Woking forum is mentioning Pools will be taking Alan Dowson away back North. I’ve calmed them down. I like him but not yet managed a full time team. Doing well down here. Leave him be for a while..

Is Arthur Cox still alive? If he were to get the job the the NW terrace lads could enjoy chanting "Cox Out" if he didnt do a good job.

think its a big case of people you do not want anywhere near pools than those you want. keep having nightmares of stuart mccall being announced.

Maybe he's happier these days as an Assistant Manager? It's 7 1/2 years since his last permanent manager role, and that didn't end well - nor the one before.

From Wiki:

Barker was appointed manager of Crawley Town on 7 August 2012.

On 27 November 2013, Crawley Town terminated Barker's contract with immediate effect. At the time of his dismissal Crawley had not won any of their last seven games, scoring just once in those games.

On 9 December 2013, Portsmouth announced Barker as their new manager with Steve Coppell being appointed as director of football. Barker was sacked on 27 March 2014 after 20 games in charge. At the time of his dismissal Portsmouth had not won any of their last six games, scoring just once in those games.

Poor appointment if true - isnt he the U23 coach at Newcastle (must live local which makes sense him being linked to us).

apart from getting Wigan promoted he has had a pretty dire Coaching career.

There was a game at Darlo once v Fulham, back in 91 I think. The Fulham manager was Alan Dicks. You can guess what the Fulham fans were chanting as they were losing.......

Roy Race player manager and assisted by Blackie Grey. Failing that Ma Robinson from Thatchem United fc. She would sort out any disciplinary probs with her brolly. Failing that someone who is prepared to "buy into the project" accept minimal wage and have no leeway for new signings and will be expected to challenge at least for the play offs and who will probably f off to Horden CW for higher wages in three weeks after signing a contract in The Princess Helena. Seriously? Haven't a clue and don't think anybody else has either.

Any new manager coming in now will experience the same "hands tied" situation that TS is under at the moment. No strength in depth. Have we actually got a first eleven and bench capable of doing well in this division is a question being asked. On current league form it would appear not.
So a potential new manager, especially one who is comfortable in his current situation, will think twice, at least until January. Raj will have to excel with the silver tongued promises to shift people in that category. That leaves the lucky dip bag of out of work failures to choose from.

he seems to be one of those managers who clubs turn to on a regular basis. he works fine for some but equally has been a disaster at others. can see the next sacking to be steve evans at gillingham. another with a mixed career but would love the chips at the vic.

I think we need someone of Grayson's experience. Not as long term successor to DC by any means but someone to bring in that would get us winning games again. Has contacts for the January transfer window to possibly bring in some decent players and also would have the experience and backroom staff i think to see us to safety. If he does half a decent job then give him the extension for next season too.

Not sure what Sweens was thinking last night starting Crawford. Our midfield needs a major overhaul. Mols and Cullen are starting to gel and given some better service through the middle i dont think we will struggle for goals. Culls scored last night and i think it was marginally offside - other match officials would have given it tbh.

Our last five league matches have been against teams currently in the top half of the table. We won one and lost four but last night and the Newport game could have been draws at least. Our next game is against a similar side near the top. After that we have games that could see us winning again. I don't think we are that far off, just lacking a bit more quality and hopefully that will be put right in January. Two strikers, a creative midfielder and a commanding central defender should be the minimum plus Burey back and we should be able to compete with the high and mighty.

Sounds like we are looking at managers at clubs who probobly don't pay their managers particularly great wages, woking, halifax and Borehamwood. Why do I get the feeling we will be scraping the barrel again in the next transfer window too,

He replaced Shelton, who you also don't rate. Crawford was decent last night, always prepared to get on the ball and his distribution was good. The problem is he's a bit of a Featherstone clone. What Pools don't have is a strong running midfielder like Jonny Williams; he was a handful all night and deserved his goal.

Pools did well to get Tyler Burey on loan till his injury but Swindon hit the jackpot with Tyreece Simpson. Only 19 and went through Liddle and Byrne as easy as anything for his goal. Fortunately there's plenty of poor teams in League Two as well as the likes of Swindon and FGR.

I know who he replaced - i just dont know why a player who never featured under DC, rarely creates anything was given a start against a team who are doing really well with very good MFs of their own ie. Jonny Williams exactly - played his football at a higher level most his career (welsh international) and showed us why ! Swindon lucky to have him tbh. if anything it should have been the job of Crawford to man mark him out the game and give him some aggro (unfortunately hes miles away from any of this and its something we need just now more than a striker IMO) ! like stated, a strong running midfielder who can create aswell as break down. Shelton does the bare minimum most the time - hes only in the team cos we have nowt else, this most agree with on the terraces. Feaths needs a rest and Smith doesnt lace his boots either. Another Injury / suspension to Lidds or Daly and we are right up shit creek !

I wouldn't be too interested in Dowson but wouldn't say no either.

That said, I wouldn't touch the duo at Chester with a ten foot barge pole. They've always came across as talk the talk, but don't walk the walk.

It's looking now like Sweeney's job

This is the quietest the club have been in between managerial departures for a long time. No solid rumours - feck all. I know the bookies have names on the wall but even those dont seem nailed on rumours. Just literally some nAmes picked and whos available. Weird. Something from Raj or the COO would be nice to let us in on the candidates if any and how the search is progressing. As much as im a fan of Sweens he isnt a manager and wont be able to bring in the players we need come January.

Pools are crying out for a big defensive midfielder who is good in the air and wins more of the tackles than he loses. For me thats been as big a problem as lack of a good forward. With someone like that in midfield along with the ball players we have got we may be better suited to scraping out results.

Williams was with us [Charlton] for a couple of years until he joined Cardiff in January, played a couple of games for them & was released on a free & joined Swindon in September.
His first club was Crystal Palace & he played in the premier league but was very injury prone, he also was loaned out to Sunderland, he featured in the first Netflix documentary on them, but once again played very few games due to injuries.

Any new manager at pools will probably want to avoid the next weeks fixtures, because let's be honest good chance we will lose the lot. Start at home hit the ground running.

Raj most probably waiting till after Lincoln game.
Money spinning 3rd round draw could be a game changer for the rest of the season.
We live in hope.

its obvious now we need a better keeper in between the sticks - something i thought DC was going to sort coming into L2.

Fondop needs to be gone and hoping hes on short term contract - Fela just needs more game time as he can hold the ball up well and knows what he wants to do. Not exactly a poacher in the box but im sure with the right coaching from a good manager / backroom staff could be half decent at this level (not forgetting isnt he only 23). But this doesnt take anything away from the fact we need a propa No.9. Tshimanga or Quigley ( preferably both) would be perfect for us just now, or players in their mould at least.

Any potential manager would want to get started as soon as possible. Can't imagine a situation where they'd look at the fixtures and say ooh maybe in week or so time.

I think Raj's experiment to stall a bit, possibly to see if Sweens could handle the job full time, has run its course now so I'd be surprised if an external appointment wasn't imminent.

Williams was mentioned as appearing on the Sunderland Netflix documentary, I believe Grayson was also on there and was the dullest person I've ever heard speak. Please don't link him to Pools.

Have to be a player in their mould, because no way are either Tshimanga or Quigley going anywhere unless ridiculous money is offered.

I think Quigley would jump at the chance to join Pools. Big club with obvious ambitions far higher than the bunch of shyte I support who languish in the national league, where we have been for what it seems like an eternity.

Money and length of contract, same as any other professional footballer. You must be delusional if you think Stockport is the height of a player's ambitions.

10 seasons and counting since you were a football league club. We'll all be laughing our socks off come May if the Messiah can't stop it from becoming 11.

Why are you concerning yourselves with little old Hartlepool? Shouldn't you be more concerned with teams more on Stockports level? Like PSG, Bayern Munich and Curzon Ashton?
