No sign of Steve Bruce on that list. Just goes to show the bookies aren’t always right!

Yeah alright. Like most other comments I've made, I've got that one wrong as well.

Never before has the entire cast of a film (The Grateful Dead) applied for a football managers job.

The Mail has a slightly more plausible list. Though they were having a laugh when they tagged Phil Brown and Ronnie Moore on at the end

I've heard Dave Challinor the Stockport Manager has thrown his 'hatter' into the ring...

Glad others are thinking of John Hughes. He had a bad deal last time. Had he stayed I doubt that we would have left the EFL. Every manager has at least one bad experience, but looking at his record since he left he has done quite well. He apparently kept Ross County up last season on a short term contract.

Something to consider, if this drags on a bit, Sky Bet pay out on caretaker managers taking charge of 10 games.Could be money to be made from Sweeney, even if he doesn't get it full time.

Sweens will be in till Xmas they wont rush into this one - dont forget we now have 3 Directors (plus Jeff) plus a COO. Hopefully the new COO has some contacts from his prem days.

Personally I don’t like assistants/coaches taking over in the long term. As I have said before Sweeney has little experience outside of Teesside similar to when Micky Barron took over. Will he have the contacts to attract players to Pools. At the present time we were just waiting for the January transfer window as I believe we all know we are still short of three or four players.

Richie Barker would be a good shout also, happy to see Sweeney do well for us first and foremost though.

Not sure I follow the logic of that. Coming over to Hartlepool was the first time Challinor had ventured out of the North West as a player or a coach. That didn't stop him signing players from all over the country - but signings from the bigger clubs in the North West were conspicuous by their absence.

If Sweeney gets the job based on results, it's down to how he good he is at selling the opportunity when he's trying to sign players. Plus, there's nothing to stop him bringing in a coach who's had a more varied time in his career in football.

What about the two Steve's -
Bruce & McLaren ? Both live locally - ish, so shouldn't be the same problem as we had with our previous manager & his last assistant.
(Apologies, can't find a tongue in cheek emoji ).

James Rowe would be a very good appointment for me. The wonders he did at Gloucester City and then the turnaround when he turned up at Chesterfield (given he has cash to spend). I think he could very much steady the ship and see us stay in L2. Was surprised to see Clint Hill there last night, not sure why as yes hes part of the staff now but just thought he was Challinors mate etc. Be good to have him stay on in my opinion

Regards Clint Hill, I notice Stockport don't currently have an assistant appointed. I assume it's only a matter of time before he goes.

ramblings are DC No2 will be the Guy from Runcorn Linnets who he had as his No.2 at Fylde. Not too assed as im sure who ever we get will bring or want their own No.2 anyways. Like you say will be a matter of time.

Saying that though i Know JP left for personal reasons but now that DC is back over that way may he persuade him to come work with him at Shitport ?

I had a wedge on Sweens to be next perm manager at 3/1. So undoubtedly Raj will announce a replacement next week

The team spirit was great last nite.
All the lads at. End of game clapping the fans n shakeing each others hands.
Shows they already moved on and commited to Sweeney.
Mite be the cheap option but could well turn out to be the best if hes given the compo money in January to bring in a few decent signings.
Good luck with your bet.
UTP.
This division nowhere near the standard i was expecting so Januarys the time to jump all over that and have a play off push.
UTP.

Challinor was appointed player-manager in the Northern Premier when he was 35. He then moved to Fylde a year later. He didn't do too badly with no experience.

Folk paint Sweens with the "no experience" brush. He's old enough, he's done OK as stand-in, let him do the job, how else is he going to get the experience.

Agree charco. Sweens also has the benefit of working with Challinor for two years so will have an understanding of his methods although I dont suppose copying Challinor is easy. I think Sweens should be given a little time to see how he goes and obviously if it all goes tits up he can be replaced and return to his coaching role.

Pete Wild, Jim Goodwin, Barry Ferguson or Graham Alexander.

I was always bemused by the fact that DC never made Tony his assistant. Was that because he didn't want him to be given any credit. Maybe Tony was a bigger influence than he has been given credit for.
At various interviews with the players, quite a few referred to the gaffer and Sweens when they mentioned the management. I never heard anybody refer to Parkinson.
Just an observation.

Typical bookies get Info someone at game. he was there last night add 2+ 2 together stick him in book. ODDS as low as possible but not too low as not to attract money.

I still like one who I threw in to the hat prior to Challinor getting job. Kevin Wilkin has some experience in NL with Wrexham and Nuneaton. Been at Bracklay since 2015 saved them from relegation and had bulit on ever since, Could had them in play offs but for NLN being cancelled, has won 8 out 10 this season losing just 1 in the league. I know some will say no experience in league but I'd prefer up and coming boss to one who been sacked numerous times.

That's a good point regarding an 'up and coming boss'. Cloughie was young and inexperienced but built a team here that gained promotion after he inevitably moved on.
