Went for petrol Wednesday teatime and bought a Mail for the match report.
Basically, there wasn’t one. I searched cover to cover and found nothing. I even checked the page numbers (rather sadly), but there was nothing there. Why?
So, it appears our ‘local’ paper is anything but local. Pathetic

The online version of the Mail is Ok for Pools coverage though can be "buggy". I seem to recall the player ratings for the Newport game only had eight players in it. They also tend to publish the same story multiple times with different headlines with a couple of words changed in the intro. I live miles away from Hartlepool so I rely on the online Mail and forums like this to keep in touch with the goings on at pools.

It's produced in Sheffield and last time I checked was written in Sunderland. Its a pretty dire paper. Most of it is bland editorial filler copypasted from other websites that are related to the Reach PLC group.

Used to buy it daily, but haven’t bothered for a few years now. They are the masters of the catchy front page headline and you open it up to find something written by someone who has never visited the place in their life and has no idea what’s going on.

It's been a waste of time and trees for the last 30 + years!

It is the way of the world. The Internet killed or led to the slow death of the printed newspaper. It is amazing there are still so many in existence.

The demand for instant news and stories leaves the day behind print needing features and life guides or old history to keep them going.

Even the advertising has dwindled and though most local papers are now written in Sheffield it is amazing ithe Mail is still clinging on to it's older readership.

I stopped buying it when they kicked me out of the Chipper Club for being too old.
I know a friend of mine who kept on reapplying as a 5 year old whenever he got to 15 (?). Kept it up for a few decades i understand.

There wouldnt have been one due to fact it goes to press before kick off, As someone said it printed in Sheffield and can no longer be called the night mail as used to as it can be bought with your morning paper nowadays

Remember the sports mail?

I used to wait for them to be delivered to the papershop on the way home from a pools game.

Yep every Saturday Pools won or drew I'd be down to the papershop waiting for the Footy Mail. There was usually a few punters all waiting for the van. With no net it it was the best way to drink in the events of the football world (not just Pools) on a given Saturday. Could never bring myself to buy it when we lost.

Aye, waiting outside the paper shop with a little group of fellow ‘addicts’ waiting irritably for our fix of that little green gem.
There was the letters page, which was about as close as we got to social media and they were nearly always very boring uncontroversial little scribblings of no consequence.. There was NO real information, just the the footy Mail and the annual one off visit of ‘Shoot’ when we were on the telly and famous for ten minutes, the absolute pinnacle of the year.

surely it could be printed more locally. the evening paper in bradford, the telegraph and argus is available in the morning but will have a report on the bradford city games played the night before. anyway i used to buy a copy every time i came up but have not bothered for years now. like many local papers they are a pail imitations of the past.

This is what gets me....we live in an age of instant communication yet 50 years ago with what was basically Victorian technology they could have the footy Mail on the streets before 6 pm for all matches home and away.
It’s just an advertising sheet now.
