I don't know what they are trying to achieve. They got what they wanted. Maybe the money was too good to turn down.
My forecast is when the novelty wears off and Harry realises that he is being played like a puppet, he will come crawling back. He is not the first to find himself in this situation and he won't be the last.
They've rejected royalty and that's fine by me, so why aren't they demanding to be referred to as Mr and Mrs (with the probable surname of Markel, after the person who obviously wears the trousers).
The frenzied up media are rabbiting on about the sound of silence from the Palace.
The Queen hasn't lasted this long by trading catty blows with two bit, B fillum American actresses.
She was thrown into the job at a far younger age than MM and is still going strong 70 years later.
I won't mention the race card that certain people always play to re-enforce their extremely weak position. I noticed Harry contacted Winfrey pretty sharpish to stress it wasn't the Queen or her husband who made the remark.( I wonder where Harry got his subsequent advice from which made him quickly decide to remove the Queen from speculation of racism). So why don't they say who it was and let that person defend themselves, preferably in court. Americans don't like appearing in British courts, as that woman who killed Harry Dunn has proved. Suggesting there is racism in the Royal Family without naming the person who they are accusing of racism and without evidence is very convenient but, in reality, it is just point scoring in order to bolster their pitiful attempt to attack a situation that they say they have turned their back on.
Americans may think they are above anybody else but we Brits have a different opinion.
I wonder if MM will play herself in the blockbuster that Hollywood will turn all this in to. They say that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned and she sure as hell epitomises that.
Good luck Harry lad, you have my sympathy but I'm sure you'll find yourself again.

i hardly think the comment can be classed as racial myself anyway. can imagine a similar off the cuff comment has been made by a family member or friend where any parent is of mixed race. even if they didn,t say it they,d be thinking it. its hardly like saying that they hoped the kid would not be black when it popped out. can imagine the parents would also be thinking the same also. one thing is though its another knife into the royal family which for me is a good thing.

I think when the Queen passes on there will definitely be a shift of opinion regarding the Royal Family.
I can see us having a referendum on the matter. The problem with that though is will the losers accept the result.

Good shout Mr Blue. What about Jimmy Crankie, if the SNP would let us have her.
The National anthem would go something like this.....

I have told 500 lies
And I will tell 500 more.

Don't worry everyone the ex military blokes in camel coats and stripy ties will be mustering to agree amongst themselves that the important royals haven't done anything wrong and the royals will be conferring tittles and riches upon them for being in agreement and upstanding.

Self perpetuating greed and lackeyism.

if we had one it would be so stacked in the favour of the royals it would be a forgone conclusion what the result would be. all the big hitters out in force on the side of the royals and those against would get the likes of jeremy corbyn and diane abbott to cock up their cause. the only reason i have never joined the republican movement, you,re beating your head against the wall and you,ll never win. its bad enough supporting pools without another lost cause on your agenda.

Cromwell managed it but that was some time ago. The Lord Protector.

Just for clarity, I'm not seeking a referendum but merely stating I can see it happening.
I do agree that the full weight of the Royalist support would probably tip the scales but I can also see that, within time, demands for at least change to the present system gathering momentum. I think, with the passing of the Queen, more questions will be asked.
I think it will start with the House Of Lords where, if that institution is kept going, the call for elected representation will get stronger.
Then after that the focus and scrutiny on the Royal Family will also strengthen as it will be seen as the last bastion of inherited privilege.
Will it change for the better???? Most of us will be long gone when that question gets answered.

We've got the Queen and Anne. Other than that there is little respect for the rest. I think Kate is developing into a decent Queen but I'd sack the rest. As for Mr Harold Markle - grow a pair. I agree with Derwent, once the queen curls her toes up they've got big problems.

the house of lords is seen by many in its present form as something that needs to get into the 20th never mind 21st century. its not the left but across the board in politics. i know monarchists but no one who supports the present house of lords. yes i,m also sure the country will end all these institutions of the past but anyone over 70 is not going to see all of em concined to the history bin.

What would you replace the royal family with, a Presidential system? That's gone very well in the US in recent years. I don't want another political appointment with a grandee such as Tony Blair or David Cameron as President.

They sell papers and keep Nicholas Witchell busy. Plenty of money comes into the country as a result of people wanting to see them and 'their' (our) properties.

We're seeing two examples of outsiders joining the party - one has adapted (and what a result). The other has either not been accepted or has tried to remain 'independently doing things my way'. Not toeing the party line of a family that gets granted pretty much everything is very short sighted.

They've also inspired 'The Windsors' on Channel 4. Brilliantly funny!

I think Anne would be the best option but obviously Charles is in pole position unless he stands aside for some reason that doesnt look like he too is bailing out.
Whoever it is then needs then to draw a roadmap of reform but somehow retaining the Royal brand that earns some bucks from daft Americans and the like.
IMO the Lords is a disgraceful set up and hopefully any royal reform should be accompanied by reform of the Lords.
But like reform in the slave trade probably the only way to do this is to buy the bastards off as they wont do it voluntary.

Prince Edward's efforts on the Royal Marines commando course must have been a disappointment to you? :)

To be fair, by all accounts he did well and remember the young officers course is a lot tougher than the typical trainee whether than Royal Marines or Army doing the commando course. I talked to one of the instructors years ago at a Falklands reunion do and he was confident he could have passed, He left because he just didn't feel like he fitted in.

they,d still come without the royals. we are still behind france as the most popular european country to visit. actually without em we could overtake france as all the royal properties would be open to view permanently therefore giving a big financial boost to the tourism sector. they could also put a few royal coaches and horses on gumtree if they get short of cash.
