I see the ex Salford & Chester duo are now installed as joint Managers at Spennymoor Town.

A bit of a distance from their homes near Manchester - must be a decent contract then?

Till they get the call from the North West to migrate back to a club at a lower level :!:
It’s in their DNA.

To be fair to them, looking back they did bloody well with money at their disposal. Since Salford have gone through manager after manager, but your right can't see them being their for years.

DC suddenly disappears......and is found like a contented homing pigeon in Chester!

You mean Stockport won't be in the Premier league by then???

In all seriousness I doubt Spennymoor will ever make the EFL

Nah ...they’ll be in the Eurolotsofdosh League then with Spennymoor Goliath’s, Foret Verte Vagabonds and Ville de Harrogate.

well 20 years back who would have thought fleetwood, salford, forest vegans and harrogate would with bury plying their trade below northern league standards. nothing would ever surprise me with football nowadays.

The thing that's missing from that list - and you could go way back further into the mists of time with the likes of Hereford becoming a Football League club - is any team from the North East breaking into the EFL. It feels even less likely than England winning a second World Cup.

Just by getting their League status back Pools were bucking a very long trend. The old Darlo did it too but couldn't hold onto it, and we know where they are now.

It would be great to get a proper Football League derby. Can Gateshead do it even with the handicap of their horrible ground? Somehow I doubt it.

The Brewery field has struggled with segregation in the past, Darlington fans know all too well what I'm talking about. They had York there a few months back and it was pandemonium.

The ground literally has no parking whatsoever. Although they have now opened a nearby wasteland for parking I'm not sure how the EFL would feel about that.

I think If Spennymoor got to the EFL they'd be the least populated town to have a club?

FG Vegans beat them hands down. "The New Lawn Ground is situated on the western edge of the picturesque Cotswold town of Nailsworth."

Nailsworth has a population of 5,794. I live in a village that's almost as big as that!

but they,d be closer to larger towns that the vegans now are and workington in the past. think they,d end up like a lot of these new clubs where things would be fine at the start and continue whilst the club was overperforming. once a struggle starts that would be it as the majority of these fans and clubs do not know what a struggle is and are unprepared mentally as well as financial for that day.

They're so forgettable I forgot they existed

I'm sure I did hear though that Harrogate was the smallest town to have an EFL club. I guess the fact I believed that shows how small they are.

All these hobby clubs have a life span the length of the owner’s interest. You can’t get too comfortable supporting them because they can disappear in a ‘puff of boredom’ on the owners commitment in a very short time....there’s no history, no background to survive with those gates unless copious amounts of cash are being pumped in.

Rushden & Diamonds spent £30m on their ground development in the 90s.

Club defunct 2011

Stadium razed to the ground 2017

I've got lots of things to do thanks very much, it only took me about 7 seconds to write my above 11 words. It would take me probably ten minutes to explain to you why Darlington are not a "phoenix club" but I get the impression that your mind is well and truly closed re this topic.

I wonder who knows more about it though? Me, or you?

Hmmmmmmm.

I come on this board occasionally to see what's happening at HUFC and I have no 'vendetta' against anyone.

The rest of your post is just infantile goading and not worth bothering with, apart from noting that you don't know what a capital letter is used for.....

If you read back on my posts, you’ll see no goading or vendettas going on with me, so you’re either mixing me up with someone else or supplying ‘banter’ because that’s the way you roll.

Originally I came on here to communicate with someone called (I think) pjpoolie, who was being a knob on here and on our message board too. I think he’s been banned from this forum now but I could be wrong.

Anyway, the point I made above was that DFC are not a phoenix club, that’s all - Christmas greetings to you :)

its just they lost their ground unlike chester and halifax who were in a similar position didn,t. can go back further and if my memory is correct didn,t the boro and bristol city both pack up and then re form under new ownership but kept their league status. none of these clubs actually had a gap in not playing any games at any level.

Indeed. Although knowing someone from there I'd be shocked if It ever will have one.

It's just a place that isn't a football place. Although, I once had that same view about places like Cheltenham and Harrogate

The thing with Guildford is that you’re just a short train journey away from multiple top level clubs.

For a 202500 population support is abysmal.

So? Support your local club. Too easy for some ‘flexible’ supporters...”now which shirt am I wearing today in the pub?”

Think that's got a lot to do with their matchday experience being abysmal. Gateshead Stadium is an athletics venue. It's useless as a football ground.

The only thing I can think of that was as bad is the Shay at Halifax when there was a dog track around the pitch.

I hate the place, a god forsaken windswept experience, bit like playing football on an airfield. They need a ground, mind you, when the Geordies have infected your fan base it could be an uphill struggle. Trouble with Gateshead is the neighbours overshadow everything you do, bit like Salford with Manchester.

A lot of people say Gateshead will never attract a large fan base with Newcastle so close, yet South Shields is just as close and manages fine.

I've spoken to many Gateshead fans, and even the most ardent of supporters admit the International Stadium is far from perfect. Despite the large capacity it definitely holds the club back.
