"Dave Challinor has this afternoon informed the Hartlepool United Board that he wants to leave and join Stockport County FC.

This follows an approach by Stockport to the manager through his agent during the course of last week, which Hartlepool United were informed of on Friday.

As a club we were disappointed the first approach did not come direct to the club. Also that this was so soon after Dave signed a new three year contract.

We believed we were building something special with Dave and this squad - matched by the magnificent support the team has received, home and away.

Therefore, we declined a request from Stockport for permission to speak with Dave on Sunday.

However, after speaking to him again on Monday, he has verbally notified us of his intention to leave.

Ultimately, it is crucial that the manager of our club is 100% committed to the job. Dave had made it clear he wants to leave.

Coach Anthony Sweeney will take charge of the team for Tuesday’s fixture with Everton and for the immediate future as interim manager while the Board consider its position in relation to this matter."

These words by the club should tell everyone how we all felt. We really did feel like we’d cracked it and something good was really happening, we believed in the bloke...turns out he was The Pied Piper of Hartlepool and we all know that ended.
I feel seriously let down and a right mug at this moment. I don’t know why, but I do.

Cheers, thank you.
Now fuck off back to the national league.

It's all about money, showed how much he wanted to be here when it took him so long to sign a new contract. The fans adored him and will feel bitterly let down, but lets carry on the momentum with the new manager, whoever that may be. I'd be surprised if he didn't try to sign Sterry and Holohan as I understand they have a release clause in their contracts which he will obviously know about.

I’d throw a decent wager on Sterry being there. Less so Holohan.

We all know that the game is full of badge kissers who change their mind as soon as the cash is flashed but I thought DC was different and I've been naive enough to believe his affinity to the club was real. The feeling of being let down is very present but in reality we should know better.
I wonder if his comments about Rhys Oates and the way he left are ringing in his ears.

If the figures that I’ve heard are true re his contract, it’s astronomical and also a one way ticket into financial obscurity for this club. If it wasn’t a drop into non-league everyone would celebrate comprehensively the job he did for us.

It’s business. For as long non-league is a financial Wild West this will happen. At what point does the NL overtake L2 with the amount of players/managers dropping into that division. There’s clearly an appeal - and the appeal is money. I for one did not see this occurring given the way DC has conducted himself as a bloke.

If it is true.
Come on, who’s gonna have access to his private contract. No one on a message board for starters.

We name stands after managers who mean something to the club. I'm afraid DC has just dropped to the point that I'll be disappointed if we name the bogs after him.

I have no doubt that we will never know the financial figures either in Challinor's contract at Stockport or compensation received and I am sure Raj will rinse Stockport for as much as he can get and maybe even Challinor for breach of contract (I'm no solicitor but there must be some kind of breach).

The thing that is infuriating me the most is that this approach was made in the week, last week so for Challinor to have his head turned, made his mind up and then still have the audacity to take charge of the team he has no intention of leading long term and then overseeing our heaviest defeat of the season it just stinks. Bad form from both Challinor and Stockport County.

Yes I am truly grateful for the effort he put in to get us back to the Football League but this turn of events has soured his tenure as Manager of Hartlepool United. It's just a shame.

We move on and Tony Sweeney will get our full backing.

He doesn't have the right ambition for Pools. Let's get a manager who wants to play at the highest level he can.
Back to that shit league for him and he can count his money untill he is begging Fylde of Dover for his next job.

She has alluded to problems behind the scenes which I find completely pointless and frankly patronising.
Either she says what they are or its bs.

We had the most amazing time and met some incredible people. I just wanted to let people know that everything Dave has ever sad about his love for Hartlepool and the supporters was true and he was proud and honoured to be your manager.

We’re all so gutted he’s leaving but I promise you there is more to it than just money. The supporters are what makes Hartlepool United so great and we’re genuinely sorry to be saying goodbye. He's continually said the players should look to play at a higher level than league 2,as he wanted to manage at a higher level.
He then does this,we've all been suckered.

Don't think there's any danger Sterry will follow him. He hated playing in the National League - too many hopeless clubs who don't even try to play football.

I wonder if the problems behind the scenes were Raj demanding DC to explain our Jekyll and Hyde performances.
Her husband and her had us believe that they were committed to the club and loved being here. What they failed to tell us was that they would be off like a shot as soon as the cash was flashed and that they were no different to all the other badge kissers. DC portrayed himself as being desperate to manage a league club and had been grafting for the last ten years to achieve that and then, after a few games in the football league, decided to dive back into the national league for a bag of cash. I hope the first thing DC does is to phone Rhys Oates and apologise to him.

What is intended by that little outburst if not to fuel further speculation against the club and Raj, the same Raj that took him off the dole and recently gave him a 3 year contract. I'm buying no more bullshit from Mr and Mrs Challinor.

DC’s antics have caused enough distress here and now we’re getting this crap.
Just go and never come back, we don’t give a toss about your version of events, he was a hero to us, the key word being ‘was’, now he’s just something we’d rather quickly forget.
What we don’t need is any more ‘versions’ from their perspective, we really don’t care and never will.

Some of the abuse being bandied about is too far on socials. Criticism yes, abuse no.

Challinors fair game to give their view however would prefer it from our ex-manager himself - and in slightly more comprehensive fashion than ‘I know something is wrong but I’m not telling you what it is, sorry and bye!’

Agreed. But we're not going to hear anything while the club is considering it's position. Hopefully, we'll hear more once that process is complete.

Kate's update on Twitter could mean any number of different things - not all of them related to football. Ultimately, only very few people know exactly what is happening. It would be good to know once the dust settles, but in the meantime, we have to move on and back Sweens and the players to the hilt.

I bought a season ticket on the back of how proud and emotional DC was when we got promoted, and yes there was something special building at Pools, and now DC has pissed it all away,... and her indoors saying basically it's nowt to do with DC . F.R.O. and then to shit stir thanks for that. What a shit way to leave our club. We move on UTP

Aye, just hope once everything calms down we can look back with happiness and thank the man for his part in a promotion season which got the club out of the hardest division to get out of.

Equally frustrated here. Gutted that the great man has dropped a division. Top end league 2 or 1 and no issue whatsoever

The time of Kate's statement was poor. Fans are hurting, a post of 'it hasn't anything to do with money' will just get fans' backs up.

If you want to thank the fans give it a few days. Also, it smacks of Dave hiding behind her.
