I wonder if in return Darlo have some knackered, legs gone, end of career striker we could have for a month or two.

If you want a goalscorer then Cassidy isnt the answer. If you want a target man to hassle defenders and create chances for others then he is.
Dont know what went on with him at your place, and yes its two leagues below where he was with you, but he gives 100% every game and has been an ideal signing for us.
A few fans were just going off his goal scoring record when he signed, which to be fair is poor for a striker, saying he wasn't the answer. However he has won the doubters over even though he still isn't prolific, just by what he brings to the side.

As for Lawlor, looked decent on saturday. Wouldnt mind him staying longer.

Oh yeah. He's probably better than Fondop. I wonder if we could negotiate a swap?

We had Cassidy in Pools' first season in the National League so only he's only 1 league below with Darlo. He only scored 5 goals all season which says it all really, but I thought he always put in a shift in what was - by a distance - the worst squad of players I've seen at Pools in 50 years as a supporter.

More surprised that Louis Laing has done alright with you. He was truly awful that season for Pools.

there are others still around who did better after leaving pools that awful season. featherstone became a player most want in the side when then no one hardly did. just wonder if the off the field stuff got into the players heads making them worse than they should have been.

I'm sure the players were affected by all the turmoil behind the scenes but too many of them were rank bad signings by Harrison. If you look at the players who started more than 20 games for Pools that season, besides Laing there was the likes Blair Adams, Lewis Hawkins, Scott Harrison and Conor Newton. Rubbish footballers one and all.

Edit: To be fair to Harrison, Lewis Hawkins wasn't one of his signings, he came through Pools' youth system.

I shared your horror......I kept thinking of Laings Oil Rig yard at Graythorp, because I‘ll swear some of those rigs had more mobility than him.
I’ll swear he won a raffle organised by ‘he whose name we cannot speak’ to play for Pools for a season.

Laing did his cruciate last season. He was hit and miss, on his day very good but was always liable to drop a clanger.
Was up against it from day one though as people knew what you lot thought of him so had their minds made up.

I was sat at our match against Dover when we first went down and was aghast at the standard of all the signings, we all sat mouths open at their incompetence and general couldn’t be arsedness. That was the moment I realised we had a problem...a BIG problem.
I can only bought off EBay.

I was one of the suckers who bought a season ticket  7 home wins all season, losing at 'fortress Vic' to the likes of Ebbsfleet, Guiseley and, of course, Fylde.

For a long time we looked nailed on to go straight down to the NLN, which I've no doubt would have led to Pools folding completely.

Somehow we rallied in the last dozen games and managed to finish 15th. Were there really 9 teams in that division even worse than that Pools side? I'm inclined to give the much derided Matty Bates some credit for the turn around.

It was a very strange season, from what I recall no one really dominated it, until one day Macclesfield (who were admittedly decent) won it. I think Macclesfield won the league losing ten games? Can't be many champions with records as inconsistent as that and they immediately struggled in the EFL.

As for teams worse than Pools, i know for sure Torquay, Solihull and Guiseley were very poor sides that season. All the more shambolic the Guiseley game at the Vic. A truly spineless joke if their ever was one.

After that first game it dawned on me that even this wasn’t our level. That really cut.

i watched in horror that season at the first few starts Laing managed to muster he must have lost every header. His decision making and passing was that of Wearside standard. How we are where we are now after that is a miracle tbh.

The goal we conceded against Guiseley when Louis Laing went for a routine interception, slipped on his arse, their lad went through and scored with Laing beating the floor in desperation is stuff of nightmares

bit cruel there. Laing was as good a header of the ball as any pools player ever was but only when he had no one to mark. If the then owners and harrison had stayed there was only one way pools were going to go. Spennymoor on a tuesday night.
