Can any bunkerites help me please? Gloucester City are top of the National League NORTH? Anybody been to Gloucester? No I thought not. Anyway, if you are heading down the M5 from Birmingham to say Torquay, Exeter, Plymouth, you pass motorway turn offs to Gloucester. Its various grouped as being in the "South West" although us down here know the "South West as being Cornwall and Devon. So what are they doing in National League North? And why is Neil Warnock never mentioned as once playing for Pools? And how the fuck did Maidenhead United miss those first half chances today? Pleased they did mind you. Its not only this virus that's crazy.

To answer question one, out of the 43 teams at that level they’re in the most northern 21, so they have to go in the Northern section, whether they’re ‘northern’ or not. Same reason Kings Lynn were too. If I remember rightly they were actually in the south last season but got shifted to the north this season.

Sorry Freaky Teeth and Cow Corner I feel chastised. Gloucester (never been there although my Aunty Betty from Houghton-Le-Spring lived in Worcester. I expect Gloucester is a nice place but north? I don't think so.

I stayed in Gloucester for the Cardiff final as it was the nearest/most convenient place on a train line we could get to the Millennium that could take a big group of family in cheap accommodation.

So it should be in the Welsh league basically.

Seemed like a nice enough place. Had docks which thew me as it is well inland.

If you've been to Gloucester in a shower of rain, the good doctor is unlikely to suggest you make a return visit - unless it's to see the dock complex, which is an interesting industrial heritage attraction.

been there and through it loads of times. they are in the north section due to being the most northern of the midlands and southern sides about. bit like brackley who have been there for years. seems there are more southern based sides than proper northern ones nowadays. unlike the days gone bye when i think port vale played in the 3rd div. south once due to the number of northern clubs about at the time.

Lived in Swindon for 13 years, so regularly went to Gloucester, usually to change trains when following Pools. I was back in the NE by this time, but we also stayed in Gloucester before the play off final. Gloucester like any place has some nice spots, but generally its a rough old town, totally different to Cheltenham 5 miles away.

The South West is generally the area from Swindon westwards, Gloucester southwards to Bristol and right down to Devon and Cornwall.

As for Gloucester being in the NLN, its always been the case that you have what we would call southern clubs in the NLN, thats why many people in the non league game in the North East never liked the pyramid system. In the past you have had Kings Lynn, Worcester, Brackley and Wisbech in the NLN, imagine travelling to any of them from say Blyth on a Tuesday evening. With promotion and relegation you are always going to get an uneven number of North and South clubs, so to balance it up, what we would know as a Southern club has to join the NLN.

Remember being in the rugby union club and these big jaffas walked in bright red faces and cherry red hooped shirts. Drank scrumpy cider by the gallon. Blood pressure 200 psi.
Don't let Hancock know its in the NLN or he will lock it down.

I've come across them a few times on my travels. as you say a boisterous lot, totally different from the snobby Bath! RFC down the road , Gloucester seem to have more working class support , decent crowds they used to get 7 or 8000, second only to Leicester in the crowd stakes.
