New Year starts out as a must do when you’re young and gradually becomes a bit of an irritant as you’re expected stay up when you just wanna go to bed. Thankfully...anyone first footing is greeted by the howling screams of rat boy trying to get through the door to scatter them.... first footers to us, ...... but burgling rapist murderers to rat boy ‘s senses.

It's always been a pain in the arse for me, a nice Indian takeaway from the Shalimar in Billingham, couple of beers, bottle of wine early to bed early rise down the beach with the dogs and a nice clear head. Happy new year to all fellow poolies.

Evening food & drinks at the sister in laws,but won't stay up till midnight as the wife has been on early shift.
I'll have a good drink before & after that match tomorrow.

never remembered that either. once we moved to yorkshire even the first footing thing seemed not a big issue. what finished me off with new year was the millenium. clubs you were a regular and spent money every weekend decided to charge everyone a fiver for half a sausage roll and a sandwich that had been given the last rites a few days earlier. never bothered since.

Funny you should mention the millennium new year, our road was always quiet, but that year collective madness erupted with fireworks........it was like the siege of Hitlers bunker in Berlin....rockets going down the road horizontally, bouncing of cars and houses, then after 15 minutes it suddenly stopped...really odd. Not forgetting the dreaded Millennium bug which was going to devastate life as everything crashed around us, a bit like the woke brigade today.....another flop.
