

thing is tennis courts only seemed to be full around the wimbledon fortnight and hardly used at other times unless the weather was perfect.

You’re dead right there, we had them opposite my mam and dad’s house and for 50 out of 52 weeks of the years they were just tumbleweed cages with the wind whistling through the mesh..... same with talk of youth clubs, tried several but they were all very cliquey and unwelcoming, invitation only and the vast majority of kids went nowhere near them.
That’s the trouble with this country, we’ll never produce top sportsmen and women, because everything is organised by clubs, so we choose from the pick of the club members.
There’s talent out there .... but the majority of kids have no chance of finding out.

Thanks John, we're getting there but I'm still testing positive. It's being very stubborn.
I think it would have been a different kettle of fish without the jabs, that's for sure.
Have you got that rifle of yours in tip top condition ???

There might be a time lapse between the infection and the next jab but i qualify as over 75.
