Frank Worthington has passed away at 72.

Top player, top bloke. Remember seeing him play for Tranmere against Pools in the late 70s.

Remember going to Halifax one time, and he was sat a few seats away. Definitely an entertainer

A real character and a terrific goalscorer. Like all the top players of his era who had a personality, he should have played more games for England.

RIP Frank.

I agree with everything said on here. Frank was a truly great player and a crowd entertainer like Curry, Bowles Hudson and the like. Thanks for great memories so RIP Frank. No great age either.

know him and his two brothers quite well. once you get past the initial showman type of bloke he was quite entertaining in a quieter way with his knowledge of the game and his love of early rock and roll. he had loads of old 78 rpm records from this era. one comment on goalkeepers has never left me. when tranmere manager he was looking for a new keeper. he wanted one who would make no mistakes, save whats expected to be saved, but could not care less if they never saved a penalty or do a world class save. he,d have a problem nowadays for certain. gone now but i,ll never forget him.

That makes you think. Ben Killip has a mistake in him, as he's shown a couple of times this season. Scott Loach was a more dependable all-round keeper for Pools but would have been beaten all ends up by the header down low to his right that Ben somehow kept out on Saturday.

I guess you can argue that for a goalie like Killip the howlers will be cancelled out by the moments of brilliance over the course of a season - as long as he's in form and playing with confidence. Jim Provett was in the same mould.

I wonder what sort of wages they’d be on nowadays.

I don’t really remember him other than by reputation. I think I’ll have a you tube moment and have a look at how good he was.

thats a pity as you,ll only get stuff like his goals and not the full picture of him. he was not just a fancy dan showman but could really look after himself and dish it out himself back in those tough days. saw him getting the better of norman hunter once playing for huddersfield and not too many can say that.
