Has to be our return to winning ways at home - i predicted we would get through the cup games with wins, ill predict a Cullen brace and Holohan to get back to scoring ways. Pools 3-1

I will be delighted with a scrappy 1-0. My intuition as a long standing Poolie is that after two excellent results we are a due a poor one. Hope I am wrong.

true and its another world to the early and mid 80,s where different rochdale players and managers hated coming to the vic even after playing on a windy spotland mud bath.

Surprised we haven't got more attacking options on the bench. Hell of a lot of midfielders in there !

Thought you could see the game plan was to try ping balls at Rochdale’s back line and in the main it didn’t really come off. Far from pretty and the Dale played the far better football.

Scraped a very important win so can’t complain really though.

We were lucky tonight, very lucky but I'll take it.
If we are going to play the long ball stuff we need someone up front that can handle it.

After our dire run of defeats, we’re still only seven points behind fourth place.

Possibly due to Rochdale tactic also, the press was non existent which was a hallmark of our team for some time. Interesting to see how we go Saturday

Rochdale should have won but didn't so I'm happy. The ref worried me during injury time as if he was waiting for a Dale equaliser. A welcome 3 points but is it Scunny on Saturday? Don't think we have a good record against them.

Well we got out of jail with that, pretty dire stuff in the second half, I'm hoping that's not a sign of things to come, anyway the win was everything tonight, but we have to be better than that Saturday, if the tactics were let Rochdale have 5 yards of space in the midfield and sit off them, then this could be a long season ahead.

Eddie Kyle mentioned rumours flying around that Tony Sweeney will be joining Challinor's coaching staff at Stockport.

Still only a rumour, even if it's repeated on the BBC!

Footballers and coaching staff have mortgages and bills to pay like everyone else and with a boss who has made it clear that he is keeping a tight rein on spending, the prospects of minimum pay rises is not helping with the retention of staff.

yes and thats the problem and the reason DC signed fondop who also failed. we have played far better than that and came out of it with sod all. cannot see the ref being worse on saturday whoever he is. blatent penalty turned away and if one of their players had shot moly he,d have played on. you can realize why they do not get sell outs at spotland if they have to watch their brand of boreball every game. watched it on the iplayer thing but it was actually about 4 minutes behind the game. her indoors had the cheek to tell me shelton had scored in 90 plus 2 when i was watching the 88th minute. another day of silence ahead for me.

Last night's tactics could be the reason Sweeney is contemplating whether he wants to be a part of the "new team". If the rumours have any sort of foundation that is.
Hoofball, conceding possession, no pressing, no sign of any sort of passing game etc are not Sweeney's cup of tea.
Once or twice the players seemed to forget their "instructions" and strung a few passes together, as they are used to doing.
It looks like playing it out from the back has been frowned upon as well, which some would argue needed to be addressed.
The referee was atrocious. Wasn't he the one that played on at Bradford whilst Molyneux was laying motionless?????

Rochdale were unbeaten in 8 games.
Maybe Spike saw a way to beat them that no other manager had spotted.

I wasn't at the game so perhaps this is a too positive spin on things but just well chuffed for the win.

but it never is playing out from the back even when teams insist on doing it. its just the keeper tapping it out to a defender and two square passes later it get hoofed upfield anyway that the keeper could have done in the first place. the ball would have come straight back anyway with so little height and muscle up front.

Whatever way we played last night it clearly didn't work, I dread to think what forrest green would of done to us playing like that. A win papers over the cracks, mind you I'd take the same outcome Saturday. We are a decent team on our day at home, let's be positive and show Scunthorpe we are, the way we respected Rochdale last night you would of thought they were top by 10 points, they weren't very good when you actually had a go at them.

I’d prefer it if Mr Kyle would stick to commentating instead speculating. True or false, it creates a constant background of doubt and concern, which we don’t need.

I listened to Hignett on Tees talking with Kyle. Hignett said the chairman was ambitious but would do things in his own way. And that the playing budget was decent. There wasn’t any substance to what Kyle was saying. He was just putting 2 and 2 together. People have left it’s true but as a club we don’t really seem to have a problem recruiting.

Spot on and the reason is why? 3rd top midweek attendance in league 2 this week, yet we don't appear to be able to hold onto anything, who's next to go?

Raj technically should have a war chest for Jan recruitment.

- Suit Direct Name rights Circa
- Sale of one GK to Leicester City
- Compensation for the Snake and Clint Hill
- FA Cup Run
- Pizza Trophy Run
- 5500 fan Fortnighly/Weekly Gates when playing at home
- The sale of Chips

lets just see how ambitious he really is

So Sweeney is going to leave on last nights performance?
Yes it was poor, but at Lincoln we were excellent.
What if future performances are more like the Lincoln game.
And yes it was the same ref who let Bradford kick Mols all over.
Also turned down a stonewall pen when Grey was shoved over in the box.

Manager, assistant, last year's players, physio, staff with years of experience, the list goes on Yes some have perfectly plausible reasons for wanting to leave, but don't even you find it strange that we seem to have a real problem holding onto anyone at the moment?

Regarding the tactics last night, seems some think teams should roll over for us.
Rochdale had lost only 5 games before last night, Propper mugs them.

And it has not taken long for the negative lot to start typing away.

Roll on saturday.
