17 goals so far and currently top scorer in LG.1. Nice to see the lad doing well, were we ever in a position to sign him at some point does anyone recall?

Got a lot of stick at Sunderland up until recently. Finally discovering the form he showed at Donny. Like Donaldson when he was on loan at Pools , couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo, though unlike Donaldson at the time, I always thought he might come good, he always worked hard up front albeit to no avail goals wise. Pools probably signed him just that year too early, this was proved when he finally started to find the net at Carlisle a year later. 40 games 6 goals? not the best return, not sure if we wanted to sign him, probably did, but I think at the time Boro like Donaldson at Newcastle was probably expected to break into their first teams at some stage, so I'm guessing wasn't available.

thing is with wyke he looks the part for a start. one of the old breed of players where you know you have had a game with him. followed his career closely and his goalscoring exploits should have been even better than his general play was in games.

He was a good physique even as a young lad playing for us. Despite his poor goals return I think I would've signed him at the time had it been possible. I had forgot he had 2 loan spells with us.

When he was at Pools and blazing gilt-edged chances into Morrisons car park I bet you were really calling for Pools to sign him on. Not.

at least he had the strenth to kick it into morrisons car park. some that followed him had shots of the power of an under 16 kid.

I can't remember if I did or not, but I reckon I would have, because I could see the potential and there was more to his game than just scoring goals. I said in the earlier post about him not been able to hit a cows arse with a banjo, think he got 6 goals in 40 games, but he held the ball up well and was a bit like a poor mans Richie Barker, not prolific but acted as a battering ram to bring other players into play. All he needed was to work on his finishing, which he did later on for other clubs. I would've been as critical as anyone else at the time of his woeful finishing but looking back its worth remembering that his two spells at Pools where in sides that got relegated from league 1 and finished 3rd off bottom in the great escape season under Moore.

I must admit I thought he was rubbish at Pools and Doncaster and Carlisle but Lee Johnson is certainly getting the best out of him at Sunderland which says a lot for his coaching . I think the Makems have finally got the right manager to take them up.

I thought he was shite at Doncaster too, probably because he hasn’t played for them like.
