It's difficult to pick who we need to win to give us the best option of going for the title or guaranteeing 2nd place. If Torquay win it could kick start a Sutton bad run which they haven't had yet but that would have Torquay breathing down our necks for second spot, Chesterfield are the in form team coming into form at the right time and really are the team to avoid though we still have them to play at home.

It's all getting very interesting and exciting something we haven't experienced in a long time. UTP!!!

With Sutton having to play Barnet twice, I’d say we need them to start dropping points and quick. I’m starting to think a Torquay win would be best option. We could then win our game Saturday be back to having 4 points on Torquay and hope Altrincham somehow prevent Sutton winning Saturday. Torquay have some very difficult games to play. Sutton’s toughish spell is now, with Eastleigh to play away. We will probobly have to go to Sutton and win ourselves anyway.

Tonight’s result will be pointless though whatever happens if we don’t win on Saturday.

i have given up on sutton and catching them. prefer em to beat torquay to be honest and even better if they put a big dent in their goal difference. a kings lynn win would also be nice.

If Halifax fail to win tonight can basically count them out if it, they should have too much to do to catch pools then, Chesterfield dropping points and Notts County failing to win tonight would also be huge for us. Stockport might as well give them the three points now.

All exciting stuff will be watching the scores tonight. Try listening to Sutton Torquay on radio Devon via the BBC website?

It certainly does if we can win Saturday. Notts County and Halifax look like they have blown their chances of reeling us in. If Sutton fail to win on Saturday you would probably make Torquay favourites again. Looks like its between Torquay, Sutton, Pools, Stockport and Chesterfield now.

I wonder if our inferior goal difference will be a factor come the end.

The Woking v Bromley game sounds exciting, now 3-4.

We would be running away with the NL if we had the ability to put away the likes of Kings Lynn in the way Stockport did tonight. So two 'winnable games' are not going to be easy for Pools by any means.

Certainly winnable though - we are top of the league and unbeaten in 13 games, we should be going into these games brimming with confidence..

It’s the games against the bottom teams that has cost us this year, so time we tried to put it right a bit by beating a few of them. We shall see what we are made of in these next two games. No stupid sendings offs and a couple of good wins would set us up nicely for cheaterfield at home.

thats fine, but out of those 13 games how many have been draws and out of those draws how many times have the opposition got the equaliser. i might be brimming with confidence that pools will not be beaten but not actual in their ability to win a game. still to really hammer someone yet this season. scoring 4 against 9 men does not really count.

think even pools on a bad day would have put away kings lynn with the team they put out last night. sold their two main strikers and have apart from a couple really have got an under 23 side now playing mens football.

that makes you wonder if there had been a problem there. sack the manager, sack 5 or 6 first team players and win 4 nil away to a decent team. mind you it could be one of those freek results you get with halifax having an off day and them having 4 shots that all went in.

We have everything going against us for winning the league this year. Only at pools could we end the season with 2 away games, one against a team that could possibly be top. Then the other clubs having the advantage on the last day of knowing exactly what they need to do if we’re still involved. One thing we can do to help our situation is thump a team to get our goal difference up towards these other teams. Going to be a very tough task to win the league, but we can certainly improve our situation if we win these next two. Then the Chesterfield game will be huge.

you can look at not having a fixture the last game of the season could help pools. if someone has to win to overtake us they,ll be in for a tense game anyway and could blow it quite easily. then if we are only in the play offs the team would have a full weeks rest going into the play off game whilst our opponent might be knackered after the exustions of the last game of their season.

Before the season started if you had put forward that we would be in this position in mid-April then I, personally, would have snapped your hands off!

Let’s just keep doing what we are doing and let the other teams worry about us...

We're top of the league and have to be caught. None of these teams will complete the season without a wobble and as above, we just need to worry about ourselves and our own results. Ultimately, we will finish in the play offs at worst. Now most of us would have settled for that last August.

Totally agree. Now has anyone any ideas as to how the play offs and final will be arranged? Who can attend? And where?

I still think it's Sutton's to lose especially as they are still to play Barnet twice (how the fuck has that happened) .. I'd be over the moon with a top 3 finish especially with our current home form.

Sutton have only one win in the last 6 games whereas Torquay have now won their last 4 fixtures. I said on Sunday that a draw would have been the best result for Pools.

Apart from Torquay, the only other teams in the division who've picked up more points than Pools in the last 5 games are Stockport, Chesterfield and Solihull Moors. Unfortunately none of our main rivals still has Solihull to play!

The truth of the matter is that if Pools can keep up their current form they will be very hard to catch, even taking the rivals' games in hand into account. Will need to beat Sutton in our last game of the season and be ready for an afternoon of torture waiting for results the following week.

I'm worried about the Weymouth tapping up the touts and faking their post codes to fill the town end and Mill house terraces. Could be outnumbered.

listening to DC on his pre wealdstone thing there was more than one mention of 1,500 pools fans being allowed into the vic for the weymouth game. therefore its really season ticket holders only. think then non season ticket holders will have one chance and one chance only to see pools this season. thats getting into the play off final wherever it will be played. the mail think leicesters ground being the favourite for this.

In the same interview Dave C is at pains to point out that the switch isn't agreed by Weymouth yet and the game will be played a week Saturday unless they agree to extend their season by an extra week to facilitate Pools' ambitions.

It sounds very much as if there'll need to be a financial inducement from Pools to Weymouth to make it happen - assuming a number can be agreed and it's within the rules!

they could be holding out for extra chips after the game and more southern chilled water.

While we are on a roll I'm not sure about the wisdom of delaying the match. I'd rather go into the last round of matches 4 points clear and 42 played than 1 point clear and 41 played. It puts more pressure on us for that last match. Also Bennet will be able to play next week but will probably not be available for the final round.

there is a good possibility that this is bennetts last game for us today if next weeks game is moved. just cannot see why pools would want to move this game anyway. we are on a run, only two regulars injured and no pressure on the team in the last day of the full season. then we have the extra edge of a week longer rest if the play offs ends up has the only possibility for promotion.

Getting the fans in is the obvious answer to that - 1,500 season ticket holders forked out in advance for a full season and helped keep the club afloat. That trumps any other consideration.

Besides, a home win against Weymouth in front of the fans is an absolute banker, even if it's only in front of 1,500-2,000. If the players are going to feel any nerves in front of the fans, better get them out of the way against Weymouth than in a play-off game that defines our entire season.

doubt the players need to show nerves infront of that number of fans who will just be glad to get inside the vic again. think they,ll be more forgiving any mistakes than normal. like a lot of places the vic is great on a good day but very toxic if things do go wrong.
