I heard we tried to sign Oates in the 80s, but he wanted higher wages and stated "I can't go for that". Read it on Twitter so it must be true.

Oates is turning in to a cereal goal scorer. My main worry is that he’ll think he’s made it now. We need to keep his feet firmly on the ground and remind him that it isn’t too difficult to prove some of the people on this board wrong.

Double Figures makes an appearance , take it we must've won ?

All players and people can get better, in terms of a footballer that could be as a result of better coaching , shame its taken this long for Oates to find his shooting boots, but hey lets hope it continues, better late than never, and yes the next coaching step should be to make sure his recent exploits don't go to his head, and that he learns to master the art of scoring the simple goals , instead of putting the ball into the car park behind the goals.

If Pools continue to improve, its not proving people wrong , its actually proving those people right, keeping the same team, system, playing 2 up front etc , but I guess you wouldn't grasp that.

We are playing in non league football, bloomfield has scored once all season and Oates twice. To put things into prospective we signed Armstrong who actually did well before in this league he scored 4 in just 2 home games.

Let's see what these forwards can do at Notts County away, Halifax away, Sutton away, before we start thinking they can now handle this league. Fans were raving about ofusu in pre season, I will be surprised if any of our forwards are even here next season let alone scoring regularly.

Bloomfield scored in the loss at Boreham Wood and in the Ilkeston FA cup tie, so he's on 3. He's only started 6 NL games and in one of those he was injured in the first minute and went straight off. Oates has only started 7 NL games out of the 15 played. They're not doing as shabbily in the goalscoring stakes as people seem to think.

Armstrong has got 4 in 4 and of course you'd have your money on him to finish to scorer if he stays fit, but if the other 2 (and Holohan and Johnson) keep chipping in scoring goals won't be Pools biggest problem.

Besides, they bring different things to the team. Oates was most people's man of the match yesterday and is the only forward on the books who can do defenders for pace. Now that Parkhouse has gone back to Sheffield we'll see a much more settled selection policy up front. We could do with Molyneux staying fit and playing somewhere near his best - he's only started 7 games out of the 15 to go with 6 starts in the whole of last season. Pools need a lot more from him this.

Molyneux has been a major let down since signing, he obviously has the class but doesn't look the same lad from last season, if only we could have him back at his best. Hope im proved wrong I just don't see us having enough fire power to cope with the top teams especially away from home.

Aww Horden you missed me. You’re lush sometimes. I’ve been busy trying out all my pools gear I got for Christmas. Oates is one of my favourite players he works very hard and deserves everything he gets. All players need a run in the team and confidence plays a part. Molyneux has flattered to deceive. He needs to work harder and make his final pass more often, but so do several others. He’ll get another opportunity and needs to take it. He’s got good skill as does Ofosu. I think Holohan needs geeing up as well. He’s very slow in possession sometimes. Other than that I’m feeling good as I’m always happy with absolutely everything due to my lack of ambition. Bloomfield took his goal really well. I missed the first goal as the stream wasn’t on.

Molyneux probably needs to be cut some slack in view of the fact he's had the virus.

Oates originally signed for Pools as a striker, but until the last two games has hardly been used in that role by previous managers; he's tended to be used as a wide target man for the long ball. Ok, his strike rate hasn't been brilliant for us, but perhaps the manager thinks that Oates' best position may be in a front two & it's paying dividends.

I can't imagine too many defences in this league fancy Oates or Bloomfield running at them, & with Armstrong looking sharp in the box perhaps it's starting to gel. Plus Grey is waiting in the wings, & I think Ofosu might still have an important part to play.

Glad to hear it  Agree with most of your reply , I think we all know Oates works hard and is probably a good trainer and a lad , if he walked through the front door with your daughter , it wouldn't be much of a concern. Its this that probably has prolonged his career, with pace and a good work ethic, some club will always take a chance on him, its just a shame he is so poor in front of goal. He has scored in back to back games in the past and then went another 10 or 15 before scoring. Here's hoping this time its different.

We’re having a genuine Christmas bromance Horden. Pools Actually. Hopefully Oates will pick up some tips from Armstrong who is a handful and a fox in the box. If the refs can keep sending their players off that would be handy too.

agree. think we downplay some of our lads sometimes and think our opponents hold the best cards. if oates continues his improvement with bloofield and ofuso showing some form then we look quite potent. thing the vast majority of clubs in this league would also love armstrong in theur squad.

Goes back further than that for me Double Figures. As soon as I read your first ever post, it was love at first sight for me
