The Woking Manager has been very complimentary pre match, for example:-

Up north where I come from, it’s Hartlepool against little old Woking,” he said. “That’s what they think like up there because that’s how northerners think. Hartlepool is a massive club who should never be in the Conference.
Also..
It’s Sunderland, Newcastle, in that order by the way, Middlesbrough then Hartlepool in terms of the North East clubs, that’s how big they are up there.”
Adding..
I remember playing for Darlington and we knew Hartlepool were always the bigger club,” he added. “To the people of the north east, it’s a shock that Hartlepool are where they are.”
They’ve got a young kid up top, 17,” added the Woking manager. “He’s blinking good for 17 he is, I hope he doesn’t play [on Saturday]. They’re a good side and deserved to win the game on Tuesday so I’m expecting another tough game.”

When Dowson played for us it was when we were in division three and you were in division two, 92/93 season.

In the last thirty years Pools have finished higher than Darlo on most occasions in the pyramid so it's no wonder people see us as the bigger club.
Yes I know all about the trophy count.

I am pleased that the clubs who were eligible to vote supported us in our hour of need. it showed how popular we were in those days.

His mind games must have convinced our bunch of losers that they're actually decent footballers.

To be honest, when I heard it, I thought he was using a bit of Kidology. Grey was up against good players today, not Kings Lynn quality. I would still have started with him though.

Disclaimer - I know Kings Lynn got a draw at Torquay today. Crazy League

Thing is if he came up here he wouldn't be able to attract the loans that you can in and around the capital, noticed Woking had an ex Premier league winger playing and a couple on loan from Charlton amongst their ranks.
Any decent players we manage to attract want to be away after a season here unfortunately.

Even our current manager doesn't want to move to the NE. I doubt Dowson would want to come back here, many who leave the NE don't. If they do return, its generally only to rip us off for one last pay day. Lots of good young NE players playing for clubs in the FL, who maybe should've been signed by Pools in the last 4 or 5 years, we will no doubt see them at Pools, aged 34 , with their best days behind them.

A lot of this though, must be down to the wages we are paying or rather not , as well.

Like the 34 year old who scored against us yesterday.

Think Jarvis left the NE with his family when he was just an infant

It would be nice for him to be at a big club in the North East rather than be remembered for playing for little darLOW

You make it sound like we don’t get loans. There’s not many years we don’t get them from the ‘big three’ trouble is they are generally young and not up to ‘men’s football’
There again at present we have four on loan one from each of Newcastle, Blackburn, Derby and Salford.
