memories of vikings past....

"The recent arrival of Rune Lange got us here at Vital Hartlepool reminiscing about previous Norwegians who have worn the blue and white shirt.
The most famous is Jan Ove Pedersen who made 20 appearances for Pools in the 97/98 season. He joined from Brann Bergen to keep fit during the Norwegian winter break and dazzled fans with a string of great performances.
The Norwegian with the most appearances for Pools is Martin Hollund. The keeper played 133 games for Pools before losing his place to Anthony Williams in late 2000. He went on to play for Lov-Ham and Fana in his native country.
Other, perhaps less successful, Norwegians to play for Pools are Stig Olav Larsen, Tim Sperrevik, Thomas Tennebo and Rune Vindheim who all made appearances around the end of the last century and the start of this one.
In fact, there have been many occasions during the year 2000 when Pools starting 16 featured 3 Norwegians."

Thanks for that poolie1. Some good times when IOR were in charge too. The Vikings have been in Hartlepool since the 9th century, loving the Headland after our pirates entered loving the local haunts and enjoying the craic. Some memorable players there, cheering on the lads still I’m sure!

Saturday Night / Sunday Afternoon

Pop up to Seahouses and see the Artic Walrus - bit like the Vikings and a few miles away from home, in this case the Artic Circle

Probably built some other good stuff though, Tennebo was my favourite Norwegian player.

Pederson was a superb player. Nothing like Featherstone.

Every person on this board could pick their own all time best Pools 11 and player for player they'd be better than anyone in the current Pools side.

Nowt to do with 2021 and the current price of fish though, is it? UTP

That statement is a bit vague, are you saying Fetherstone is better than Pederson?

and the teams we would pick could also be crap if they all played together. comparing squad to squad is the only way to do it.

docherty...for clarity...hope you dont think for one minute i'm attempting to put feathers in the same category as pederson....the "with steroids" comparison was meant to be light-hearted.....having said that i do rate feathers......but if you could give feathers a drug which would somehow give him..... the acceleration of a 100 metre sprinter....the vision, confidence and ability to hit 70 yard passes as well as short passes with pin point accuracy every time....the skill to dribble and glide past a player as if they didn't exist....such complete control of a ball when in possession that it looked as if it was somehow magically magnetically attached to his foot...then yeah...i think there might be some legitimate comparisons between the two...!!!

Aaah. So it's you who made the Pedersen/Featherstone comparison first. :) In that case I owe Mr. Docherty an apology.

Can't say I remember Pedersen being that quick over 100m but he was a terrific footballer. Pity Pools only had him on loan for 20 games. Not much of an impact really when you compare that with Gary Liddle's 328 starts and counting or Tony Sweeney's 385 starts.
