A piece about Pools in his blog today. About the time pools played in Romania.

Just finished reading his autobiography UNCONSIDERED TRIFLES, it's a great read and in time I think will be looked upon as a classic , a journalistic version of Harry Walter Mitty Shithead's book on NE football, the FAR CORNER.

Amos was always worth a read in the Northern Echo. Durham through and through. I don't read a lot of autobiographies but I might have a look out for his.

I am currently reading Harry Pearsons The Farther Corner on arecommendation of a friend. I can recommended it. Observational and humorous view of NE football in the lower leagues.

The Northern Echo died as a paper for me when Amos left. They shit on him in the end it seems, addresses it in the book and he's clearly bitter about how it all ended. To me it reads like someone had it in for him.

Totally agree Mr H - always surprises me how supportive Mike Amos is about George Reynolds - but respect for sticking with 'speak as you find' and respect to him for that. But a tremendously interesting and easy read - just like all of the books by Harry Walter Mitty Shithead.

And here is one for the older Poolies - hands up if you were taught by Mike's brother, Dave!

West Hartlepool Grammar then Brinkburn.

I am old enough to remember ink wells and class canings, but too young to have experienced seeing Hartleblue buying a round.

He is delighted with the lockdown as it gives him a further reason not to buy a round  bbolt

I thought Dave Amos was from further afield, but I can now vaguely recall a resemblance with Mike. Perhaps I'm getting him mixed up with the little scouse English teacher, whose name I will probably recall in 5 hours time

Mike and Dave were brothers - I think that you are thinking about Dave Kent? Another member of the corduroy clan............

I really wish I gone to that Boldon game but i couldn't be bothered. I don't really see the point in going to games if the FA can void them at the drop of a hat.

The current situation with grassroots and non league football is a clusterfuck. The FA ought to be ashamed of themselves. The Durham FA can fuck off too for their actions a few months ago, making clubs close the clubhouses all while pubs are loaded, and slashing the capacity down to a measly 150 all while places in Manchester and Liverpool were having up to 600. The DCMS are also another guilty party.

A generation of young players will be lost unless the FA pull their fingers out their backsides. Countless step 7 grassroots clubs pulling out leagues, an absolute shambles.

To add further confusion Wearside League teams can play friendlies with fans, and some have Durham Trophy fixtures this very week that they have to play!

As for crossing tier borders, allegedly that isn't even allowed for players. Which makes some clubs like Horden CW unable to play as each player lives in a different council area.

Yet players above grassroots can have players in different areas, but they can't have fans if they're in tier 3.
