I assume we are classed as an elite club, though that's a bit of an euphenism

Watched Bala Town v Aberystwyth on s4c yesterday channel 166 on virgin.
Excellent game with a token crowd in ground very socially distanced. There was a family watching from the trees that is behind one goal. Sheep
Decent standard not much difference from NL.
Alba and bbc Scotland also televise for free.
Sod Bt and Sky.

no, but there are plenty next to public spaces where you can see over the wall. pity bradford p.a. are still not in it. a couple of bricks to stand on and even smaller lads could see it.

I agree with the last bit. When one subscribes to BT and Sky you are paying to stop others watching!

Sorry Mr. Stanley but there's really no evidence for that. Most of are old enough to remember what a rarity live football on TV was before Sky came along. If Sky and BT disappeared tomorrow, do you seriously think that the BBC would clear their schedules for live football almost every night of the week, or set up a new channel to cover it - all out of the licence fee? ITV might but they'd want to charge viewers to watch just like the satellite companies.

Back in the day there were a very limited number of channels. Now we have BBC3, ITV3 etc and the Beeb have been keen to show some matches recently. When football was a winter sport and cricket was a summer sport, I fondly remember watching five day matches of Test Match cricket, listening to Jim Laker commentating, on the Beeb, all for nothing.

BTW the licence fee happens to be used to fund the BBC but in law, it is a licence to receive a TV signal. Even if you cannot receive the BBC, you still need a licence to receive other broadcasters. Also if you have a monochrome TV with a recording device, you need a colour licence as you are receiving a colour signal into your recording device. You are not paying for a TV licence to watch the BBC.

The BBC were happy to show a few Premier League games during the spring lockdown because they got them for nothing. It would be a different matter if they had to pay. Sky show hundreds of games every season. If they didn't the big clubs (the only ones the Beeb are really interested in) would find it more profitable to set up their own pay TV channels, as they're already starting to do.

As for cricket, back in the day home Test matches were cheap to produce daytime programming for the BBC. They has only once ever broadcast an Ashes series from Australia and that was after they lost the right to show home Tests. Their radio coverage of Test cricket is still excellent.

Back on topic, Darlo and South Shields got through to the 1st Round proper last night, York and Spennymoor went out. Given that no fans can go, a Pools v Darlo tie looks nailed on.
