Just a bit of fun here. Wondering what you all recall about Christmas past from a Poolie perspective. I'll start off with last Christmas which as we all know was virtually cancelled and I (probably not the only one) was down in the dumps but 4-1 Stockport and 3-1 Halifax really cheered me up, I mean seriously lifted spirits. Conversely I remember getting hammered 0-3 at home on boxing day by Bury cant recall the exact year but not that long ago. What a downer. My general feelings about Pools at Christmas have mostly been positive so a heavy loss at home sticks in the memory.

Xmas has always been a blind spot with me and Pools, the only warming match even close to Xmas was the Palace win in the Cup where they whined about penalty..... they never mentioned it was as cold as the Baltic and the pitch ruts frozen.......I’m still warming up now from it.

I guess I must have blocked that from my memory....a bit like childhood trauma, that sort of thing.

In 2010 Pools had a 1 0 win at Huddersfield . The crowd was the biggest that Pools had ever won in front of ,about 21k. Then in 2012 Pools won 3 2 at Sheffield United . It was the shock result of the season . Somebody called Harry Maguire scored Sheffield’s second goal

Ah, the day it seemed like big Stevie Howard's second coming at Pools had finally arrived...
turned out it was still Too Soon.

It's surreal to think until the late 50s games were played on Christmas day. Looking at some of them on the inthemadcrowd the attendances are relatively decent. Final one against York at the Vic, 2-2 draw. Don't suppose anyone on here was there?

You'd have thought some clubs would have tried the novelty of making Christmas fixtures. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I find the novelty of Christmas has worn off well before 1pm, usually after a visit to the in laws, having to eat cold sausage rolls for lunch and coming home to nought on telly other than bland American films.

find the novalty of christmas has gone by late november once the kids get into the early teen grunting stage. its just a festival of spend, spend, spend after that with only the match on boxing day to look forward to. cannot remember christmas day games as i think i only saw one before they were stopped.

I recall as a teen at xmas 75 we were sitting mid table and were home to then top Northampton Town, we unexpectedly beat them 3-0 in front of 5077 fans, in those days you would play boxing day then the next day also, we played Workington away winning 2-1 and moving up to 8th, next game of course was the Man City drubbing in the Cup, followed by 13 games without a win.

I was at that Workington game. McMahon and Moore with a screamer and then it was like the Alamo with Workington desperate for the points to stave off relegation. Former Poolie favourite Mally Dawes scored for them and Pools just about held out. Happy days. One of the very few away wins I have witnessed following Pools. Goes without saying I have witnessed many a hammering.

Canny ground Workington! Don't think it's changed much since 1975 either

it has changed but not for the better. lots of it has been knocked down since those days and is just about recognisable. very sad.

Remember winning away to Mansfield and bury really comfortably in the mid 90s around Christmas time, the results were a bit out of the blue as we were really crap!

He wasn't the only one !
I remember a load of hooly's, led by a "gentleman of colour" all dressed in white lab coats regularly coming down the steps of the stand to beat seven shades out of anybody who was unfortunate enough to be in the immediate vicinity.
Stewards stood by & did nowt.
