Well done the team. Cheered me up no end after a couple of weeks of doubt.

A great work out for the reserves (and a few gaining match fitness) for the new boss to watch and assess his squad.

I understand the draw is on Saturday afternoon on Sky.

crawford......certainly a player there for sure.....

yes and the best player on the pitch for me. never thought i,d ever say that as i was never a fan of his. actually involved in the game and not just making up the numbers. if he continues like that and improves well be lucky to keep him in the summer.

After last nights performance we deserve a home draw with whoever we want.

I think we would prefer to avoid Rotherham and Wigan. Home draw against Oldham be decent.

That's what Sunderland thought  It would be ironic if we got Oldham, when it could have been Sunderland, but it'll do.

Was thinking the same as well, that's Hartlepool's luck, would like home draw.

If only someone could get him to show some aggression when he's actually on the pitch that would be a big step forward

ideally it would be great for rotherham and wigan to play each other to get rid of one of the better teams left. mind you if pools lose there game it will not matter much.

very biased reflection on the "big daddy" incident" below...actually think paterson tried to headbutt fondop with the rear of his head during proceedings tbh.....our fondo was just trying to protect himself from paterson...... who was rolling around on the floor as if he had had an electric shock!!!....shame the bout does not seem to have been covered by any video playbacks for others views on it...

more unhappy owl commentary from owlstalk.............

morganowl......" we got hammered at home by a team in league 2 who are totally out of form and no wonder there fans were taking mick out of us ."

morganowl ......."hartlepool league 2 , lost last 5 league games , have the worst away record in england only 4points all season yet come here with us fielding a line up what should be able to blow them away and thrash us. there are some players i dont want to ever put the shirt on again ."

proul......."Most of those players thought that was going to be a stroll in the park, in a nothing game in a nothing cupand that they could beat the opposition without getting out of first gear. They wanted to stroll around giving it the big I am. When it didn't turn out that way they couldn't up their game.Dreadful and disgraceful doesn't do it justice."

daavies......"I said this on twitter. That was by far, the worst 45 minutes I have ever seen a Wednesday team have at Hillsborough. They looked like 11 players that were all hungover trying to play a competitive match on a Sunday morning. I've had more painful defeats of course, but I could not believe just how little effort, or ability, we showed. It was disgraceful asking young Brennan to be the only CB in a back 3 along with Patterson and Brown. We made an extremely poor Hartlepool team look like Barcelona from 09' and 4-0 at half time would not have flattered them.."

and more from examinerlive a local rag.....

"Fan taunts
It is fair to say the Pools fans enjoyed their first visit to Hillsborough in nine years. Around 400 Hartlepool fans made the trip to South Yorkshire.
And they were in fine voice as their team raced into a two-goal lead. They gave Joe Wildsmith plenty of stick every time Wednesday attempted to play out from the back.
Cries of 'cheerio' and 'can we play you every week?' could be heard from the away end in the final quarter as the visitors comfortably saw the contest out"

"Fondop-Talom's antics
With four minutes remaining, there was a bizarre flashpoint when Wednesday skipper for the evening Callum Paterson was flattened by Hartlepool substitute Mike Fondop-Talom following an aerial duel.
Fondop-Talom clearly tried to wind up Paterson and put the big Scot into a headlock on the ground. The striker refused to let go of Paterson for several seconds, wrapping his arm around his neck.
Paterson was left fuming with Fondop-Talom as both teams clashed.
Wednesdayites booed referee Andy Haines' decision to dish out a booking to Paterson following the scuffle. Fondop-Talom was also cautioned.
Paterson can feel extremely hard done by as he did nothing wrong. It was utterly ridiculous that Haines punished him.
After the full-time whistle, Fondop-Talom was jeered by a number of Owls fans in the lower tier of the South Stand as he walked down the tunnel to go back into the away dressing room."

just wonder if any words from the crowd were directed at fondop before he came on as he was warming up. did play for a local team chesterfield and could have been wound up before he came on looking for anything. i know i have been like that when i played and i,m sure others were or are the same.
