Letting my heart rule my head a 3-1 victory, went to Stockport in the early 90s on a Good Friday and saw a superb game that we won with Kevin Poole on his debut putting in a great man of the match display we won that 3-1 so here goes.

On 7th September 1964 me and 6619 Poolies watched Pools beat Stockport 4-3, so I'm going for a repeat performance.

Not sure the old ticker could stand that... unless they go 3 up and Pools bang in 4 on the belt!

ToTheHartlepool 2-1. Johnston and Armstrong. Live stream crowd 4,600 Pools 2,900. Watch out Sutton or your seeds might just be germinating too early and be killed off by frost.

Its a big family day for me today. Me and my lad on the opposite sides of the fence. He,s a bit luckier than me so i,ll go for a 3-1 defeat and not answering my phone for days like he did earlier in the season.

My fear is we'll get the first goal & then sit back & try to defend it. Never comfortable with Pools trying to do that. Would take a point right now.

Totally agree with that Johnny. Must admit that Stockport is an away day that I really miss - Robinsons ales and some awesome memories - like that Gordon Watson goal!!!!

Thanks Barry! But this is the point - Cyril had built a strong squad - not just a team - and every player contributed. So, yes, Kevin Poole made a contribution - as did the others. Particularly my feet!

This one is as cagey as you'd expect it to be. So far so good, but no Oates and Ofosu the only attacking player on the bench. What's happened to Bloomfield?

We deserved the 3 points, my heart sank when Donaldson came on, but I would have taken a point before the game.

With you....Donaldson frustrates me....but I'd have taken a draw at kick off. Two decent teams, think we edged it. Not that exciting, but decent football.

Another great performance away from home and a fair result in the end - unstoppable volley from their £250,000 striker for the equaliser.

Pools again had good performances all over the pitch but the real credit goes to Dave Challinor and the coaching staff for getting the side to a point where they're so fit and focused they're a match for any side in the division.

Pools do need though to take advantage of the extension to the window for loan signings. No Oates today and not much in the way of attacking options on the bench. If Oates and/or Armstrong miss many of the games that are left we could struggle the way Torquay are without Danny Wright.

Game turned when Cardwell came on. Its a shame they didn't follow their pundit's thoughts and take Madden off. Oates was a big miss today.

Their ‘pundit’ was ‘John Whelan’ who relentlessly accused pools players of cheating, feigning injury and even questioned his own manager’s decisions throughout. For that, liquidate Stockport immediately

Next months fixtures.
The five 5/6 teams below us have to play each other.
So obviously points will be dropped.
I'm confident enuf that Pools will take advantage of this and go on to finish in top 3 bfor the Sutton game.
3900 fanatical poolies in Vic for the semi final will/should play a major part in getting to Wembley.
Then hopefully the best fans non League has ever had never have to endure this shit,/tinpot league ever again.

He more than frustrates me. Anybody but him as far as i,m concerned. I call him the Night Watchman as in cricket. Once he comes on its like shutting up shop and taking what we have. Apart from the goal i cannot remember their keeper making anything but routine saves. Missed oates and molyneux still not firing on all cylinders. Hope sterry,s injury is not too serious as he seemed to pull up at the end of that run he had.

If we could have swapped benches with them we,d have won the game. Need a couple of attacking options signed sooner than later. Their sub cardwell is on loan from Chorley to the end of the season who made the goal. Surely there is someone from say york, speenymoor or gateshead who could put in a good shift for pools on loan.

If Ofusu had been brought on earlier maybe he could have fashioned something, he definitely has the pace, if Liddle, who was outstanding btw, had taken that headed opportunity in the second half when we were pressing rather than heading it back inside (ala' Donaldson earlier in the season) we would have won that game. Why is that some of the more experienced players would rather delegate a chance to someone else than show the confidence to have a go themselves.

same as passing on the edge of the penalty area when there is a shot on goal available. is it lack of confidence or that they have not a decent hard shot on target in them. could be a bit of both and you do not need to spend 250k like they did on the player who got their equaliser. i,ve seen similar goals in local football and surely pools can find someone who could bulge the net from the edge of the box like our opponents seem to do.

An excellent point and more importantly, two points that Stockport never gained which could be vital come the last game of the season.

Incidentally, Sutton play Torquay on the final day.

A great point and maintained the gap between us and Stockport. I think I would have put Ofusu on earlier as somebody suggested plus Williams to thread a few down the channels for Claudio to run on to. Stockport are building a big squad but it could just spark a bit of unrest among the players left out. I'm not a big fan of rotation as it is in direct contrast to a settled team. I do like that kid on loan from Chorley though and someone like him would create a lot of chances for Armstrong and Oates/Molyneux. Holohan showed glimpses and took his goal well but he and Shelton need to give a bit more. My man of the match was Cass who I thought defended excellently and put a great cross in for our goal and shaded the accolade just in front of Liddle. Killip did everything asked of him and had no chance with their goal.

Donaldson started the home game against Yeovil in February as right wing back. He went off in the 89th minute and Pools got their winner after that! Sums up a miserable season for the bloke - still club captain but not even a certainty for the bench these days, let alone the starting 11.

Challinor hasn't got any favourites when it comes to picking a side. I thought Holahan had his best game for months on Saturday - being dropped for a few games seems to have done the trick.

agree on that. however we had molyneux looking lost and shelton having one of his not turning up games. if we could get all three showing form they are capable of, especially if we do get into the play offs, i cannot see any of the rest stopping pools.

Didn't Molyneux have covid quite early on in the pandemic. If so he could still be feeling the effects, this so called long covid. It was quite easy for Holohan to have his best game for months considering the crap he has been serving up. Still a way to go to get back to where he was. I thought there were glimpses but that's all. Hopefully it is a sign that he has turned the corner. Shelton is hit and miss. It is amazing that with the erratic performances in our midfield that we can still compete for the top spots. Imagine having Tinkler and a young Sweeney in there. One can only dream.....LOL.

As you say Mr Accy, Shelton, Holohan and Molyneux all hitting top form together would certainly make a huge difference. We can only hope.
Maybe reverting to one game a week for the run in (apart from the Easter fixtures) will do the trick.

It's the old saying isn't it - if National League players could perform near the top of their game every week they wouldn't be playing at this level. If Pools do go up at the end of the season it will be fascinating to see Dave Challinor's retained list. Continuity is important, but setting aside the on-loan players, I'm not sure too many members of the current squad should feel confident that they'll be on it.

Would be great to get Armstrong, Sterry and Cass to stay on beyond the end of this season but if we get one out of the three signed up we'll be doing well.

On top of that there could be a few chairmen casting covetous eyes in the direction of DC.

honestly i do not know why he is still in non league football. its not as if he had no success as a manager doing a good job at his two previous clubs, colwyn bay and fylde. with some still getting jobs on past reputations it makes me wonder at times. possibly not being a dick head as a player, joey barton, or a name like darius challononovic or dario challonari may not help.

It's the old saying isn't it - if National League players could perform near the top of their game every week they wouldn't be playing at this level.
even pools have players who more or less play as we expect week in week out. other teams will have similar as well. its just the two plus holohan i have mentioned that you never know from one match to another which one will turn up on the day.

It's incredible when you think about it. It's not as if Challinor hasn't stood by them. If they really have got the can't be arsed today attitude I would expect the likes of DC to get rid. Other players who don't seem to get the same chance must be wondering what they have to do to get a run in the side.

do not think he,s freezing any player out to be honest. the problem is players he has brought in to replace the regulars have done little to warrent extended runs in the side. when everyone is fit the team and bench really picks itself. its so annoying though to see players that we have seen have it in em not performing on a regular basis in the areas we are week on like scoring more than 1 goal a game.
