The Olympics for me is the equivalent of a compilation album, rather than the best of something, its more a mix of a lot of different things all at once.

The basketball isn't as good as the NBA, the football isn't as good as the world cup, the tennis isn't as good as wimbledon and the skateboarding probably isnt as good as Tony Hawk or whatever his name was.

The time zone and paywall (Eurosports) are another reason I'm not really interested in it.

Many billions for a hop skip and a jump. Mo Farah isn't there now that his drug pusher has been found out.

think many people have turned their backs on the olympics this time. BBC are obviously trying to push it to the hilt but many only watch this channel as a last resort. having kids passtimes like skateboarding does not help. waiting for hopscotch to be added next time around along with railway tresspassing.

Wow, first time in my life Ive agreed with Piers Morgan, saying that no one cares about the Olympics as its overshadowed by Covid. Of course all the usual suspects such as Gabby Logan, Gary Lineker and other BBC presenters are calling him out, I'm sure those presenters aren't on disgusting wages at the expense of the English tax payer.

Meh to the knocking comments above.

Watched the men's triathlon last night, unbelievable stamina on show, young English lad got silver and Jonny Brownlee finished in the first 5 for the third Olympics running.

Also gave the skateboarding a try for 15 minutes but it's fookin dull! As always, I'll watch the track and field events and the amateur boxing and dip into the rest. Agree with Basil about the super well paid professional sports, it's a waste of time having them in the Olympics.

Personally I think Japanese public opinion should have been respected and the Games should have been cancelled again, but they're here now so I'll watch them. Anything's better than The Hundred (TM).

Also nice how Russia have completely evaded a ban on sport. If English teams ever get banned from Europe again, perhaps the FA can send Trafford Satanists, Islington Ammunition, Scouse Birds and Blue Oligarchs!

I saw that on Channel 4 I think it was a few month back. Couldn’t believe it. And on Freesports the world woodcutting championships. Crazy.

a marathon sleeping contest would be exciting. rows of beds of snoring sportsmen and women dressed in their countries pajamas competing who could stay asleep the longest. i for one could be going for gold then. anyone found watching day time BBC prior to the event would face a lifetime ban.

Great battle between GB, Russia and Australia for that 4th place spot in the medals table, changes by the hour.

Many who compete are real sports persons who have sacrificied much simply for the honour to get there.Yes there are some highly paid ones but to the rest I take my hat off to them.

Apparently most get about £15k a year off the National Lottery and that includes some of their training costs. The GB flyweight boxer Galal Lafai has turned down offers to turn pro for the last 2 years to take part in these Olympics - now he's earned himself a gold medal bout on Saturday.

Plus discus Sussex, 3 sports I love to watch but the tv coverage is sketchy at best. We always struggle in the field events and not sure why as there are plenty of big units knocking about in our country.
