It's DC's birthday today, so 3 points would be a very appropriate present regardless of the winning margin

No goal threat whatsoever, but we can pass it well inside our own half

Exactly
Our Honeymoon period is over.
Gone up a division with zero improvement to the squad.
Take 3rd bottom now as the next Transfer Window will probably be just as diabolical as the last One.

I thought we looked comfortable first half other than the worldy by Reid.

Unfortunately we had no cutting edge and the result felt inevitable.

Sounded that way. Though Pools would have fared just as badly in an away game in the National League last season without Liddle, Ferguson, Holohan and the leading scorer.

It's a tough patch the team just has to battle through.

Not sure we were comfortable, we passed it around our half with nothing going forward. As soon as we conceded we were stuffed. Poor performance

We scrimped and scraped trying to get the cheapest possible team we could and now we're paying the price. We can't keep winning at home so it's going to be a battle to stay up if were not careful.

BIG mistake allowing Rhys Oates to join the 'mighty' Mansfield.

I've been impressed by the signing of Byrne, but from yesterday's highlights he was at fault with both goals conceded, along with ZFA for the second. No ammunition yesterday for Killip's detractors

before we kicked a ball that was my hope. pools have struggled before with a few important players out and will do so again. the team is still a work in progress and its really the lack of goals and pressure up the top of the pitch thats the main problem. away from home when you have no real threat in the side it gives the opposition more confidence to push on and take extra risks in scoring.

Interesting that Sutton now seem to have found their feet after a poor start. From bottom a few weeks ago they are now above Pools.

What is it with Pools, every team in poor form must be looking to see when they play us knowing it'll come to an end.

Very poor showing up front molyneax not interested Fondup a battering ram but hopeless against the excellent Scott Cuthbert . Cullen looked lively when he came on and should be given a run . Stevenage looked a poor side but still had too much for us . Need to be marking wingers more as too often left wide open at the back . We desperately missed Liddle organizing our defence.

There are a few teams in this division with much bigger problems than us.

I have just been having a sniff around the Mansfield fans forum and they are not a happy bunch. One poster claims that their players were fighting each other in the dressing room BEFORE the match. I really want that to be true.

My hope was for survival this season and I have no doubt that we will achieve that.

Exactly! We would have gained promotion much sooner if we could have beaten all the weaker teams. Opponents twig that we have little up front and gain confidence to have a go.

Liddle a massive miss for us. Shows that we need a long term replacement for
Him also. Wont be the last time hes out this season unfortunately.

I think we should set our expectations a little higher than just staying up, we have shown we are more than capable of doing that. Mid table for me. Realistic should we get a striker scoring goals too.

Mols should have scored aswell. Hes not good enough, something just isnt sitting right with him. Do we change the formation away from home ? Might just have to if this keeps up. I dont think the midfield is winning enough for us either. Shelton went missing and thankfully DC spotted that. Daly isnt the answer to the attacking midfielder woe and i honestly think Gav isnt either. We need a DMF with a decent engine who can make a pass or 2 that will count in the final 3rd

Better teams in the league that will tear us a new one should that team start against them. Unfortunately our B team isnt good enough.

Anyways im confident our home form will keep us up the top half of the table.
My thoughts on Fondop also are quickly changing. Really thought we might have half a decent player on our hands. Guys a donkey at best. Hope hes gone come Jan.

Shelton hasn't had a decent game all season, certainly in the home games. Think this step up is too much for him. Without Holohan we lack a bite in midfield and we desperately need a decent striker.

stevenage may have looked a bad side, but who on pools books would have put their first goal away. who was our last player who could leather a ball with accuracy like that.

I don't agree with that blanket judgement. For me he's had a couple of good games and a couple of indifferent ones at home.

Just watched the Stevenage extended highlights on the OS. Two very good strikes for their goals. Pools' best chances fell to Matty Daly, which says it all really. It's like the early part of last season - Dave Challinor trying different combinations of players up front in practically every game, and none of them coming off.

Incidentally, Pools IFollow has Oldham's entire coverage of their 0-0 draw with us available - clocks in a 114 minutes. Might work as a cure for insomnia.

Burey and Holohan spring to mind, both unavailable atm.

This talk of being happy to just stay up is nonsense. Lacks any sort of ambition, it's also a dangerous precedent for future seasons. Just staying up wont pull in 5000 plus crowds that the feel good factor has bought, despite the club doing nothing to build on last year.

We should be building on last season's success, not weakening ourselves in the hope, we win enough games at home to crawl over the 50 point barrier. This forward situation is nothing sort of a joke and smacks of desperation, a little bit of money needs to be spent in January on a decent forward, or we will lose a hell of a lot more if were relegated again.

problem was the wall was half demolished before it could be built up. would love to know which forward players pools could have realistically signed that they have missed out on. january hopefully will be more interesting than the last transfer period was. its not as if DC knows where the problem lies and he does not ignore the fact.
